  1. And I forgot to add that kids could be jeopardizing their IHSAA Amateurism at this event. By taking a few "top" kids I have helped prevent kids from violating IHSAA rules.
  2. 1. Are the selected wrestlers the top 9th-11th grade wrestlers as determined by IHSAA state placement? Yes, at least that is how I believe it goes 2. Beyond the top 2 wrestlers (assuming that's how team Gold/Blue are chosen) are the other wrestlers free to join another team or do other teams have to wait until the sanctioned teams are filled by going down the pecking order, then choose from the remaining freshman-junior wrestlers to fill their squads? I don't know the process in which other teams are selected. Waiting for the Gold/Blue teams to fill up is tough as there is a short window of time to find wrestlers especially when real national events are about the same time and you flirt with spring breaks and other spring activities.
  3. 1. Will the 2 officially sanctioned teams (Indiana Gold/Blue) be the only Indiana teams allowed? I'm sure there will be Renegade teams 2. Are the Gorillas the only team being barred from participating? Yes 3. How are wrestlers selected for the various teams? Are wrestlers/parents allowed to choose which team they will be a part of, or will the top wrestlers *only* be allowed to participate on the sanctioned teams? They are "selected" based on state performance. However, wrestlers/parents are not allowed to choose what team they are on supposedly. This is a "rule" only for Indiana teams though. It is fine for Ohio and Illinois to spread their talent out to multiple teams.
  4. Word on the street is there may be some WARRIORS in the room tonight....even ones that have attained All-American status!
  5. Where to begin... It seems a "Hall of Fame" coach got his panties in a bunch when the top kids didn't care to be coached by him. He really enjoyed overcharging the kids and providing next to no supervision of the athletes. Then he really enjoyed the hob nobbing like he was something special when he "coached" the kids to a "national" title. When some competition came along that offered the same exact event with potentially better gear(kids love cool gear), a fun time, and for about half the price his gig was up. So the "Hall of Fame" coach got with his buddy who disguised himself as an NWCA representative and made an executive order to dismiss the Gorillas based on some shoddy evidence. It's no surprise this is the same person who has run a once very prestigious event directly into the ground. Note that Indiana is the ONLY state with "rules" on entering teams, no other state has any regulations other than pay and you're in. This is the same event that allows teams to be comprised of wrestlers from different states. They also allow kids to be on two different teams and WRESTLE for two different teams in the event. There are also middle school kids that participate on state teams that do not allow middle school wrestlers to be varsity. Basically, rules for this event are made up on the spot and change every year. I have contacted the NWCA to see why they are sponsoring and event that has little to no organization and makes up rules as they go. Even though USAW has their name on the event it seems as if they have no affiliation with the event or the organizer. Lastly, if you are sending a kid with the IHSWCA teams be aware of very relaxed supervision. Last year a large group of IHSWCA wrestlers were seen at the Gorilla hotel both nights with water guns. The year before a group came over to the Gorilla hotel and walked into a room and stole a bag with singlet, shoes, headgear, and other gear. Luckily our kid got his stuff back and the kids involved with the theft were not punished.
  6. Looks like Isaiah Kemper from Evansville Central also qualified, he's wrestling for McKendree University.
  7. Congratulations to Kory Cavanaugh from Penn for signing with Wabash. He is projected to wrestle 125. Click here to view the signing

  9. Yes, anyone who dislikes them will immediately go to the "constant rule changes" excuse. Greco has had some changes recently that I won't touch since I can't tell you what they are at this point. Try explaining locking hands to a new person in the sport...it's kinda confusing if you have no grasp of the concept. Same with trying to explain proper starting positions. If I am teaching a new kid how to wrestle, I'd much rather teach them freestyle. In freestyle, you get in your stance and wrestle. In folkstyle I need to teach how to put your foot on the line, then proper top and bottom positions...then SUPER reinforce them as they could lose points. Then I have to teach locking hands and other illegal moves. In freestyle you teach about the illegal moves, but in most cases they will just stop the action and you won't score any points.
  10. There are just as many rule changes and rule nuances in folkstyle as there are in freestyle. I'm sure if you brought a Russian over here for NCAA's he'd be just as confused. The "constant rule changes" reason for hating freestyle is a crutch many use because they have no better reason to hate freestyle. The only change in how you score points has been the push-out, other than that scoring takedowns and exposing the back has been a time honored way of scoring points in freestyle.

  12. Carroll has yet to receive an invitation....the Huntertown post office must be busy.
  13. Ersland is just getting started, you can't expect a lot after only three years. Consider the first year he was hired he basically lost a recruiting class, so that year is a wash. The second year he brought in some good kids that are starting to get into the lineup. Next year he'll have even more. I like what they are doing, but you need patience as they redshirted most of their really good class.

Riding the waves of some talented big guys Coach Chris Joll's squad finished 2nd at state. Individually the Trojans qualified six wretlers for the state finals with five of them placing. Andrew Davison became the 5th wrestler in school history to win a state champion joining his father and assistant coach Keith, Joh DeHart, and Jim Popp. Also placing were runner-ups Lucas Davison and Diego Lemley, 4th place finisher Eli Pokorney, and 8th place finisher Jack Tolin. The Tigers had two state champions this year in Brayden Curtis and Brad Laughlin. They also had runner-up Christian Hunt and 8th place finisher Jacob Rhoades. On top of placing 4th at the state finals, Yorktown captured their fourth IHSWCA 2A Team State Duals title in five years. When you see him wrestle, you understand why that rumor has legs. This Bulldog defied odds time after time and after the dust had settled he was on top of the podium. After another lengthy football season Stock stepped it up during the state series. He had to fend off numerous challengers in a LOADED regional in which all four competitors punched tickets to state. 22. Wrestling 45 matches in a season without a defeat is an impressive feat. What about also adding in 38 pins including 27 in the first period? Let’s also add in only three matches going into the third period, with only ONE, yes one, match that went the full six minutes. When you add all that up you get this year’s Mr. Gorilla, Andrew Davison of Chesterton. Davison put together one of the most dominating seasons the state has ever seen this year. The future Michigan Wolverine already had a laundry list of accomplishments highlighted by national titles in folkstyle and Greco-roman before capturing his first state title this year. Davison’s career record was 121-4 with 79 career falls. On top of his accolades on the mat Davison has also been academic all-state based on stellar work in the classroom.
