Individual state should not be classed, but I do like the idea of team being a class format. A school the size of say Carmel who has roughly 2400 boys in the top four grades definitely has better odds to put 14 solid wrestlers on the mat versus many 1A schools being able to do the same. That being said a small school can produce 2-3 really solid kids that can compete at a high level on an individual basis. Those boys want the opportunity to compete against all comers at least I know mine do!!
This right here is the best argument I've heard in my short time involved with wrestling. We have the best of both worlds and I think we should stop trying to be like every other state and instead be better. Having a classed team state and non classed individual tournament is a no brainer at least as long as the two are separated. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people from other classed states say they envy our single champ per weight class system for various reasons. I don't know about you but the last way to get me to do something is because everyone else is doing it. Let Ohio have 6 195lbs. state champs. Why don't we build on what we are doing here right now and let them want to be like us. Let's not class just because everyone else is doing it, the grass isn't always greener.

Congratulations to Carmel and Lebanon for being co-champs at Connersville, that was a much tougher tournament than I expected with a ton of talented wrestlers. I hope no one is looking past teams like Valporaiso, they're tough. And Carmel only having 12 of 14 weights filled and a backup heavy weight was pretty impressive. Lebanon came to battle and showed that 2A teams can hang with anyone. I'm kind of curious though about co-champs......no criteria or is it more common than I realize to have that? That was a great tournament and I would really like to see it get back to what I heard it used to be.

BB will smash Carmel
Personally, I thought it was a very exciting dual meet especially considering how early in the season it is. I'm not sure if you really thought that or it's just personally what you wanted to happen but it was very competitive in my opinion. I wish I could see a lot more regular season dual meets like that honestly. Both programs are headed in the right direction and I know coach P and McClurg will have the those boys wrestling their best come state tournament time.

Thank you and you are correct. And let's be honest, it's most likely a 24 point swing as those boys are crazy good. But also of note is Carmel had a few guys missing as well and they too were in weights Carmel lost. Not saying that Carmel would've still definitely won but either way it's still a close dual and something to be proud of especially compared to last years outcome. Less than two years ago Dakota smashed Carmel by 40 points which is another testament to how far the program has come in a short time. I'm proud because the Peoria Duals is one very tough day of wrestling and Carmel went and represented Indiana well in a tournament that has an undoubtedly high level of competition. I'm also proud because my son is going through the program at Carmel and has gotten to see the rebuilding from the ground floor and experience true growing pains as a team. The numbers are going through the roof of our club and hopefully it's another good sign of things to come in the future.

Congrats to the Carmel wrestling team for representing Indiana at the very tough Peria Duals in Illinois. Great turnaround from last year to lose all three meets to this year beating a #1 ranked Washington and the always tough Minooka, and wrestling the #1 ranked Dakota to a 37-37 tie only to lose by the 10th criteria tiebreaker! What was that criteria by the way, most attempts to locator the scoreboard? I can't imagine once everyone finally gets in the lineup and the football guys get in shape. Keep up the good work!

I just wanted to say thank you to all of our coaches, parents, volunteers and wrestlers for a job well done with all of the great wrestling at Carmel High School this weekend!
On Saturday we had wrestling mats from wall to wall with multiple tournaments running at the same time with great wrestling taking place at every level. We had the Varsity Triple Dual, freshman invite and and the future of Carmel High School wrestling at the Carmel Middle School city meet with Clay, Creekside, Carmel Middle and St. Maria Goretti getting down with a great middle school triple dual.
Then on Sunday, everybody was right back at it that worked and wrestled saturday working their butts off for the CUSAWC Dan Nelson Folkstyle Open to much success! 300 plus youth wrestlers got started at 10am and finished up by 3pm in time for everyone to get home to watch the Colts beat the Broncos. 25 of our kids wrestled in this event plus one wrestler placed 4th at the tough Philo Electric Invitational. The future of Carmel wrestling is looking bright now that our youth program is getting bigger and better every week. I can’t believe how far the program has come in such a few short years with Coach P and McClurg and the rest of the staff getting it done and getting this sport heading in the right direction in Carmel. Those guys are definitely building an army! If you are looking for a place to train with quality workout partners and kick a$# coaching, this is the place. It won’t be long till we are competing with the big dogs as a state title contender year in and year out.
I couldn’t be more proud to be part of this, keep up the great work coaches, wrestlers, parents and volunteers!
