  1. They stopped a match yesterday at Rochester for over 10 minutes, to make sure they got the call right. Ended up checking with other officials, making the correct call and sent the match into overtime! There are always questionable calls, mostly if I disagree or it is against me....lol

A little hyperbole with respect to ten minutes.  The problem arose from a Track Wrestling quirk.  The two point stall call is not reflected as such in the program.  The wrestlers were held on the mat until the computer problem could be addressed, the match result had been saved.  The correction tied the match and then the restart option was applied according to the rule Penalty Chart for Stalling: "Wrestler B is awarded two match points and will have the choice of position on the next restart. The choice of position on the next restart only applies if the third penalty (2 points) is for stalling. When a stalling call results in a 2-point penalty being awarded, the opponent will have the choice of position on the next restart. The choice of position on the next restart would be carried over to the sudden victory period in overtime if there is no restart prior to overtime."

You don't see that often at that juncture of a match, and when complicated by technology, delays should be anticipated.  Great call!

  2. It's the coaches' traditional duty to work officials.  Officials understand that.  When assistant officials are available and required, he (they) becomes your only friend and support system.  Most would agree that you will never fully appease an emotional coach or coaches in the heat of competition.  They and their wrestlers deserve the best that you can give, especially with stakes that high and, although they deserve an explanation, there is the point that official(s) must stand by the decision and walk away, returning to wrestlers on the mat.  At that level the repurcussions come later, when you are scratched from the rotation in another match because you call stalling or some other thing on which that coach may focus.  Based on his experience A. Wood's observations are more than salient.  He knows wrestling and people.

It seems that "ruffling feathers" is an accomplishment to which many aspire in the contentious combative relationship between officials and those who observe them.  We have no feathers and in many cases no hair.

  3. This post is not intended to embarass anyone, just wanted some answers.

At the Merrillville semi-state there were 2 forfeits to start the day one was to Jason Tsirtsis and the other was to Graham Redweik of Caston.  Why were these matches forefeited?  Just curious because I'm sure someone would have liked to have that spot.

    Redweik was a injury default.

  4. Kudos to the "bestthatneverwas"

for audaciously and succinctly placing himself and the nuances of one of the most subjective aspects of wrestling officiating on the forefront.  Watching, listening, and analyzing other officials is a great way to make yourself better, but you must still make the call and deal with whatever consequences that come with the job.  If a coach can't stick-up for his kid, who can?

MCKAJC it is agreed that the anatomical answer given seemed not only defensive, but a little "power trippish"

As a spectator, I, too, become frustrated and confused by what I think is obvious.  A monkey could make the stalling call for leaving the ten foot circle without any contact after the start whistle or an out of bounds calls when one foot of each wrestler is on the line, yet officials who make the call are still a berated for making good, sound judgements and choices while enforcing the rules.  "Best" mentioned in a previous post about the evaluation system.  Although many would be slow to admit it, there is direct correlation between advancement in the Tournament Series and self-worth, for wrestlers and officials alike.  The difficulty comes in making the call and not prostituting yourself for a better rating.  Despite rule changes which might help, the people on mat are most responsible promoting the action.

  5. Whats the scoring for the sectional? FF points in the 1st round? Scoring in the wrestlebacks? Advancement points?

  6. .....IT SEEMS LIKE "WIMPIFICATION," "IGNORANCE" AND "EDUCATION LEVEL"

HAS A LOT TO DO WITH MY QOUTE EARLIER.

"YOUR A CLASS ACT."  IT'S NICE TO SEE YOU TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN NAME CALLING ;)

"Quote" It is given in the window.  "Your" is a possessive pronoun.  You're looking for the contraction "you're".  This was fun.... thank you. :-X

  7. Thanks for posting this DLD, as far as  the ''JarHead'' comment we have many nicknames shocktroop, leatherneck, war machine, and my personal favorite ''Teufelhunden"  ;D just to name a few.

I didnt take it as disrespect and trust me being in the Corps Ive learned to have some pretty tough skin!

As far as MWC, should be a great day of wrestling! Really excited to see how it turns out

    GO VIKINGS!

Ahh yes, the German for "devil dogs".  No.  The secret to true knowledge is knowing where to find the answers.  I had no doubt that the nickname would not offend.  Those of us who have had the intenstinal fortitude to roll the dice and enlist in a volunteer force, impending or current conflicts not withstanding, understand the true meaning of the given names and usually wear them with a prideful, knowing smile (eight years) for me.  Bomber's rush to your defense under the guise of political correctness simply demonstrated for me the continued "wimpification" of today's youth.  If it turns out that he or she is an adult, it confirms for me that lack of prior military service is likely a factor of ignorance, ignorance for which a cure cannot be found. ;)

    It was an enjoyable weekend.

  8. This is for you Jim, and the North White "Jar head" :o who is so interested in the MWC:
