  1. I like the idea of freestyle/greco. I think you could do all three. I mean you can change the game rules on Call of Duty, NCAAF, MLB...right.. Freestyle and greco is easy... set em up the same, then remove any of the lower body stuff from that event. Has anyone ever looked at how many move combos are on the newer UFC games...it's nuts...
  2. Even the XBOX itself is a huge money loser. But they are sticking with it. It costs about $522 to build and test a premium XBOX. The avg retail price is $399. Xbox has only 36 of it's over 736 games that have sold and shipped more than 1 million copies. They release games like bowling, tennis, table tennis, fishing, paintball, cricket and so on. Bottom line is that they rely on the huge titles to make up for the losses from most of the hardware and software they release. Companies do this all the time. Walmart does it. They lose money on books all the time. They openly admit that they use stuff like books, $5.00 DVDs...etc to get people into the store to spend more money. They always make up the losses. Almost like covering the spread. Wrestling's huge problem is people saying things can't be done... Does anyone remember way back in 1993 when UFC was a tiny local event. There were the founders of what we know today saying they wanted to challenge boxing and grow the sport. Now they are a billion dollar industry and boxing is dying. Wrestling doesn't need to survive... it needs to thrive. It should bother people that video game companies see fit to release games like leisure suit larry but not wrestling. the only way wrestling gets bigger is when people concerned for it's future do something about it rather than just talk. Wrestling is growing slowly. according to the NWCA website there are well over a quarter of a million wrestlers in HS...add the college teams, Women's teams, Club teams, and USA Kids Wrestling programs and you have a huge group. By comparison the US Navy's Force Strength right now is Just over 330,000. FYI...there are facebook groups and petitions out there to get a Water polo game on PS3 or XBOX...it's already out for Iphone and PC.
  3. Ah...yes... and how many people live vicariously through the characters they create on video games. It works both ways...You can't play NFL football/College football..so you play the video games... You can't be a SEAL or Army SF... so you play Call of Duty... Can't handle MMA... Play UFC.... Can't really play golf....Play Tiger Woods (which I'm buying as soon as the new one with Augusta National is out...) To be perfectly honest... The people who make video games are either losing boatloads of money on games they release or are completely overpricing everything. Call of Duty: Black Ops was 59.99 the first week it was out. The second week it was 54.99... by the time I got it it was 39.99. In a year it will be in the 24.99 pile and 2 years from now it will be 19.99 at walmart or target. There are tons of games out there that are money pits. What makes this so easy is that the program is almost complete. Alter some of the UFC games and change the graphics to fit wrestling... Even better. When they were making the Beijing Olympics game, they initially had wrestling as a sport. They used the same engine needed for the judo section of the game and reworked some of the graphics. These companies release games all the time that they know aren't worth the effort and are going to flop financially. The Olympic Games are always a huge financial flop. And USA Wrestling's technology department is already looking into this.
  4. Talking about the hug and the grins from both wrestlers? Needs to be more of that.
  5. I definitely agree with that. At some point parents have to step up and be parents and pull the plug on the XBOX or PS3 and get the kids outside to play.
  6. Ok. About a year ago I was wandering around a mall wasting time and walked into Gamestop. I ended up buying the UFC 2009 game. I went home...Played it for about a half an hour and realized that that game engine could be used as a platform for a wrestling video game. Think about it. You start in HS like on the Campus Legend mode on the NCAA Football series, get recruited by a college, do a 4 year career in college, work your way into the Olympics or World Championships, retire when you want to or (just like the football games) export your wrestler to the UFC games if you want...(personally...I'd retire). So I emailed USA wrestling to see if anyone had thought of using the programs already out there for this and I got an email back saying that they were looking into it. So...Who out there would play a game like this and should wrestlers around the world start pushing for our own game..? I was also wondering...as a side effect... I have noticed that a large majority of the men and women who come through me to join Naval Special Warfare got interested after playing a lot of Call of Duty (sounds dumb but it's true)... Does anyone think that a truly awesome game on a system like XBOX (or even better XBOX Live) might get more kids into the sport?
  7. 3-1 Campbell... Good match.. tons of shots and reshots.. good scrambles ...great 6 minutes...
  8. Brendan Campbell and I were watching Noah's matches against Cathedral and Connersville. It's unreal what he's become in just over 2 months. And his grades make him even more impressive.
  9. I like the one match under the lights. One concern is seeing kids with 2 or 3 state titles in multiple class states who may not be as good as the kid from here with a few placings. The Indiana tournament is the most brutal out there in terms of placing. Other states are bringing 32 kids to state and wrestling back from the very first round. I think that adds some prestige to any placing at the IHSAA State tournament. There was one thing I really didn't like at the Washington State Championships... Seeing one team with 2 wrestlers in the finals (yeah...some states out there get the JV into the tournament).
  10. Favorite pair ever... Adidas Combat Speed. The old blue ones with the yellow and red stripes. Love those things. Still have them. I think I like them because I toasted some competition during a trip to Poland in them, including their national champ.. I'm superstitious...so I was uh..angry...when I realized I left them in Indiana about halfway through the bus ride to Fargo a few weeks later. Worst pair ever... Those old Nike Greco Supreme shoes... You remember them... Black and white... hot pink inside... huge tongue.... ugly as sin.. hated those things... I did find my pair of Asics Ultra Flex yesterday... The Red and Silver ones from Vision Quest...Might wear 'em to practice this week.
  11. There are loads of technology built into wrestling shoes now. Some shoes have some pretty impressive styling. So my question is... What is your all time favorite pair of wrestling shoes? What pair did you truly loathe?
  12. I agree. Don't get me wrong... Those guys can wrestle... Washington wrestlers are very good. Derek Garcia proved that. However, there is something fundamentally wrong with seeing 5 podiums at one end of the dome.
  13. I forgot a match... Does anyone remember way back when you wrestled sudden death... Just kept wrestling until someone scored? I wrestled in a tournament the year before they changed the rule to limit OT. Ben Davis Freestyle tournament. I wrestled against a kid named Matt Graham. We traded wins for years...since we were 6 years old... At this tournament we wrestled the two 2 minute periods and came out tied. So overtime started. I think on the bout sheet, the final match time was the original 4 minute match and 27 minutes of overtime. Great match though.. 30 minutes of shots...re shots...scrambling... and parents screaming at the ref to just end the match... to just make something up to end it.. because they couldn't pull either one of us off the mat.
  14. Thats why I asked. I have been a part of State both ways. Both ways have pros and cons. But there is nothing like the single mat under the light. The Washington High School State Finals are impressive, but trying to watch 5 Championship matches at the same time will drive you nuts.
  15. Yep... That's the one... I made it to State that year. Sophomore. Knocked off Gary Schmucker first round at semi state and then upset an undefeated Jason Reynolds from Leo for the ticket match. Then I got over powered by Brad Lee (Delta) and Darrell Carr (Warsaw). Once again.. The weight caught up with me. I weighed in at 97 or 98 pounds at semi state. At conference that year I actually was eating Dairy Queen cheeseburgers and a large chocolate shake before weigh in.
  16. After coaching in Washington state for two years, i understand why people like the class wrestling. But i just don't think anything compares to the single mat under the light at market square....or conseco. ...Is it possible for Indiana to make the best of both worlds?
  17. that final score always drove me nuts...even when i was a kid...it was like. ..Hey..wait a tic..what..
  18. I would go with the ticket match to state. I wrestled my rear off.. I don't regret that..i only wish i could have been heavy enough to have cut weight and wear the other guys down.. 106 wrestling 112 & 114 wrestling 119. Weight matters. The only other match i want back is sophomore year. Unranked against the number 1 Quoiyon Brooks. Set him up and caught him in a near perfect head lock. I say near perfect because i didn't listen to Coach Tone and lock it up...he got away and i lost. Lesson.... the coach knows more than you think. Especially if he's been around since before you were born.
  19. New Post? What match or matches would you like to have back? Sounds good.
  20. I remember 1995 when wrestlers in Indiana were wearing Looney Toons socks... Really distracting.. never did understand that one... glad it was a one year thing..
  21. Anyone watched Vision Quest recently? The scene in the diner when he asks his dad if Carla can stay... You can see the microphone in the bottom of the shot... lol.. And was anyone ever really frustrated about the scoring in that movie?
  22. Gonna embarass Coach Hull... Nick Hull vs Mac Taylor 96 State Semis 112 lbs.
  23. That guy is a beast. He's benching somewhere near 300. He actually said 275 was too easy. Pickle and Motl have been re-incarnated as Jeff Moffield. Same mentality.. Watches Rocky movies all the time.
  24. Besides... if the rankings were always dead on perfect and the highest ranked guy always won... what fun would that be?
