Sopko, Bradley lead Limestone College to a 35-3 victory at Spartanburg Methodist

SPARTANBURG, S.C ? Redshirt-junior Bryce Sopko (Riverview, Mich.) and redshirt-senior Casey Bradley (Muncie, Ind.) score two falls as No. 20 Limestone College (1-2) dismantles Spartanburg Methodist College, Monday, November 22 in Spartanburg, S.C.  The win secures the Saint?s first victory in the dual match season.

 

Following Sopko?s third-place finish at the Pembroke Classic he got the night started with the first fall of the night by pinning Pioneer freshman Reid Welch 1:59 into the first period. Sopko scored two take downs before finally pinning Welch to win the 174-pound weight class and improves to an impressive 6-2 on the season.

 

Bradley secured his victory for the Saints with 40 seconds left in the third period. He posted a takedown in each period, and scored an escape in third period before finally pinning Spartanburg Methodist?s sophomore Donnee Grace in the 184-pound division.

 

Limestone would have three of its wrestlers post major decisions, including an impressive 12-1 victory for redshirt-junior heavyweight Charles Weber (Radford, Va.). Weber would come close to pinning freshman Marcus Ovalle on two separate occasions as he scored near-falls in the second and third periods of the bout. Weber also notched two takedowns and one reversal in the match.

 

Sophomore Kyle Freiberg (Middlefield, Ohio) and redshirt-senior Matt Hall (Hamptonville, N.C.) were the other Saints to post major decisions on the nigh. Hall shut out freshman Dallas Phillips by scoring a takedown in all three periods on the way to an 8-0 major decision in the 141-pound division. Hall also led the Blue and Gold on the night with an impressive four minutes and eighteen seconds of riding time. Freiberg nearly got a fall on the night while earning a near-fall in the third period. He also scored an impressive three takedowns in the first period of the 157-pound clash.

 

Limestone returns to action Saturday, November 27 as they travel to nearby Belmont, N.C. to face Campbell and Seton Hill University, on the campus of Belmont Abbey College. Start time is slated for 4 p.m.
