  4. Gentleman, As a former Team Leader and Coach of the Junior Duals Team all I ever wanted to was for our kids (Indiana Kids) was to get matches and improve their abilities, somewhere along the way that seems to have gotten lost in what the ISWA stands for. It has been exciting to see the growth of Indiana Wrestling, I remember the days where we would have a couple of kids who could compete on a national level to the point we are at now where we have multiple kids who can compete on a National and International level. The reason this is happening is because there are more opportunity for kids to wrestle and the Coaches are taking full advantage of those opportunities and going to places like Disney or Tennessee or Iowa or Wabash. In my time working with the ISWA I never tried to take a kid away from a Team event like Disney and that is because those events are special to the growth of the kid and the Team. Now I will say I tried to get kids from Fargo because at the duals (just like at Disney) you are guaranteed matches and a great deal of kids felt like Fargo was the place to go to get noticed when in fact those kids were not ready to compete at that level. I go on this message boards and see all the infighting and I get excited and the reason why is because so many people care about this sport their kids and programs. I encourage each and every one of you to stay the path and do what is best for your kids and programs because at the end of the day it is your kids who will get better along with your individual programs. As for the duals yes there needs to be some tweaks on the team selection process but at the end of the day it is wrestling and we need to get as many kids the opportunity to be wrestling as we can. The "elite" know were to go and get the matches they feel help them the most, isn't that how they got "elite" in the first place. If they don't we have a whole bunch of awesome Coaches in the state that are willing to help them I'm sure. Tom Erikson Head Coach Lyon College
  5. As a junior Team Leader I am all in favor of a "two event" requirement. Those events could include tournaments or official RTC practice with at least a Silver Certified clinician running the session. I believe kids would get just as much if not more benefit out of a two hour session at an RTC as they would going to a tournament and getting a couple of matches. Another option would be keep the two events in place but mandate at least one of them is a tournament with an option of the second event being a tournament or RTC. Requiring a silver certified clinician you can assure yourself of someone who has invested their time in learning and understanding the match strategy and techniques. The ISWA can provide a list of those individuals who reside in the state to the RTC's or the RTC's can contact the ISWA to make sure the individual is at least silver certified. The RTC's would require kids sign into the RTC they attend and be able to provide proof if necessary. This isn't the final answer but it sure goes along way to resolve the stress of getting in two events in a four week span.
  6. In talking with the Purdue Coaches they will be having an RTC every Wednesday night for the next several months. It will be a great opportunity for those looking to get to that next level a chance to roll around with those on the Team as well as other studs who show each Wednesday evening. The coaching staff will be running practices in preparation for the Western Regional (Las Vegas), the US Open (Las Vegas) and the University Nationals as well as the FILA tournaments in Akron OH. Their will also be guest clinicians as well as other surprises each Wednesday night. So if you are looking to step up your game the Purdue RTC is a stop you might consider. I plan on attending so why don't you?
  7. In the past their has been a selection process with the state champion getting the right to accept or decline the spot, from their it drops to the second or third place finisher to decline the spot. in theory this has been a good way to select the team but in actuality it has been a nightmare with all the conflicts, prom, SAT's or ACT'S and don't forget the good old Disney duals. I have been associated with this process for well over 10 years and think if we truly want to be competitive we have to do some form of selection process. I truly believe this will give the Team a little bit of the wow factor knowing it is by selection only. Their are still a few bumps that will need to be worked out in terms of the the state tournaments having some influence in the selection process (maybe two Teams). I can say this, that it has been a honor to work with the ISWA and look forward to helping in any way I can in the future. Tom Erikson Team Leader Juniors
  8. Awesome Job Coach Hump and the High Rollers! Went out to Las Vegas and got it done! What happened to Coach Myers, I thought he was one of the Coaches who took the High Rollers to Virginia and some of the other tournaments they competed in. Having an MMA tie in would of been right up his alley. T

  18. Coach Hull is 100% correct in that we do have people who are interested in participating for Team Indiana. When I am contacted my immediate reply is to have them wrestle in the Central Regional that way we can take a look at them and get the best possible kids on the Team. If you haven't been called or emailed or even texted and want to be on this Team please do not wait contact myself, one of the duals coaches or even let your high school coach know and we will absolutely take a look at you and see if we can make it happen. One of the requirements is that you must have a valid USA Wrestling Card. Tom Erikson team Leader Juniors

  20. As the team Leader for the Duals Team this is a great event to help lock in one of the open spots on the Team. Myself and some of the coaches will be attending so we look forward to seeing you get after it. Tom Erikson Team leader Junior Duals
  21. If you don't see a name on here that you feel belongs please let me or Coach Hull know and we will look into it. As Coach said the deadline for the number 1 place winner has passed and we are now looking to fill roster spots with 2nd and 3rd placers getting priority. Disclaimer To be on this team you must have a current ISWA card, it is preferable that you have wrestled in an ISWA event or a USAW event if you have not met the above criteria. Looking forward to hearing from you Tom Erikson Team Leader
  22. Thank You Coach Hull for keeping the Duals on everyone's radar screens. As Coach Hull has stated we as a state would love nothing more than to show the rest of the country how good we are as a State. I think we took a big step in proving that by winning the Folkstyle Nationals last week in Iowa. I would like to continue that success by sending our best kids to Oklahoma City for the Juniors and to Florida for the Cadets. To do this we need your help Coaches, Parents and Wrestles to compete in the ISWA State Tournaments. The State Freestyle and State Greco Tournaments are the first step in the process of representing Team Indiana in their respective Dual meet Tournaments. More information will follow so continue training and we look forward to seeing you on the mats! Tom Erikson Team Leader Junior Duals
  23. I don't think we have scene the best Cashe' Quiroga for several years due to injury or illness. In saying that I do believe we will see him very soon and I do believe he is the best person for what ever weight he chooses to go. If he isn't rest assured Purdue will be well represented at that weight because of Cashe' pushing that individual. No disrespect to the other individuals (they are tough for sure) but my money is on Cashe' money, as I said either way they are going to be tough.
  24. Not that I have a dog in this fight anymore I will inject my two cents. Cashe' beat some guy from Minnesota twice in the Big Ten Tournament name Dardannes and then lost in the round of twelve at the NCAA Tournament where Dardannes placed. Having an All American in the room has a big impact on the Team as it forces others to raise their game to compete at that same level, seeing Kyle win a match over Cashe' is evidence of that. This is a great situation for Purdue as they have two young men who can compete at that next level which in turn should carry over to the rest of the Team.
