  1. What happened with the Tsirtsis vs Pico match? I saw somewhere that said Pico hinted he may not wrestle.
  2. Wisconsin is bigger, I didnt argue that. I said their population was more densly located. In contrast to Indiana which has its population spread to far ends. Im saying you are looking at one fact, Some states that have class wrestling are better than Indiana, then drawing the conclusion that class wrestling is the answer. Its like saying rich people have big houses so we need to buy a big house so we can be rich too. Nevermind the work it took to get there. Take your blinders off.
  3. Here we go again focusing on one factor. Maybe Wisconsin has a higher population density near their state finals. Maybe its because their state finals ticket price is only $8. Maybe there is nothing else to do there. The one thing i do know is that Indianas state finals was a far better experience than any of the classed states. We should use this event to build indiana wrestling. Next year bring some people that have never been to the state finals. Maybe that could help grow the sport. I remember the first finals i ever went to. It had a huge effect on me.
  4. I completely disagree with your statement and your overall argument. You think the main reason that Indiana is not as good as Pennsylvania is they have class wrestling? By that crazy logic we would never be as good as Pennsylvania anyways because our Population is 6 million to their 12 million. When you throw in a state like Iowa which only has 3 million it makes the argument look even more ridiculous. When no other factors are involved you will statistically have more talented wrestlers from a big school. When you add in all the factors that actually matter like coaching, culture, and wrestling knowledge that is when you see differences. Look at Indianapolis North Central (No offense to any who goes or went there). They are one of the largest schools in the state. How many wrestlers have they had at state in the past 10 years? You guys think there is a quick easy answer to solving the problem as why people are better than us. I will tell you that the same thing that made wrestling great in every other state is coaches that put time in with wrestlers, getting lots of young kids to come out and stick with it, building a wrestling culture, and hard work.
  5. Evidence that we should have a bunch of regional and semi state qualifiers call themselves state champions? Maybe we should have classes for how dedicated you are. We could classify them from the people that eat breathe and sleep wrestling to the ones that just like to wear singlets. This is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. You look at other states and the only difference you see is they have class wrestling and we dont. Its this kind of attitude that is does not allow Indiana wrestling to thrive. You want Indiana to be the best its going to take hard work. You guys keep pointing at mater dei as the exception when they should be the role model. They have made wrestling a way of life. The whole dang town shows up for a wrestling meet. Thats the kind of stuff that makes great programs. We now have a team state tournament cant you just enjoy that for while.
  6. I could not be more against moving to a class system for the individual tournament. I am the only wrestler in my schools history to wrestle in a finals match. I can assure you I would never trade a true runner up medal for a watered down gold. For me wrestling has always been about being the best. I find it offensive to think that making more people feel special is the answer. True exceptionalism is by its very nature unique. Moving to a class system would not make these small schools better at wrestling, it would only succeed in removing the competition. Instead we need to support the small schools, get the interest up, and push them to get better. I dont know how you walk away from the finals match last week and think it was a failure. What we have here is pretty awesome. I think we are looking for the easy way out when it comes to Indiana not measuring up to Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. But even by your own argemts we would never be able to match those states in wrestling strictly based on our population. Maybe we should make freestyle class based as well. It would only be fair.
