  1. After attending the Scholastic Duals this past weekend. I was reminded that former Valpo Coach, John Cook is a must on the list -coached more than 30 years -hosted the Valpo Duals...one of the best high school tournaments ever - Past president of the IHSWCA -IHSWCA Hall of Fame Member -ran the Academic All-State selection for many years -also ran the Top 20 Team poll for the IHSWCA -IHSWCA 'Billy Thom' Award -served on the NFHS National Rules committee -first organized a team of In. wrestlers to the Scholastic Duals -and now serves as an assistant director of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, tournament director last week at the Scholastic Duals, he is why the tournament is in Indiana
  2. I see on the notice message pasted at the top of this page, that the Indiana State Duals Championship will be covered by the NWCA Live Scorebook. I use the Live Scorebook to follow College D-I results as they happen. Now the same way I followed an Iowa-Iowa State dual, I can follow the high matches this weekend. It is really an great system. Anywhere you have internet access, you can follow the matches point by point. This is great exposure for Indiana high school wrestling. If you can't be at Center Grove on Sat., be sure to check it out. It is so simple and easy to use. It is definitely the future of wrestling coverage.
  3. It is great to have this event here is Indiana. The best underclassmen wrestlers from 20+ states competing here. The Indiana teams have done well in this tournament in the past ...4th and 6th last year.....2nd two years ago. Now our Indiana wrestlers won't be facing a 12 hour bus trip belore competing. Wrestlers, if you get the opportunity, don't pass up the chance to compete at this level. Coaches and fans SUPPORT THIS EVENT. It woul be great to keep it in Indiana and not have it go back to Pa. or Delaware . . April 16 and 17 Wabash College, Crawsfordsville.
  4. It would be a good bet that the 1.5% violations would be very common around the state. Most would come from weigh-ins after a wrestler bumped up a weight for a dual, or maybe after an individual illness. Violations from the alpha weight would be less common. On another discussion topic, someone called this coach suspension a slap on the wrist....This punishment is very severe, when you consider the importance that Coach Joll (and most all good coaches) place on this time of the season. Before throwing stones, anyone posting should take a close look at their own school's weigh-in record. It is fortunate that the Chesterton wrestlers have Jason Cook on staff to lead the program in the interim.
  5. A system is available to automatically record and make available online all high school team and indinidual results. The "NWCA Live Scorebook" uses the already entered names from the the NWCA weight management program.(so it is ready for use by any program in Indiana) All Division I college wrestling programs are required by the NCAA to post results within 2 hours, and most all are using this program. The match score is kept on a laptop instead of a scorebook. It refreshes online every 30 seconds, so fans away from the site can follow the action. The program stores all the info and can produce individual stats and team stats. If all IHSAA wrestling schools used this system, stats would be easily obtained. Media or anyone interested could pull up win leaders, takedown leaders etc....and these power rating could be much more easily done. Plus the Live Scorebook has a feature that ties the scorebook with your video camera to webcast your matches for free. Check it out.
  6. some of the best---- going back when the state was at Southport High School: Ron Baker of Yorktown giving Frank Patscil his only highschool loss. more recently.... the Maurer-Dolly match as mentioned. The Jason Cook - Jordan Humphries match, both 50-0, was a great one. ...watching any of our four or three time champs, Angel, Alex, Howe, Hump, Mauer finish their remarkable high school careers
  7. I would high recommend that inexperienced coaches take the NWCA online coaches course. One of the main areas of concentration is retaining wrestlers in your program. Go to nwcaonline.com
  8. The Corpse- Surma match was absolutely ruined by the official. I have been around wrestling for decades, I don't think I have ever seen an official so blatant in his one-sided calls. The stall warning, point, next point, and the two point call came quickly one after the other as Corpe wrestled against Surma's legs-in attack. I am all for making a wrestler compete against the legs...but these calls were ridiculous. The official seemed determined to give Surma a chance in overtime. I was there to watch Chesterton, and had so personal interest in the match. Munster fans that were present...Can you honestly say this match was fairly officiated??
