WRESTLE BACKS

Wrestle backs:

AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT!

I will present this argument for (or against) wrestle backs.

In 1939 the tournament tried a wrestle back format for a ?true second?.

The runner-up in the tournament was thrown into a pool of wrestlers that had lost in previous rounds to the eventual champ. (I like that concept: if you had not lost to the champ you really had no valid argument as to where you placed)

Laban Foster, brother of Jack Foster (3x state champ from Hammond Clark), lost in first round (for the sake of arguments it looks like a pig-tail round) to eventual state champ Joe Sparks of Bloomington. He won three matches in the wrestle backs to be the declared the state runner-up for that weight class.

Three rounds of wrestle backs to determine a ?true? second place. You make the call.

AND NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY!

Karl,

Thank you for posting a picture of the "Fez".

At some time I expect to be presented with a second Fez to acknowledge my knowledge of the sport.

And as far as the "old fart" comment I choose to ignore it at this point.

But be warned I NEVER forgive or forget.
