  1. I completely agree with this topic. Look at Rockville this year, we have 7 kids total on the team... but among those kids are some of the best wrestlers in our area. The 182 is 26-1, and is as hungry as any kid could be. The 138 is 24-2 as a sophomore and one of his losses came to a state ranked wrestler from new palestine . The 126 is 23-5 and lost most of those matches at the beginning of the year when he was still rusty from setting out a year. our 170 has a very impressive record as well, but i can't remember it off of the top of my head. The kids get better everyday, and the results show that everytime they step on the mat. We come away with multiple invy champs every saturday we wrestle... yet no recognition on a larger scale. While rankings do not matter, it is nice for kids to know they are recognized. it builds their confidence and can give them that extra motivation to work harder and give 6 minutes of hell.
  2. He hasn't lost to lough. I don't think they have wrestled yet. When North Mont and South V were at the warrior invy Thomas wrestled 152. Thomas lost to a fella from sullivan. Thomas is talented but i don't think he should be ranked in semi state. too much competition at 145. In his sectional he has Bolin and Lough, and those two will be in the finals, Barring an upset.
  3. At 182 Jared Paxton of Rockville beat the Bishop Chatard kid that is ranked in front of him in the semi state. just thought that may be some helpful information
  4. Word is Robbie foster is not wrestling this year... :-[. on another note i dont think the weights for some of the Fountain Central kids are right. from what ive heard tucker will be 132 or 138, bolin is goin 45, and mitchell 171. just what ive heard.
  5. Rockville has 7 wrestlers on their football team. A few of the wrestlers on that team are the studs of the football team or the future studs. However, in rockville's case, the head football coach isnt necessarily for wrestling. I think that is rediculous. he doesnt like the thought of his kids cutting weight and the fact that they miss "quality lifting time" to b on the mat. However, during this time on the mat they get intense workouts, get in great physical condition, and become more aggressive... his stance does not make sense to me. if u look back at the glory days of a WRC team by the name of Seeger, most of their football team wrestled because their head coach wanted his football players on the mat. those seeger teams were absolute terrors on the football field and had two state appearances, one of which they won. I coach wrestling at Rockville and i can c the difference the wrestlers make on the football field. wrestling and football fundamentals can go hand in hand at times.
  6. some other under dogs could be jack bolin, eli moore, quentin clough, joey engel, and the mitchell boy, all of whom are from fountain central. these kids are very very talented. these kids had success last year in the tourney so i expect nothing less than another very solid year from this group of guys.
  7. two suprises could be Jake Thurman out of Rockville who had an impressive campaign his freshman year with bout 30 wins and a regional appearance. This kid has wrestled quite a bit since last season and has packed on an unbelievable amount of muscle, yet maintained his weight. look for him to have a shot at makin an appearance at conseco! also Jared Paxton of Rockville. Its his senior year and has spent virtually all spring, summer, and fall on the mat. he had around 35 to 38 wins last year and had a regional appearance. This kid is talented, tough, strong, quick, and a smart wrestler. He'll make a statement at 182 this year.
  8. I'll give you two dark horses that no one is talking about, nor have u heard of em. Jared paxton and Jake Thurman of Rockville, these guys are the definition of dark horses. jared is a senior and has been hittin the mats hard since last season, look for him to make some noise at 182. he is a tough kid who fought through the final round of sectionals and wrestled in regionals with an injured shoulder. jake thurman is a sophomore and had a very strong freshman year with somewhere around 30 wins and a regional appearance. Jake has also hit the mats often since last season and looks to come out and make a little noise at 138. Im not sayin these kids will win state but they could make an appearance at conseco and compete. It will be very interesting to watch these guys this upcoming season.
  9. This weight class change is absolutely rediculous; however, i do agree with the rules changes. The class changes did not solve the bunching of wrestlers at the mid-weight level, and still leaves the 15 to 20 lb gaps in some of the upper weight classes... It also got rid of two of the most competitive weight classes in the state, 135 and 140. Those kids at those weights were warriors! Now they scrap both classes. The way i read the purpose for the changes, was totally went against in this decision. I also feel like it discourages the kids from cutting weight, from the way i look at it now i see a larger gap between classes. Cutting weight is a part of this great sport, face it, heck embrace it! That is part of what seperates the men on the mat, and the boys on the court. The weight class system before had its flaws (as everything in life does), and this one has them too! why couldnt we just be happy with the way it was and wrestle.
  10. I have absolutely no idea on how you could say IU or Purdue would be a terrible choice... They are both in state schools, so he could have his shot to rep Indiana again. They both have outstanding academics, trust me i go to purdue. Purdue has a pretty good coaching staff. I'd say Scott Hinkel has done a pretty good job rebuilding that program. While they aren't a big 10 championship caliber school (yet possibly), all it takes is for a few young kids to come in and set the tone for the classes to come. I've seen it myself with struggling wrestling programs in high school. When kids come in, de-throne the so called "captains and leaders" and make them work harder, by the time those young kids get a few classes under them they have built a strong team. So while they struggle right now, all it takes is a good recruiting class to straighten things out. MAYBE starting with tsirtsis!
  11. I don't understand why we just can't be happy with the weight classes we have. There will be problems and flaws with every system we can create. For those concerned about the whole weight cuttin issue, it is a part of this sport, just as much as a classic double leg. It will always exist, kids will always want to cut weight to be bigger and stronger than the competition. A weight class change won't erase or even slightly diminish the weight cutting business. I say leave the weight classes as they are and go on with it.
  12. 140 - rematch of sectionals Bennett(HSE) vs White(WEST) Bennitt won last time but this time White is to much for him so White is the Champion at 140 but should be a good match!! Dont underestimate Bennitt's first opponent of the day. Rockville's Jake Thurman is a solid wrester when he wrestles like he is capable. He is very hungry for this match and i can see him wrestling at his finest for this one. I'm not saying that Thurman will whoop him at all, but don't overlook this kid, he is a talented strong freshman.
  13. just want to see what everyone thinks about north mont regionals.
  14. I dont no the southmont head coach personally, but I have heard great things about him. I do no an assistant coach there quite well and from what i can tell they work their kids pretty hard. I also believe a coach completely chewing a kid out for losing is a little over the top. I can understand having a few words with him, but keep it reasonable. If the coach is softening up in practice then that can be a bit of a bad thing, but u can't work the kids til they feel like their gonna fall over and die. Also about the kids laughing, its good to get mad when u lose as long as they do it within reason. Big deal if they are laughing five minutes later, they are kids out there havin fun with their friends. I remember laughing occasionaly after a few losses, you can't sit and pout about a loss or get so mad you lose your temper (which i have also done). In my experience, going back on your losses and just beating yourself up about it is not a good thing. Its good to be a lil ticked so you work harder to get better, but you have to shake it off and get the next one.
  15. this is a great post. we have a public school in our conference who has ILLEGALY recruited wrestlers and football players. They do have a great coaching staff, and good talent to work as it is. However, this is sucking the true sportsmanship out of the sport. Its terrible to see a complete disregard for morals and ethics in a high school sport. I was on a state football team that had the luck, hardwork, and determination to make it there without any illegal activity going on. When do these coaches and athletes cross the boundary on these things, and when will the IHSAA quit being so naive to the fact that it is going on? i have a feeling it will only get worse with time. It will suck the competitiveness and spirit out of the great sport we know as wrestling.
  16. my individual predictions for 160 either bryce peyton of covington or andrew mitchell of fountain central, 189 is jared paxton of rockville, at 215 the south mont boy if he is cleared to compete, and at 285 wallace of south vermillion.
  17. well enough alone-chevelle the red-chevelle send the pain below-chevelle get some-chevelle the clencher-chevelle fireman- lil wayne ladies and gentleman-saliva everybody wants some-van halen the crowing-coheed and cambria throw it up-lil john
  18. my 152 pick is Quentin Clough of Fountain Central
  19. I have tucker (fountain central) at 125 coming off of a victory over a state ranked jordan hicks from seeger in the WRC conference tourney. he looked very sharp, look for him to possible beat the kid that knocked him off earlier in the year, this kid is tough. fountain centrals 140 isnt seeded in top 4. from what ive heard the breakdown at 14o is as follows: 1. north mont, 2. crawfordsville, 3. north vermillion, 4. rockville's freshman jake thurman. and i dont c north mont beating south, south has already beat them this year if memory serves me correct.
  20. I would put money on South or Fountain Central. With Tucker at 125, Bolin at 130, and moore at 135, Clough at 152, and Mitchell at 160, Fountain Central looks to be very tough. South is a young, well coached team and will battle for that top spot. Any predictions at 140?
