  1. Great individuals build great teams in wrestling two bad wrestlers can't produce a great wrestler but a bad wrestler and a greta wrestler can. Your usually only as good as your competition. Look at any good wrestler on a bad program ryan pribble from turkey run helped produce another turkey run stater at arround the same weight. Thats why teams are good in areas and not on a whole individuals make the sport and individuals greaten the sport. Its equal how it is 14 wrestlers 14 weights.
  2. I would put money if he was 2nd in the state 4 times and had 4 team titles he'd trade all four team titles for one individual one. That being said I think it is a good thing to have team state it shows who the best team in the state is and gives the season a sense of ending. It also is a big day for those teams coaches. If we class team state though it ruins the sports. It would show how week the low teams are, how much more dominate matre dei is then any school its size, and everyone will wander if matre dei should be the rightfull owners of the crown. If not matre Dei then another small school who has an excellent program. Your systems solve nothing it creates conflict and doesn't have an actual champion. Once again tournements like the al smith invite would be more prestigous for a team like matre dei then there class title. Lets face it this system is great how it is. If you want more questions then answers do it your way.
  3. Wrestling is an individual sport quit trying to class it for the coaches. Cry all you want but no one besides coaches care more about the team then the individual. As a wrestler I can tell you if I wrestled well and the team got beat by 40 points i still slept well that night. I would imagine everyone is in the same boat besides coaches
  4. Less guys in the room also allows for more individual attention with the wrestlers. So there are perks to both sides. Its also not as much about the quanity of the practice partner as it is the quality. I can put 14 bad wrestlers in a room and have 14 bad wrestlers at the end of the day. Or i can put two good wrestlers and have two great wrestlers at the end of the day. There is enough talent at every single school to have a state level team. Better programs just bring in better wrestlers cause thats what they want to do when they get older. Its simple win the community over and compete for titles. Small schools have done it in the past and will do it in the future. No one, besides coaches, care more about there team success then their individual success. Its an individual sport and everyone knows it.
  5. The man showed a competitive spirit that I wish more wrestlers had. He did not quit and let the guy celebrate with time left on the clock. If your going to run away your going to pay the price its rediculous to me to think anything else had occured. Do back flips on your own time the match was still going on. If it happend again tommarro and the same result occured i would stand up and give some loud claps because what I witnessed was one man not use proper sportsmanship and the other man stood up for himself. If a guy makes a mockery of another man with time on the clock he got everything he deserved. Dominate a match with a lil respect or get it handed to you either way the result justified the means.
  6. Y2 you can pull the wool over everone elses eyes but not mine. Your the minority when it comes to changing class wrestling and the numbers will prove it. You can't use your site and your statistics to prove jack. You have the agenda and you scew everything. Illinois has classes i think you said and there fans voted that it hurt the sport. Let me guess Y2 you coach at a small school? Your not getting a pity party for me team states are only for the coaches and wrestling is an individual sport. Basically i'm calling you out. I want to know why we need to change a sysytem that has had a smaller school win the wrestling state title 5 of the last ten years. I also want to no why wrestling less competition throughout a season will benifit the wrestler. It only benifits the small school coaches. Small school coaches are just ego driven and thats a fact. If you care about the wrestlers more then you care about yourselfs you would do whats best for them and thats to not class an individual sport like wrestling. Karl hingus you can be lumped in with this agenda driven man also. So If either of you want to say what we will do with matre dei, or why wrestling worse end of the year tournements will help our sport I would be glad to listen. Y2 your not for the wrestler and you know it all you want is a lil recognition. Heres your recognition your running this board with only one thing on your mind changing to class wrestling. Everyone knows it. So whenever you can tell me what your going to do bout those two problems I'd love to here.
  7. Time was on the clock and no one no matter who the athelete should have to be humilated in front of thousands. Nothing wrong with what he did. The buzzer hadn' sounded so everything is still game.
  8. Well how again is forcing class wrestling down my throat helping wrestling. We are on this rise as a state. Our national level atheletes are about where we should be and we are growing in that field. It is sick to me that we change a good system. This whole site and its makeup is class wrestling. Maybe three articles but I would imagine 1000's of post from the top level guys on here have been about class wrestling. Look that one up for me I have seen you on here posting every other line about it. Classing the sport is killing the system. Its done it to Indiana Basketball. Were to small to class the wrestling. YOU HAVE AN AGENDA. A VERY POWERFUL ONE THAT COULD RUIN THE SPORT AS WE KNOW IT. ADMIT IT HOPE YOU SNEEK IT IN LIKE THE COLTS SNUCK OUT OF BALTIMORE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND I WILL MOVE ON TO A DIFFERENT TOPIC. Be honest with everyone on here you have been pushing it on this site and everyone and their brothers no it and I for one will not fall for it.
  9. so what is a respectable time left on the clock to charge someone who is celebrating during the match. would 10 seconds have been too long? What about a minute? 3 seconds is a long time and he was running for like 8 so no blame goes out here. Honestly it looked foolish.
  10. So I have one yes from oscar the board does have an agenda.
  11. Not been deleted I must admit that but there is a steady stream of interviews polls and articles that are posted on here weekly for as much as 6 months. They do let people discuss I must admit but I still feel as though there is a definate bias toward class wrestling. That being said I think the people who oppose it have to stand up now or the sport will be forever changed in Indiana. This happens all the time in politics and this board needs both sides and I am trying to bring the latter of the two sides. I am and always will be against classing the sport of wrestling and I do believe there is an agenda.
  12. Well I would agree with that a touch mr hingus. If a matre Dei wrestler did a flip and someone pushed him it may be considered unsportsman from the matre dei fellow. The other way arround it would still be his fault. Truth of the matter is most people on here haven't followed college wrestling for very long and big names haven't got the exposer of area teams so I think people are pretty unbiased on this matter.
  13. I want to for the record say I am not for recruiting at all really, but most of the time this is probably for reasons other then a coach saying hey our child should go to my school. I would imagine the parents seek out the schools to better their childs chances at either state or in the educational services. Either way I have no problem with it as long as thier is no coaches envolved in the recruiting. I mean lets get real you want whats best for your kid and a lot of parents will do anything for that. So I have no problem with a parent wanting to take their child to a school based on any reason at all and I don't believe the coaches seek out the parents of these children. Im just tired of everyone looking for a way to blame something. If there are two pizza places close to each other and i perfer the one just a lil farther away im still going to make the trip cause the end result will be better for me and my family.
  14. Karl Hungus you can slant what I say however you like. Fact of the matter Y2 recently put up a poll showing that the people of another state didn't like the change to class wrestling. He then tryed to cover it up by saying that 70 percent of coaches liked it. Lets face it whoever is running this board has an agenda. Its clear to see they want class wrestling and want to push it onto everyone like it is an undisputed fact that it will help the state. Last I checked this was the good ole USA and my opinions can matter. They have been running this board like Communist Russia and I for one am fed up with it. The truth is the only people who would like to see classed state are the small school coaches. They have given up even though the system has had Matre Dei win state titles in the past 5 years. So you scew the numbers anyways you like post all the bull literature on class wrestling you want, a lot of people truly believe the system is great how it is. Push your agenda all that you want the people of Indiana will speak and we know that if team classing happens individual will follow and it will weaken the sport on a whole. Poll the wrestlers and we will see, if you want fact that the state is good, then poll them who matter. Again if you want more fact look at the current system Matre Dei a small school wins on a very consistent basis. Lastly anyone who thinks this new board has an agenda right yes.
  15. You two are knuckleheads. These two are world class atheletes. There should be a touch of mutual respect that would say wrestle the match then celebrate. That being said, kudos to showing some emotion. Just wait three seconds or expect to be thrown out of bounds. He looked like a coward running away. Terrific match but rediculous ending. Looked like a five your old playing tag out there. Bad for the sport.
  16. I have heard stories of catholic football players being bussed an hour and a half to attend thier school, but a lot of these stories tend to be fabricated. Sometimes the dark which you talk about is actually blackend by rumoured things. If the school offers better opportunities for a student why should we step in there way. I mean come on if i lived in the region i would turn my tail and get my kids out of there. haaahaa. Face it these teams down at state are just better programs. This being said all teams can be more competitive if they work hard enough.
  17. Metcalf did the right thing, you wrestle till the buzzer. If a guy tries to humiliate you as a wrestler with time on the clock you should fight like a dog to earn some respect. To me it was desperation and not unsportsman. It was the same as going for a throw with 2 seconds left, only you can't throw someone when there cowerdly running away. If you turn your back on someone during the match it should have been a point. He was celebrating during metcalfs time and not his own so he got what he deserved. He got a W and a lil bit of humility shoved back at him.
  18. Well you have a voice and seem to be very vocal that violaions have occured. If your this attomit about the situation then why don't you state what you know. I think a lot of time good wrestlers come to schools for pure reason with lots of integrity as you say and by word of mouth rumors make it seem as though something illegal has occured. I can say almost anything and people may believe me but unless there is proof its just rumors to me. If thats not happening then people are scewing the facts to make it seem like it. So by all means enlighten the rest of the state on why your team is being cheated.
  19. Its not anyones fault but if I had to place blame it would be the communities. Its not usully their fault its more just how people grew up. The complants about the coaches was just because everyone is complaining but the system is fine. If people step up it may take ten or twenty years, but they can help to get the community closer to be a wrestling powerhouse. Youth programs and off season wrestling help in big ways that some schools just do not have. Its not about a schools size or anything of that nature its about the community coming together to make it a quality program. Look at team state, the gym is packed with fans and a lot of those schools have that kind of envolvement at all home meets. You can see their team pride and point them out at individual state. Its what the familys want to do. They want to have seccess with wrestling like most teams have with football or basketball.
  20. Not every team down at team state has recruited and to say that is ridiculous some just have years of quality programs. Face it the good teams are good cause they have always had good programs good coaches good kids. A lot of these teams have great genes too. Thier fathers were state champions and so on and so forth. How many mcginly's are there, how many bakers, how many escobedos, excetra exctra excetra. Everyone wants there to be something bad with the system cause they can't win. Maybe its about coaching and not recruiting. If you go to the D1 level, basketball for instance, good recruiting doesnt mean good teams look at iu. Meanwhile coaches can be successful even when they tranfer programs. Take a good look in the mirror and if your squad is not winning maybe it has a lil to do with you. Quit placing blame every where. This whole site is filled with people who want class wrestling and want wrestle backs and blah blah blah. Good teams are always going to be good, not cause of size not cause of recruiting, and not even for there wrestlers athletism. Its because the communitys support wrestling more then basketball. Its because when they grow up they want to be on a mat. When the community supports the team wrestling programs are great for long times look at Matre Dei or Adam Central. So again its whinning. So no excuses were all tired of it. Integrity fyi is standing by your results good or bad and not making excuses.
  21. Who cares who recruits who its an individual sport anyways. Matre Dei didn't make it to the finals for the first time in forever and everyone is still yelling about it. Everyone wants everything to be equal now a days but the truth of the matter is things are not ever going to be equal. Perfect is impossible to find and everyone wants a eutopia for high school wrestling the system is not broken. We have more talent now then ever, we have a better wrestling field at all levels, we have had different champions in the past few years, and people have recruited for years its part of the sport live with it. If you hate it so much leave, or better yet work harder to become a better team. Hard work beats all when it comes to wrestling and telent only takes individuals so far. So quit whining everytime a catholic school does something good and start making yourselfs better and maybe kids won't leave your school.
  22. I want a poll added for wrestlers only who thinks that the indiana wrestling system should be classed. If its good for the wrestlers lets let them decide.
  23. Ok for everyone who thinks this system is flawed or broke, name one time that Indiana has had more success in the college level then right now. Name one time where you can rememeber more parity at the top of the state as well. Teams are getting better individuals are working harder the sport is great how it is and its still on the rise. Basically Quit whining we have a great thing going on. As far as y2j and his scewed numbers don't listen to them. All that the numbers he put up show is that small schools are way more competitive then they should be. He shows that the state pool by percentages has more small schoolers making it to state then big. If anything those numbers should be used to show that big schools do not do their due diligents for the sport. Im tired of hearing about Y2J and his cronies trying to change wrestling to class. Lets face it the system isn't broke and for all you small school coaches boo hoo work a little harder. If you would like to break it give the team title for small classes to matre dei if not work harder.
  24. Im not going to throw you a pity party but i do want to say i commend you on what all you do for your community. I find it hard to believe that their are no teachers or parents that will help out in your local athletic programs. Maybe that is the problem. If the parents and teachers helped out with different things like at many other schools maybe their would be higher success rates. It may not be your fault but sometimes thats how the cookie crumbles. It happens at bigger schools as well. Many teams don't have off season programs no matter the size. To be truly great you have to dedicate yourself to your programs whatever they may be. Your own personal experience can not change my mind that class wrestling is a horrible idea. It hurts the wrestlers and thats who i care about.
  25. 1. About needing more then 14 wrestlers: I totally agree with you that throughout the season it is a good thing to have extra spots on the team to help in the room and fill in, but how many backups from other teams wrestled at the team state and helped decide the outcome of matches. I am talking about the close matches not the blowouts early on in the tourney. 2. I would agree with you again it is harder to find wrestlers to fill all the spots. That being said it is done with a lot of smaller schools year in and year out. Also besides a rare few schools there are no more then 25 wrestlers on most these teams. I've been to many small school middle school meets that have 30 to 40 wrestlers the talent pool is there you as a coach should be able to seek them out. 3. Most sports allow for better endurance and athletism for wrestling. Even at big schools many of their top wrestlers play several sports. The same problems with all of these happen at all sized schools. You can't bring your own programs personal programs into it because everyone deals with it. 4. Scheduling- i still don't understand why a coach would ever want to have a weaker schedule beside wanting to make his own ego look good. Also coaches who work extensive offseason programs usually have a good degree of success and can be very competitive at all levels. Everyone wants to whine about it but matre dei along with other teams always compete. 5. Compare class wrestling to class basketball. Everything has went down as far as the Indiana High School Basketball tournament. Attendance and everything else. Football is different in a lot of ways. a. need 11 on both sides plus needed substitutes b. no equalizing factor like wieght classes. c. as far as skill positions players are usually interchangable from big and smaller schools.
