Jeff Wrestlers grab 7 Individual Titles

JEFFERSONVILLE ? Danny Struck has been involved with the sport of wrestling since his days in high school.

After Saturday, the Jeffersonville High School coach can finally call himself something he never has before ? a conference champion.

The Red Devils collected seven individual championship and racked up 263 points as they outdistanced second-place Jennings County for the first conference title in Struck?s tenure as Jeff coach.

?I never won one of these as a wrestler, never even made a final,? said a smiling Struck after his team collected the first-place trophy. ?Unbelievable job by the guys, they really wanted this and the credit goes to them.?

Jeff?s winners included Curtis Smith (112 pounds), Renaldo Weekly (125), Coty Hendricks (145), Alex Bailey (152), Caleb Browner (171), Tyler Tatgenhorst (189) and Jon Clark (285).

?Four of our guys were seeded first and you always want to see them be able to win,? said Struck. ?What?s great is having three other guys come out with wins when they weren?t seeded to do so. Caleb, Renaldo and Curtis were not seeded to win and they did. Jon Clark has been out 10 straight matches and on crutches ? he just came back today and was able to come out on top.?

Jennings County scored 200 points in placing second.

Floyd Central ended the day in third place with one individual champion in Aaron Witt at 130. He beat Joe Reitman of Jennings County in the championship by a 6-3 decision. The Highlanders had a pair of runner-up finishers in John McAndrew (171) and Garrett Blackman at 135. New Albany placed fifth, led by Tim Martin ? who won the title at 119.
