  1. D-train, Don't go there! Some of these mothers are/were very creative with names. I blame some of it on the pain killers at birthings. TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. I wear my Fez with pride. www.theancientelder.net
  2. The year of the Alternates: In 1977 HWT Sam Lahanis of Evansville Bosse was an alternate. When Richard Spurgeon of Southport was forced to withdraw because of injuries Lahanis replaced him. At state he pinned Don Shook of Noblesville in the first round, lost to Bill Schultz (state champ) of Bellmont in the semi-finals by fall, and pinned Al Lambe of Bloomington South in the consolations. 177 Lbs. John Begley of Warren Central is the highest placing alternate ever in the state tournament. He placed second to Bob Krause of Bloomington North. When Tony Stadler of Pendleton Heights withdrew from the tournament he was the replacement. He decisioned Hiawatha Jenkins of South Bend Adams (11-5) in the first round, decisioned Chris Mahlan (state champ in 78 and 79) by a 5-4 count in the semi finals, and lost in the finals by an 8-3 count. 3. IHSAA Trivia #80 Good guess! Mark placed 4th in 1982 at 132lbs, was an alternate (did not place) in ?83 at 132, and was 2nd in ?84 at 132. Good guess but wrong wrestler, wrong year and he did not place when he was the alternate. See the thread on the other board for the ?clues? or ?hints? that you are looking for. 4. Joe, You have to put the hat back on! I am 68 and I have less of a "shiner". Nice video. Wrestling appreciates the plug. TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. I wear my Fez with pride. www.theancientelder.net

  6. IHSAA Trivia #80 Name the alternate (from the regional/semi-state series) that has placed highest in the state tournament. Clue #1: He wrestled ?under the lights? Clue #2: This could be called ?the Tournament of the alternates?. (There were two alternates that placed in this tournament.) 7. Dingo Brigade makes the best argument so far !!! TAE TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. I wear my Fez with pride. www.theancientelder.net
  8. DuneFan, e-mail me at theancientelder@comcast.net I have questions. Thanks TAE
  9. coolhankluke, Do your homework! Look at the number of team state championships that Bloomingtln/Bloomington South has compared to MD. And for an individual year, 1949, B/BS 7 state champions in 12 classes vs ?. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! TAE
  10. clive and AJ, I have been around wrestling 55 years. I know, you will say he doesn't look that old. And in my mind nothing will beat the state finals at "the pit" at Southport HS. Another one was the last finals at MSA when the crowd was so large that they raised the curtains to the upper seats. 1999 attendance 36,527. Delta - Cathedral dual matches in th '80s. If my memory serves me correctly at one match the Cathedral coach came out wearing a tuxedo and the Delta coach came out wearing a royal purple robe. TAE
  11. AJ, I will be OK as long as DikBill is not a moderator on this board. TAE
  12. In 1953 at 127 lbs James Burres of Bloomington won the state in his first year of wrestling. TAE
  13. grecoref, Saw you at the Capital City Classic. Didn't get a chance to talk. You are looking more and more like JS every day. TAE
