I wouldn't count Darden Schurg out of placing at state. His only loss is to Frane from Dekalb. That was his first high school match at Warsaw. Frane took him down early , then hung on for a 3-1 win. Schurg almost had a takedown as time ran out. I know he will probably have to wrestle a 2nd or third place finisher his first match at state, depending on the semi-state draw, because he will have to face Brooks at Merrillville, and I can't see anyone beating Brooks this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Micic win at 106, Steveson from Merr at 160, and I can't see Knura beating Kral or Robinson, or Gallegos. He hasn't wrestled the competition that either of the above have. All of the good 220's will be at the Merrillville semi-state.

Coach Vlink was just looking out for his wrestler. He thought Schurg was getting choked. From his view it looked like it. From where I was setting I could see his reason for concern.

I would like to comment on the officiating of the Duneland meet. I thought it was one of the best officiated meets that I had ever attended

If CP and Merrillville meet again it will cerrtanly be closer, but CP could still make some moves that would enhance their chances. If I was CP's coach I would put Blue in at 45, Tsirtsis at 52, Jake Fuqua at 60 and Schurg at 70.

The match between LaFever and Kirk Johnason for 3rd place was 7-1 in favor of LaFever. Our 152lber took Kirk Johnson into overtime and lost 3-2. Our kid got hammered by Montrail Johnson 14-2 for 5th place. My pick for state at 160 is definately Steveson from Merrillville.

I saw the Kral-Kinney match and there is no way Kinney should have gotten any points. It was just a roll thru with Kral ending up on top and getting back points. Kral was not on his back more than a micro-second.

I was looking forward to the Forte- Halsted match,as Halsted is looking awsome this year, but his dad showed me a picture of his knee and it was swelled up the size of a 16 in softball and is being taken to the Doctor Monday. Hopefully he will be back for the Merrillville match. I think it will be hard to beat them if hedoesn't wrestle.

Could be 4 Schurg's. I don't know the name of the one that is a sophomore, that hasn't cracked the starting lineup, but if he does, and the one that is in eighth grade makes it that would be 4. Dusty and Darden are state material.
