  1. I guarantee they can fit more than 4 mats at Banker's life. In Michigan they fit 12 mats at the Palace for all of the rounds before the Finals. The reason they went with a 3 day tournament around 12 years ago was strictly for revenue. By having full wrestle backs and only one match on Thursday, it ensured all of the parents would be buying tickets for Friday as well.
  2. if you're a upper weight wrestler you really should play football as well and football coaches should encourage their linemen to wrestle since it teaches footwork and hand fighting. i was lucky my jv football coach was also the wrestling coach. when I was on varsity the coach did resent the wrestling team's success. he also really hated the fact myself and others took the month of july off from off season workouts to go to J Robinsons 28 day camp. all of this led to me not really caring about football. if my football coach would have been more supportive of wrestling, I'm sure my teammates and myself would have been more motivated playing football.
  3. indeed I am an accountant, obviously Mr. Hungus is not a professional speller
  4. sagging headlock, statistically leads to pins more than a single or double
  5. for the record I will not be competing this weekend. I have to focus all my attention to making sure Mr. Sadilek becomes a freestyle state champ. I just checked with Las Vegas and he is the 5:1 favorite.
  6. Coming from Michigan I find the concept of team state champs being determined by individual tournament to be ridiculous. It does not show who has the best overall team in the state. Richmond had individual state champions this year and they all were quoted as saying that it was awesome to win state but did not compare to the thrill of winning team states. It's a shame that is not the opinion in Indiana.
  7. not an upset but Carrunchia of Garrett over Sadilek of Carroll could have gone either way
  8. also if your goal is to win team state you will schedule more dual meet tournaments. our coach would try to schedule at least 6 or 7 of our weekend tournaments as dual meets. if you have round robin format, you can get each kid 5 matches every weekend. add that to double duals during the week and most kids on our team had nearly 50 matches going into districts. that is how you make kids better wrestlers by having them wrestle that many matches and in turn make the team stronger.
  9. being from Michigan I have always thought Team State shows which team is truly the best. my team Richmond has won 4 Team State titles in the last 4 years. In that same time there was only 3 individual state champions. its all about kids stepping up for the team whether a freshman doesn't get pinned by a returning all-stater or a kid needing to get a pin in the final match. I feel a team can have 3 studs and win the state championship if determined by individuals. there could be 11 other puds on the team and yet that team is considered the best in the state.
  10. are there any teams in the FTW area that start practice after 4? i would like to help out with a team but got work until 430 to 5 each day.
