Being an old timer and having followed this state tourney for years ,, a note for you youngsters back when I wrestled and the post I made about Bloomington high school being named the best high school team in the USA by some wrestling publications,, the state of Indiana only places for individuals and you had to win the sectionals,and the regionals to get to the state tourney. Best class the 1971 state champions Bloomington high school , coached by my father Kay Hutsell , Beat Detroit catholic central in front of 3,000 plus fans 52 -21 Detroit Catholic Was ranked number 1 Bloomington number 2 well at the end of that dual Bloomington was number 1 Bloomington went on to win the state championship that year by over thirty points with 3 state champions a runner up a third and a fourth placer , just some information to some of you youngsters that post on this fun site . Bloomington won 5 state championships in a row , untill they took second in 1974 going for their six straight , thanks for this site it's fun for this old timer to keep up on current wrestling in the great state of Indiana -

Having coached in Georgia for 35 years and taught , we had twenty dates usually we had five duals on Friday night and five in Saturday, lots of mat time , too much ? Maybe but we could wrestle lots of junior varsity kids in this ten duals every week end ,, I had a wrestler that was 86-1 with 68 falls his senior year (a national record for falls ) but a wrestler at another school had more the ninety wins in a season ! Too much wrestling ?? Maybe , probably ! But it sure kept me busy -
Just got off the phone with randy actually randy went out to coach Doug blubaughs TOP OF THE WORLD WRESTLING CAMP that is where he would take challenges for takedowns . Those singlets we wore were all navy blue with white lettering my father was a traditionalist we always wore the same style singlets navy and white even though the school colors were purple and white n team at Bloomington wore purple during my fathers coaching era .

Hook and a half I remember us beating mater dei 52-0 and yes the bloomington cradle was used and perfected by my father KAY HUTSELL. My dad is very sick now but still my IDOL His health is declining everyday but I still remember joe grossman and his cigar and the battles waged verses he and my father those days are gone forever SADLY .

Well in 1971 bloomington high school destroyed Detroit catholic central who was ranked number 1 in the nation , bloomington went on to win the state championship by 40 some points with 4 in the finals and 3 individual state champions in addition bloomington went on to win a total of 5 state titles in a row from 1969-1973 .
