  1. You still in NC? I just moved back as a Trainer for Naval Special Warfare Candidates. Been trying to find Pickle since I got back. Ran into Motl a few times. Matt Hardman. Wrestled for Rex with Pickle. Assistant coach there now.
  2. Pedro "Rocky" Ledo - Ft. Wayne Dwenger I would have to cast a vote for Go Go too.
  3. I forgot a great match. Just watched it on grainy VHS. Clash of the Titans. 96 State Semi-Finals. James Brimm vs Nathan Pickle. Awesome match.
  4. Looking forward to seeing the Arlington Golden Knights in action. Young team. Great coach. Good attitude. These guys are out there for the right reasons and their coach is out there doing this the right way. They very likely aren't anywhere close to being the best team in Indiana, but they are great kids who will get up and step on the mat everytime, regardless of the score. Golden Knights... see you at the Fieldhouse on Saturday!
  5. Alright. Time to reflect? What is the greatest match you ever witnessed in IHSAA Wrestling? How about the greatest match you ever wrestled in? For greatest match witnessed: 95 IHSAA State Finals between Greg Larsen (Hanover) and Tim Meyers (Bellmont). Beast of a match. Literally blood, sweat and tears everywhere. greatest match I wrestled: 96 Team State (1st round) against Steven Bradley (Beech Grove) . I don't remember the score, I just remember that that was the hardest I've ever wrestled in my life. Ended up losing after hitting an edge of the mat double and didn't get the toes in. Final score was like 3-2 or 4-3.
  6. I don't know, but Jeff's cool with it. He's showing great heart this year. He's definitely in it for the competition this year. Talked to him after watching him storm around the Fieldhouse trying to burn off pre match energy that he didn't get to use on some kid. He got ducked and was extremely unhappy. Watched the other wrestler warm up... get singlet up.. headgear on... and then sat when Jeff checked in. Man was he steamed.
  7. When I was little there was a referee out there who sadly passed away a few years ago. I was on his mat at least a hundred times in my career. When I first saw him (I was 6), I told my dad that Obi Wan Kenobi was at the tournament. I have never been able to see him as anyone but the original Obi Wan from the original Star Wars (IV-VI). Chuck Hershberger. Great guy. Will always be sorely missed.
  8. In my job I get to travel all over Indiana training kids for Naval Special Forces and watching lots of wrestlers every week. I have taken a few of my Navy Special Forces candidates into some of the practices and they are amazed at what wrestlers put themselves through. So far, this season is no exception. Early in the season, but kids throughout the state are getting after each other in matches and practice. Kids wrestling 30 second drills like those thirty seconds are for the state title...then, they get up...switch position... and go again.... How can anyone not love this sport? From what I've seen so far, New Castle Semi-State is gonna be a sight to behold...
  9. The name I always remember was because the announcer at Market Square Arena had so much fun saying all the way to the finals... From Bellmont.... Sam O'Campo....
