AD for Student Support & Sports Information 12/15/2013 4:05:00 PM TEAM SCORES | BRACKETS | PHOTO GALLERY (Facebook) INDIANAPOLIS- The #9 UIndy wrestling team posted its best finish in the last decade of the annual Midwest Classic with a tie for second in the team scored event, which ended Sunday in the Greyhounds' Nicoson Hall. UIndy amassed 107.5 team points to tie with #17 McKendree for second place overall, while #4 Newberry took the team title with 127.0 team points. In addition to the team finish, UIndy's Alex Johns was named the Michael O. Horton Most Outstanding Wrestler at the event, becoming the first Greyhound to win the award since Shane Perkey in 2008. The Greyhounds closed out the event with one champion, three runners-up, one third place finish and a seventh place finish. Johns (12-1) took the 125 pound championship for the second year in a row, winning his semifinal match 5-1 over Jose Torres of McKendree before taking the championship with a 5-2 win over Jeff Vesta of Newberry. Josh Kieffer (6-1), Cameryn Brady (14-1) and Jeff Weiss (13-2) each finished in second place in their respective brackets, each going 1-1 on the day en route to their finishes in the 133, 149 and 165 brackets. Justin Kieffer (11-1) went 2-1 on the day, falling in his semifinal match before rebounding with a 3-2 win in the 141 third place match. Taylor Scott (7-4) rounded out the Greyhound placers, taking seventh in the 197 bracket with a 1-1 day.
