PIRATES THIRD AT SECTIONAL: Charlestown placed third at last Saturday?s Jeffersonville Sectional, scoring 181 points. Ethan Bowen was the Pirates? lone sectional champion, as he won the 171-pound division. Earning second-place finishes for Charlestown were Sasha Weddington (140), Cory Suddeth (152), Jacob Hall (160) and Logan McCutchen (215).

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 103 ? Luke Woods, sixth; 125 ? Justin Wolf, fourth; 130 ? Cameron Stuart, third; 135 ? Dakota Bungcayao, third; 145 ? Ryan Miles, third; 189 ? Seth McCutchen, third.

CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OF INDIANA

 

NEEL BECOMES FIRST WARRIOR SECTIONAL CHAMPION: Senior Cory Neel became the first wrestler in Christian Academy history to win a sectional title last weekend at Jeff. Neel defeated Providence junior Brennan Gregory in the 130-pound final by a 7-2 decision. The Warriors posted their highest finish ever in the team standings, placing fifth with 103 points.

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 103 ? Daniel Doty, third; 112 ? Minho Lee, sixth; 119 ? Christian Roberts, fourth; 135 ? Ethan Banet, fourth; 140 ? Nate Dunn, fifth; 152 ? Levi Speth, fourth; 285 ? Caleb Delbridge, fifth.

FLOYD CENTRAL

 

HIGHLANDERS SECOND AT SECTIONAL: Eleven Floyd Central wrestlers qualified for regional as the Highlanders finished second at last Saturday?s Jeff Sectional. Floyd scored 223 points.

 

Two Highlanders won sectional titles in sophomores Terrence Kennedy (103) and George Emily (135). Four Floyd grapplers ended up second in Chris Whitley (112), Zach Thomas (125), Chase Herron (145) and Shane Sneed (171).

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 119 ? Nick Stewart, third; 130 ? Michael Kruer, fifth; 140 ? Gus Schoenbaechler, fourth; 152 ? Eric Foster, fifth; 160 ? Jackson Randall, fifth; 189 ? Lance Youtsey, fourth; 215 ? Nick Ottersbach, third; 285 ? Andrew Sharp, third.

JEFFERSONVILLE

 

RED DEVILS RECORD THREE-PEAT: For the first time in program history, Jeff won its third straight sectional title last Saturday at Johnson Arena, scoring 277 points.

 

The Red Devils collected a school-record nine individual sectional titles. Those champions were Alonzo Shepherd (112), Kevim Castro (125), Tre Harbin (140), Renaldo Weekly (145), Brent Browner (152), Brandon Marlin (160), Elijah Curtley (189), Jimmy Pratt (215) and Ryan DeWitt (285).

 

Teammates Oscar DeLeon (119) and Michael Vasquez (135) each finished second.

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 103 ? Jasi Coureur, fourth; 171 ? Brandon Spangler, fourth.

NEW ALBANY

 

JAMISON WINS TITLE AT SECTIONAL: New Albany sophomore Austin Jamison picked up his first career sectional title last Saturday at Jeff. He defeated DeLeon in the 119 final by a 10-3 decision. Jamison was the only Bulldog to win a sectional championship.

 

Placing second for the Bulldogs were Zach Faith (189) and Jacob Mudd (285). New Albany finished fourth as a team with 160 points.

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 112 ? Bryce Peavler, fourth; 125 ? Antonio Nieto, fifth; 130 ? Hunter Langley, fourth; 145 ? Jacob Jiles, fourth; 152 ? C.J. Reynolds, third; 160 ? Matt O?Connell, third; 171 ? Noah Schindler, third; 215 ? Cheyenne Conn, fourth.

NEW WASHINGTON

 

MUSTANGS SEVENTH AT SECTIONAL: New Washington registered 78 1/2 points to place seventh at last Saturday?s Jeff Sectional.

 

A pair of Mustangs each finished third. They were sophomore Brady Meenach at 125 and senior Lane Massingham at 140.

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 103 ? Brandon Gonzalez, fifth; 130 ? Yancey Crase, sixth; 135 ? Gabriel Nix, sixth; 160 ? Jacob Franklin, fourth; 215 ? Ben Elliot, fifth.

PROVIDENCE

 

GREGORY LONE REGIONAL QUALIFIER: Junior Brennan Gregory was the only Pioneer to earn a regional berth at last Saturday?s Jeff Sectional. Gregory finished second at 130.

 

Providence placed eight as a team with 48 points.

 

OTHER SECTIONAL FINISHERS: 125 ? Ben Hauber, sixth; 140 ? Alec Hendershot, sixth; 145 ? Jordan Kaelin, fifth; 171 ? Dalton Schell, fifth.

 

PIONEERS GO 3-1 AT NEW ALBANY INVITE: Providence went 1-3 at the New Albany Invitational on Jan. 22. The Pioneers defeated Southwestern, but suffered setbacks to the host Bulldogs, Indian Creek and Louisville Manual. Gregory and Kaelin each posted 3-1 records.
