  1. They did in the 60s and 70s. That's what I'm looking for!
  2. If anyone has old pictures of the Ball State Wrestling team, I could really use them. My email is eryan@delcomschools.org. Action shots would be super, but any will do. Thanks!
  3. Hopefully the AD just has a problem with the returning alum or the coach. This goes on EVERYWHERE!!! Why it's even a rule is pretty ridiculous.
  4. At Grissom (Penn), 6th graders were not allowed on the wrestling team. 7th and 8th only. I was in 7th grade, and first day of practice went by, and I didn't go. Wrestling, who does that!? The next day in gym, Dave Manspeaker came up to me (he knew from class and from football), mad as all get out, "RYAN! Why weren't you at wrestling practice yesterday?" Flustered, and a little scared for my life, I responded, "Uh, uh, I dunno. I forgot my clothes." Coach Manspeaker, "Well, be there tonight!" I never missed another practice at Grissom, and owe Manny my life.
  5. Ain't that the truth... :-\
  6. Well, I'm the boys and girls distance coach at the middle school, but yes, there is future state potential. I "graduated" (AKA they're freshmen now) 4 boys last year that ran the mile in under 5:15. Yes... 4 14-year-olds, 5:15. We'll be pretty good again this year, I have a girl that won county in the mile last year as a 6th grader. Track is so much fun after coaching a wrestling season. So much less intense... I keep some of my hair.
  7. and KoKo... congrats on going into the Hall of Fame this weekend! :
  8. As of right now, yes, I do currently live on the track... because I'm a track coach! I do not wish to disclose my home address... it's in an evil, green town...
  9. Ummm... Russell, Tsirtsis, and Tanelli all out on day one. "What is going on here!?!?" ~Mr. Belding
  10. That would be great if he did go to Minn. I (as I think everyone) was looking forward to seeing him in college after seeing him wrestle in the Olympics. But why would he leave the training center?
  11. Wow. If that's the case (mindset), then that's a shame. Especially with what they have coming in for next year. And I hope it's not an administration thing either... like if Reyes saw it coming that they were going to be basketball-heavy again. Nothing against their basketball team though... Painter is a Delta Boy!!!!
  12. We didn't do much legs to be honest. Coach Wilk, from what I can gather, wasn't necessarily against it, but I can't imagine he ever had to run legs much.
  13. My best wrestler tried it a little bit this year, was terrible at it, and instead of trying to get better at it, just stopped completely (which is very unlike him). I think if a kid doesn't get it the first time, they are going to go back to moves that are more "solid." That being said, I love legs and love teaching legs.
  14. That's true. I wouldn't say Purdue's line-up its terrible (like Michigan State's), but it's not really Big Ten caliber either. I let Michigan State off the hook... their a basketball school. :
  15. How does a team go from a national championship two years ago to not having anyone in the championship match of the Big Ten finals? Plus, they only got 5 in and I think only three are seeded (I looked really quick, that might not be accurate) for nationals. Any insight?
  16. Russell did OK last year for a true freshman. I wish he would have red shirted and I hope Grajales red shirts, even though he won't if he goes 133. Luke... mark it in pen... National Champion! Todd relies to much on his mixed matial stuff sometimes. I think he could have rose to the top at the national level throughout his career if he'd just go wrestle and stop clubbing people. With three outstanding wrestlers, it's a shame that they didn't have a better dual season. Obviously, every team except Michigan State in the Big Ten is stacked, but still...
  17. I am being a naive, extremely biased fan, or does Michigan have a great shot at having 3 national champions? Kellen Russell- 141... 1 seed Steven Luke- 174... untouchable 1 seed Tyrel Todd- 197... 4 seed (at 21-1 which is interesting in and of itself) Three very tough Big Ten champions... just wondering how you all think they stack up... or at least those of you that watch more than just Reece, Angel, Alex, and Howe.
  18. I think Angel will be fine and take down another one. He looked alright in the Big Eleven championship w/o the harness.
  19. Being a media teacher, I can tell you that there are ways around not having commercials and still being able to advertise. Soccer runs into the same problem, but soccer is on TV all the time. (In Europe moreso than here, but it's on here too.)
  20. Another system tournaments could look into is the way the new BMV branches run. They have a scrolling name system that shows your name and how many people are in front of you. Just an idea...
  21. So true, but let's be realistic... kids are not leaving from one school to another for acedemic reasons in all cases. I can think of one senario in this state that has happened time and time again... School A is an ok wrestling school, and School B is a wrestling powerhouse. School A is nationally recognized for its academics, and School B is a joke when it comes to academics. However, wrestlers leave in masses from School A to School B.
  22. That's good to hear. The facilities were fantastic... 17 surfaces, great concessions, multiple sign-in tables. The preparation was there, and that was evident. In the words of Lou Brown from the movie Major League, "We just need something to bring it all together."
  23. Lots of kids in a small space, and it was still very well ran. Warren Central, take notes.
