  1. I think every one of us on this board has a different idea of what BEST PROGRAM means. Personally, I would rather see Bellmont have just two guys at state and still finish as Runners-Up at Team State (2006) than win 3 or 4 individual State Titles on one night. I wasn't very old when Bellmont last won state, but I can remember what it meant to everybody in Decatur then, and what it still means now. It is impossible to guage the best program (really, the 2nd best program) These rankings gave no points for State Qualifiers (only placers), which I believe is a very important part of a program
  2. I have seen #1 Mishawaka #3 Merrillville #6 Yorktown #10 Penn #15 New Palestine #18 Bellmont #20 Lawrence North and will see #2 Perry Meridian and #9 Bloomington South this weekend at the Bellmont Super Duals. I had hoped to go to the Traicoff Invite this year to see some of those teams, but having a newborn at home changes some of your priorities. In my opinion, the favorites to reach Team State would be: #3 Merrillville #1 Mishawaka #6 Yorktown Lafayette Jefferson #17 Cathedral #2 Perry Meridian #15 New Palestine #4 Evansville Mater Dei Who finishes Top 4 really depends on the draw, which takes place on the 21st. I think that if I had to choose, I would take my Top 4, but I believe Yorktown can definitely beat one of those teams....
  3. No problem. Too often on message boards we have a tendency to misinterpret how people really feel. It's hard to gauge if people are angry or just wanting clarification, being serious or sarcastic. The rankings would not be any fun if there were no discussion after they were posted. Please keep the questions coming, but do expect an answer from me.
  4. Because the rankings aren't based off of what happened in the middle of December. The teams are ranked based on how good they are currently. It is absolutely, completely OBVIOUS that Yorktown is at the very least one of the Top 10 teams in the state of Indiana. With a solid victory over Castle, who was previously in the Top 5, Yorktown has shown me that they are one of the top 6 teams in the state. Clay on the other hand has not even wrestled another team in the Top 20 other than Merrillville, to whom they lost. If you take Clay's current Varsity lineup and put it up against Yorktown's current lineup, it is an easy victory for Yorktown, and that is all there is to it.
  5. To be honest, I thought a Top 20 Team in the state should have won the Rochester Invite by a lot larger margin than SB Clay did earlier this week.
  6. I guess my bookkeeping of first initial and last name is going to have to change then?
  7. Y2, here are a couple of matches that I've seen over the last few weeks: 103-Will Nelson-WN d. Ben Fiechter SW 6-2 119- Eckert (HN) still with two losses (Evans-Southwood, Butts-LC) 135-Darin Fiechter (SW) wrestled 135 all day, not sure where he has been the rest of the year, but I see you have him ranked at 130. Zink also beat Fiechter. 152: Jon Mahlan from Bellmont has beaten your #7 Smith, lost to your 145 #1 Sparks, beaten your #4 145 Schendel, lost to #5 Smith, lost to #6 160 in the New Castle SS, lost to #2 LaRowe twice, #3 Timmerman, and #8 in the NC SS Taylor of LC. I know that is a lot of losses, but you don't have anybody at 8th, and he has beaten Grayson Smith, so I figured he probably deserves consideration there.
  8. We learned a lot about several teams over the break. Here is the newest set of rankings. 1. Mishawaka (13-0) 2. Perry Meridian (17-0) 3. Merillville (13-0) 4. Evansville Mater Dei (12-0) 5. Crown Point (6-1) 6. Yorktown (22-1) 7. Castle (10-1) 8. Portage (13-5) 9. Bloomington South (15-4) 10. Penn (7-1) 11. Franklin (13-3) 12. Evansville Reitz (11-0) 13. Jeffersonville (18-3) 14. Carmel (6-3) 15. New Palestine (22-5) 16. Roncalli (4-3) 17. Cathedral (5-2) 18. Bellmont (16-2) 19. South Bend Clay (21-1) 20. Lawrence North (6-4)
  9. I don't think beachbum was trying to put LN down, but he was simply stating a fact. A lot of people were disappointed when LN dropped out of the Bellmont Super Dual after those two huge years that they had. No one ever said they had a weak team, but I think the case could also be made that they weren't a TOP team. I'm assuming that was the point beachbum was trying to make.
  10. pin2win1, The first tiebreaker in dual meets is now the number of unsportsmanlike conducts (or team points taken away). This rule was put into effect in 2001. I think Mishawaka over Bellmont is definitely a good argument, but I would at least like to offer into evidence the fact that Bellmont has wrestled Mishawaka in January every year since 2001, and Bellmont went 5-4 against the Cavemen. I don't think you can just dismiss Bellmont out of the discussion.
  11. I would like to hear some cold, hard evidence to support this fact. Bellmont has had to beat plenty of quality teams to get to the state finals in the past. Teams like Yorktown, Snider, and especially Columbia City have all made team state under different formats, with Columbia City representing themselves very well over a period of several years. 2000: If playing by today's rules, Bellmont beats Mishawaka, the state runner-up to EMD. 2001: Bellmont loses to LN 34-28, I believe they had beaten them earlier in the year at the Bellmont Super Dual 2002: Lost to Champion EMD 44-15 in the semifinals, and arguably the 2nd best team in the state. 2003: Lost to EMD in the semifinals. 2004: Lost to Columbia City in opening round after beating them earlier in the year. Columbia City is better than Perry Meridian that day, except for one bonehead move by Deutsch, which cost CC their runners-up rings. 2005: Lost 27-24 to Columbia City. 2006: Bellmont proves all of their critics wrong and beats a supposedly superior Merrillville team 28-25 and goes on to advance to the State Finals, falling to EMD 39-15. 2007: Bellmont once again proves its critics wrong and beats a "better" Perry Meridian team, advancing to the state semifinals and losing to Mishawaka. 2008: Bellmont wins 8 out of 13 matches wrestled against Merrillville, but falls 29-27 as Bellmont forfeits 103 all year long and loses their State-Ranked heavyweight to a skin disease a week before the state finals. 2009: Bellmont falls in a close match to Perry Meridian 31-27. I do not know one true wrestling fan that would ever say Bellmont was the weakest of 8 teams at a single team state in this decade.
  12. Brent Faurote-State Champ 1982 Head Coach of the 1994 State Champion Bellmont Braves Head Coach of 6 Individual State Champions -Jason Baker -JT Hays -Tim Myers -John Sheets -Matt Irwin -Billy Baker
  13. How long has the current Head Coach at Portage been at that position? Didn't they just switch head coaches a few years back.
  14. Wow, great idea. My first state finals was in 2000 and i have been to every one since, so it was pretty cool to think about the last 10 years.
  15. BJ Faurote has............... Matt Irwin, John Sheets, TJ Hays, Tim Myers, Jason Baker, and Billy Baker at Bellmont.
  16. previously mentioned in another thread
  17. lol, after all, you are the insider...... we should have known.
  18. Ya, I guess they aren't. I could have sworn that they were there last year, and every year that I've been going since.........1999 or so. That's too bad, I was really looking forward to seeing how they were going to finish.
  19. Feel free to add anyone else that may have a chance to be ranked with whatever information you have and I will update the list.

  21. Once again, I forgot that you knew everything about this Regional. Apparently Huntington North doesn't have a chance against your so called favorites, Marion and McCutcheon, who I would say are a long ways away from being "locks" to win sectionals. And if you don't think that Huntington North can beat each and every team from the Twin Lakes Sectional, you're in for a surprise.
