  1. But it's not fair if my 1A kids have to wrestle 3A kids and it causes us not to go to team state because of a bad draw in sectionals... Not saying that you guys aren't pretty good at predicting future ability it just seems silly that you can argue for classing wrestling because its not fair if a 1A kid has to wrestle a 3A kid in the individual tourney but it is ok if this happens for the team state qualifying score... Maybe you guys just need to design a formula to give 1A kids a handicap in the state tourney too...
  2. This is what hundreds of people said when this "RULE" first came about. They were told "This will help local tourneys." "This will increase participation." "This will help Indiana and USA wrestling grow in the international styles." and that was the end of the story. Either follow the rule or you wouldn't wrestle at state... Then a day before registration closes they tell everyone their "RULE" isn't a "RULE". It's the most hypocritical thing I think I have ever witnessed in my entire life. This didn't just effect a few people... It effected every single kid who wrestles in this state and it's not right. By all means I agree they should let everyone wrestle that wants to wrestle; BUT you can't make an April Fools joke out of a "RULE". Could you imagine the backlash if the government turned around and said healthcare wasn't really mandated this whole time. They just said it was mandatory but in reality you could have just waited until 2 days before the deadline and signed a piece of paper to save you thousands of dollars a year?
  3. I have wondered this for a while now... I was curious as to why class wrestling supports don't have a big problem with this issue...
  4. Degree > Wrestling... Many kids end up going to play college sports and end up hating it and quit. Sports are not always about winning. I'll also go on to say that the more specific your degree is the better off you will be. I have a "Generic" degree and had a hard time finding a position in my field when there are people out there with specific degrees related to that job rather than my degree that was related to a whole bunch of jobs.
  5. Just like we have with our government, they probably realize it's out of their control so they make the best of the worst situation...
  6. Yeah i ventured over to garrett a few times. But, i guess im sadly admiting, I tended to drive to Mishawaka because they had more kids my size. And i guess now i will leave these boards... So much for remaining anonymous
  7. I DO want more people to wrestle. I don't think there is any other sport in the world like wrestling... Well maybe basketball but they wear funny shorts... I'm just saying more average kids wont help make a semi state kid improve. Maybe it would in the long run I guess neither of us really know the answer to that. BTW how do you know who my teammates were?
  8. Sounds like my practice schedule a few years ago. Besides practice partners i dont see how this doesn't happen at a larger school too. They still have freshman and rookies that they have to teach half nelsons to. They still have their varsity kids help the first time varsity kids because they want a successful team. And more than likely the kids who want to be on the elite level and place at state stay after practice. Classing wrestling wont get you any BETTER practice partners. Maybe more but that wont necessarily help a semi state level kid get to semi state because the kids he now has as practice partners are still going to be way below his level.
  9. Fund raising at local events a, to advertise your team and b, raise money to send kids to camps over the summer? Start ISWA wrestling clubs and use fundraising money to car pool kids as a team to these events so parents don't have to pay for it themselves. Im not sure. I'm sure there are lots of ideas out there.
  10. Instead of personally attacking him why don't you take his opinion and use it to tweek and comprimise your class wrestling opinion so EVERYONE could agree upon it?
  11. I will agree with this. But its obvious next year no matter what side of this arguement your on we will not have a classed tourney. Sooo what can we do this summer to increase the amount of kids wrestling, besides argueing about class wrestling? Thats what I would rather be discussing...
  12. Because: 1: Those damn red heads 2: Hillbillys without teeth 3: Inbreeding AND THOSE MY FRIENDS ARE FACTS But really they are not left out. It just shows that those 1A kids are not specializing like big school kids are. It's that simple... If those qualifiers weren't also going to football camps and so on they would have probably placed
  13. I would love to coach absolutely love it. This sport gave more to me than i could ever aknowledge. I have been searching for a room just to help out in and try to give back to the sport what it gave to me. I know the disatvantages, i attended a small school not too many years ago. I faced the disatvantages, but specializing wasn't something i was willing to do which is why i was never a state qualifier. This doesn't discount his logic though. It just goes to show its about commiting to being an elite athlete. Small schools have less of a probability to have these individuals. And even the ones that they have CHOOSE not to specialize. Its not that they have a disadvantage its because of the athletes CHOICE.
  14. Maybe we should start a thread to come up with ideas to increase off season opportunities for 1A schools and try to be productive with changing something thats in our control right here right now rather than argue about just a single option to achomplish this task?
  15. Yes thats a reason for a classed tourney. Their whole belief is that 1A wrestlers have an unfair disadvantage and cant compete with 3A wrestlers.. How would they not matter? I can have 100% slow twitch muscle fibers (Which is essentially impossible, but ideal for long distance running) but if i dont dedicate myself to the event i will not be successful at it even if i have the genes
  16. Strength of schedule? Maybe they lack the experience of wrestling intense tourneys because they are a 1A school and larger schools typically dont waste their time wrestling schools with only a few elite athletes. Hence why Penn sends its JV team to some of their dual meets. Maybe because those 1A kids only spent 70% of their summer on wrestling and 30% on football. Which is their choice. Not that they dont have the coaches or blah blah blah None of these are reasons that would stop a kid from deciding he wants to be like a 3A athlete and only concentrate on wrestling. And being more successful like a big school kid
  17. Because: 1. It now gives a much more unfair advantage to 1A schools compared to the system we already have. With the voucher program kids can go to whatever school they want. If I'm an elite wrestler with this easier tourny to be a state champion why not dominate the 1A kids rather than struggle to just place at the 3A level? 2. The goal of class wrestling is to increase the amount of kids wrestling but seems to have a decent amount of people opposed to it. There are many other ways we can increase the amount of kids wrestling without changing the whole set up of our unique state tourney. 3. They argue about 1A kids not being able to compete with 3A kids. Classing wrestling will not make this fact any better. 1A wrestling will not be as good as 3A wrestling in depth or elite talent simply due to the probability of a school of 300 kids having elite wrestlers compared to a school of 4000 kids. Im sure there are other things but I have a few patients here now so im strapped for time.
  18. Because i shouldn't even be on here while at work let alone looking up data to figure out the numbers. I'm sorry but i'm trying to save up that money so i can afford for my kids to attend those 2 required freestlyle/greco tourneys that we have to travel to indy for so they can wrestle state. Gotta keep the job
  19. I bet its a whole lot closer than you would like to admit to though...
  20. This just proves that its the lack of athletes/ or their willingness to specialize, like big schools, at these small schools... Not the coaching, time frame, or so on... Also the point of a state tourney is to ELIMINATE the MAJORITY and find the best...
  21. But emotions are the best driving force behind getting someone to commit more time to an action correct? No, they just have something in the water... Maybe we should bottle it and send it across the state
  22. But still more smaller school kids would than we have now. More kids being "Sussessful" will make more kids wrestle according to the logic presented in this post. So it would still grow the sport... If our goal isn't to "close the gap" then who cares about the percentages? Its just about getting more kids to wrestle... It also still gives those few 1A kids that specialize in wrestling the chance to compete against the big schools and show to colleges they are better than the kids at the big schools. So now they might get that DI offer instead of it going to the 3A state champion just because he is in the bigger class
  23. I'm sorry i'm at work... Excuse my lack of time and willingness to put in the mental effort right at this moment to make sure my numbers are exactly correct LOL special is an EMOTION. EMOTIONS are the driving force behind peoples actions! And i mean special as in unique, challenging, the best of the best.
