  1. Schurg was up 7-0 until last 23 seconds of the Bradley match :-\ First match shouldve been the final match...
  2. I am familiar with the Schurg Bros from Crown Point. Dallas Class of '10 (wrestles 141-149lbs for Milwaukee School of Engineering) Dustin Class of '13 (11th gr) Denton Class of '14 (10th gr) Darden Class of '15 (9th gr) Daylan Class of '16 (8th gr) Rumor has it the 8th grade Schurg brother may only need 80 (+ or -) Varsity wins in 4 years to beat the Doherty Bros record of 539 wins.
  3. Difficult to wind down & hit the sack after watching those two teams go at it... but you can bet the wresters are gonna sleep sound tonight!
  4. Oh What A Night! How 'bout them Dogs?!!
  5. Gettin' Ready To Rumble.... a little more than 2 hours til the long awaited Merrillville vs Crown Point showdown!
  6. Recently we attended an Elite Wrestling Tourney in Illinois for kids ages: K-8th. grade. We were surprised on arrival to find out that there would be "mat-side weigh-ins" previous to every match wrestled. There was only a 2lb. allowance from the first weigh-in continuing throughout the end of the day. (you wrestled not knowing your weight & were disqualified after the match if you were over the 2lb. allowance!) Some of the Elite wrestlers parents were furious that they weren't informed of this rule... Many of these Elite wrestlers, if not the majority of them were State/National Placers from around the country. My point is this, Illinois was trying to get away from the severe cutting that some of these folks practice with their kids for the entire season. If your kid is good & the season goes on beyond March, into May for Freestyle & then onto various Nationals held thru out the states all summer, when does the kid get to eat normally & grow??? If a wrestler arrives at a tourney well hydrated but hungry, the 2lb. weight-gain is not a problem. Kids won't gorge themselves after a weigh-in if they aren't cutting weight & if they aren't dehydrated they won't blow up beyond the 2lbs. from normal drinking! Indiana could eventually work toward this type of system & eliminate the weight cutting at all levels!
  7. Can anyone please be more specific as to exactly where on the internet we can watch the State Finals... just tried to look up Broadcast Sports & there is no mention of this event. Can we get a www. address? Also, will they broadcast both Friday night & Saturday? Thanks.
  8. 2 of the 5 Schurg Bros. will be at Merrillville on Saturday. Dustin@125lbs. & Dallas@135lbs.
  9. Little Brother Wins Hands Down... He only gets the cookie crumbs, the pretzel salt in the bag, the popcorn kernels in the bottom of the bowl, bread crusts for his sandwich. This makes for one tough & determined Little Brother. And if he wrestles along-side his big brother(s) he benefits from the combined experience/knowledge and he will do better!
  10. I heard that N.W. I./LaPorte regionals/Merrillville Semi's missed at least 2 days this week.
  11. I sure hope for the sake of the wrestlers that a lesson has been learned from the Jay County fiasco. Just wondering if Merrillville (IHSAA) has a back up plan in the event of bad weather?? Several of the participating local schools were off on Tues.2/9th & now Wed.2/10th. due to snow, blowing, drifting & dangerous traveling conditions. I know that these schools in particular will not put up with the way business was conducted at the Jay Co. Regionals.
  12. We heard last nite that he had to sit one out for disciplinary reasons(?) ...but he'll be back for Saturday's Regionals.
  13. How about that Dusty Schurg!!! Both teams thought they'd bump up their guys & have no problem... Ha, that sure backfired!
  14. They did allow the same thing last year... To my knowledge there were no issues regarding the 1lb. drop from Wednesday's 5:30PM weigh-in at Team Regionals to Saturday morning's weigh-in at Individual's. As long as the 1lb. allowance is state-wide I guess they are not enforcing the rule???
