The football comparison makes no sense.  The wrestlers still wrestle, they just aren't considered when determining the class sizes.

We are waiting until after the season is over to determine classes anway, it wouldn't be that difficult to re class based on sectional entries.

How are the big getting bigger and the rest getting squashed?  

Is anyone saying these teams are permanently excluded?  A good first step in building a program would be to enter enough wrestlers to qualify for team state scoring.

Telling kids that they have no shot at a team state title helps those schools, interesting...

Do teams with 5 wrestlers and 9 forfeits expect a shot at a team state title?

I just see no reason to give someone regional qualifier points when they only get 5th/6th at sectional. That just seems like an inflation of how good a team is.

You would argue all sectionals are equal then?

Again, the committee doesn't answer the questions.

1. I'm pretty sure the teams with 5 or fewer wrestlers are aware they won't qualify. There's no one that says their scores can't be calculated or their success tracked. Why is eliminating teams with 2 wrestlers "all in" but eliminating teams with 5 not?

2. Is this selection process something that is in line with IHSAA principles in the first place?

A team with 10 wrestlers can win a dual match, a team with 4 or 5 cannot. A decision made on principle and not what is in the best interest of the event is pretty weak, honestly.

It would be nice to hear the committee that decides these things give an opinion once in a while. How did the committee decide to eliminate teams with less than 3 entries but keep teams with 4 or 5?

And yet they will "score" teams with 5 or less that even with all state champions would not be in the voting.....

Kind of illogical to be honest.

I couldn't disagree more. Growing the sport isn't about the die hard family, friends & fans. Those people will sit thru fire to watch a good wrestling match! If we hope to grow the sport we need to look at getting the "common" fan into the stands and the young athlete into the wrestling room. As the coaches said 6-8 long Saturday's each season are a much harder sell (for the common fan and young athlete) then those die hards who have been wrestling thier hole lives. Just my opinion.....

These brackets are for New Haven...there's a big super dual at Bellmont this weekend that apparently none of these Penn guys will be attending...meaning they're bringing their B team to face Bellmont, Bloomington South, and a couple others
