  1. Awesome. Did not know that Thanks, you made my day.
  2. It will be interesting to see how he matches up against any of the 4 coming out of the Merrillville SS, chances are he will get to see 1 or more of them. Knura had a great run in 2010 State Tourney, almost taking Lentz to OT, but he still had 10 other losses that year, and as the previous poster pointed out, he hasn't been facing the competition that others have this year or last. Not saying he doesn't have a chance, but I suspect he would have to have improved quite a bit from 2010 to hang with the rest.
  3. Those are some impressive numbers coach P and great addition to the staff It would be great if CIA were available to kids outside of Indy
  4. Defining my criteria of Pound 4 Pound to be how well could the wrestler do at higher weights.... 1. Tsirstis (already beat one of the top @ 160) maybe the favorite all the way up to 170 2. Sliga - would be the favorite at 220 (maybe heavy) Big drop-off ater these 2 but since the 1st post went with 5... 3. Jackson - could place 2nd at 145 (has beaten #2 ranked wrestler this year) 4. Molloy - already beat 138 3rd ranked -- could finish as high as 2nd 5. Mullins - could be top 2 at 160 (more of a reach, but placed higher than Johnson last year at same weight) HM. Micic/Boston; Phillips/Ayersman; Todd; Brooks -- I could see any of these guys placing as high as 3rd at the next weight
  5. Don't both kids workout with CIA? I thought most of Perry's team did?
  6. Robinson looked pretty awesome against Kral and he looked like he gained a lot of confidence, especially in his ability to throw - he is going to be very dangerous throughout the tourney. I don't know if Robinson's coaches (or the Region Wrestling Academy) put that double over-hook offense in as a game plan to beat Kral or if it was just Robinson's reaction to Kral pushing the double unders, but man was it effective - The kid looked good Haven't seen Knura wrestle since he was a sophomore, but he would have to have improved a bunch to beat Robinson...that is if Robinson continues to wrestle like he did Wednesday night.
  7. McKinley is tough as nails and just a beast all around...but I think Molloy will be too crafty and too long for him. I think Molloy wins a dominant decision (as dominant as one can be with that head-lock always looming)...
  8. I did not know that about other sports. Playing devil's advocate, a realistic situation could be that the top 2 1A schools could beat the top 2a school. In that case it would be tempting for the second best 1a school to bump up to dodge a team like Mater Dei...
  9. So if a team bumps up to 3a from 2a and wins -- Does the remaining 2a champion get an asterisks in the record book for being the 2nd best 2a team but the better 2a team bumped up....
  10. Seems simple enough, well maybe for a rocket scientist... Can't say I fully understand the document but I am d*mn glad to know it exists! Thanks to you and all those putting the leg work into it.
  11. There are some excellent words of wisdom on this thread for kids looking to wrestle in college -- Hope they are paying attention
  12. You must not have seen very many of his Folkstyle matches, he's pretty dominant. 3rd as a Freshman and 3rd as a sophomore at 189 is very impressive. At that size the amount of strength you are giving up as 14-15 year old to 18 year olds is pretty huge. Also his only losses during those years were to guys that got either 1st or 2nd at state. Now if he doesn't win this year maybe I'll start agreeing with you...
  13. Based on what has been said in this thread regarding D1 recruiting and how heavily weighted performance in national tournaments is: If a kid is wanting to wrestle D1 then they may be best served to treat the high school season as a tune-up for the national tournaments "season". With that in mind what are some of the best ways for kids to get good quality preparation for these tournaments (or the off season). I know Fargo has a 1 or 2 week camp but that isn't enough for our kids to really compete. I also know of the places like the Region Wrestling Academy - which has had some great success on the National Scene (Micic for example). What else exists?
  14. Wow sounds like IN kids miss a lot of important exposure because of this rule.
  15. You would think it is the same group of kids from his first Cadet Fargo Championship, but history shows the Junior title can be more difficult. Taylor Masa of Mich was a 4x cadet Fargo Champ and did not win as a First year Junior. With Morgan Macintosh graduated (and doing well at Penn State), I think Sliga could beat anyone in the nation, but Junior 195ers are a lot stronger and Fargo can wear on you. I wonder if he will go for both Styles as a first year Junior or just focus on Freestyle.
  16. The IHSAA State tournament does the finals right and it works for that venue/Tournament. Most people get into every match of the Finals because that is the end of the road the climax to the whole season. Tournaments prior to the Finals are just part of the journey, the top 4 move on, so the multi mat finals can work for those tourneys. Also I think the multi-mat finals work for Large Tournaments pulling from a lot of regions like the Midlands, because the support for wrestlers/teams is more diffuse, not as intimate a state final -- or National Finals.
  17. Can't get much more credible information about recruiting than John Smith, thanks for posting, very interesting. Question about these in season national tourney's that you mentioned, like THE IRONMAN, CHEESEHEAD... Can teams or kids from IN wrestle in those tourney's? Are they invite only? I don't recall ever hearing about anyone from IN wrestle in those kind of tournaments. Just wondering if there is an IHSAA rule against it or if IN is just not respected enough to invited. I appreciate any insights to this.
  18. oK so Fargo has that and the stage over our tournament... How badly would it hurt a kid in D1 coaches eyes if he did not have a state title, but won Fargo?
  19. Without question it is best to have both in state and national credentials, I am inquiring more about those that have national credentials but have not won a state title
  20. Yeah multi-time state champ does change things a bit, but at the same time ther have been quite a few people in IN with more than 1 state title but as far as I know, there have only been 2 Super 32 champs, and I believe their have only been 2 kids from IN to ever win a Fargo title as a first year Cadet...Sliga and Micic So Sliga and Micic have potential to be the most accomplished High School wrestlers in the History of IN wrestling.
  21. Interesting points. However Boston and Micic was a pretty tight match and it could be argued that Micic was undersized last year. also I find it interesting that we have a wrestler like Cody Phillips who is something 120 and 2 with his only 2 losses to nationally ranked guys, who he has beat (not sure if he and Todd wrestled more than once) and yet some say he is washed up....
  22. Good point about junior versus cadet. But who would you consider more elite IN State Champ or National Title holders? Ayersman or Brooks.....Cody Phillips or Sliga .....Boston or Micic?
  23. Last I saw they had lights and a stage stage at Fargo. but no where near the crowd intensity of our single class state finals!
  24. 1. Tsirtsis 2. Jackson 3. Sliga 4. Willis 5a. Mullins 5b. Lynde
