  1. because at least two Indiana teams dropped out at the last minute.
  2. Region Royalty- I'm the "guy out of Evansville". I want to make it 100% perfectly clear that the value of the event the IHSWCA team gets versus the value of the event the I put the renegades team together for is quite simply not comparable. The IHSWCA team gets transportation, meals, and much better gear. I have been involved in this event for 10 years as a member of the IHSWCA team staff and they do an outstanding job with this event. The experience your grandson will gain from this weekend will be invaluable for him in upcoming years. Its a shame that you see it as such a burden. Maybe you should encourage him to give up his spot to someone else who would appreciate the opportunity a little more. As far as the renengade teams, our goal is to make the trip as inexpensive as possible. That cost doesnt not include any transportation, food, hotels, and very little gear. We purposely do not want to compete with the IHSWCA teams in anyway, or take any of their thunder. Those teams are made up of the best our state has to offer and they deserve to be in the spotlight. (by the way, Team Indiana is also the returning National Champions of this event!) I want to personally apoligize to ANY and ALL of the IHSWCA members who have worked hard on the IHSWCA Teams. I in no way meant for this comparison to happen. I guess this is what we get for trying to help fill out the field of teams to improve the quality of the event and give more Indiana kids the chance to compete and get better.
  3. update as of 6:00 am Saturday morning. The Renegades are looking for a 220 lb wrestler for next weekends tournament, please contact me if your interested asap. info above.
  4. one other thing to consider...as an INDIVIDUAL sport (as specified in IHSAA Bylaws) wrestling is able to do things that TEAM sports cannot do in the offseason etc etc. Careful what we wish for. I am pretty sure that per IHSAA bylaws that only Team sports can be classed and if we are classed, we are a team sport, and there are HUGE changes that come with that. No more summer duals etc etc.
  5. update- We have filled all spots on the teams. Thanks to all that contacted me with suggestions. I will post the final rosters once I get every last detail finalized. I dont want to take any thunder from the IHSWCA teams that have been assembled. Those teams will represent Indiana very well. I also think that the Renegades will represent our fine state, their schools, coaches and parents very well. We look forward to taking the mats with the wrestlers we have committed to us. Good Luck Indiana!!
  6. THIS EVENT IS FOR NON-SENIORS. ONLY CURRENT 9-11 GRADERS ARE ELIGIBLE The Indiana Renegades need a few wrestlers to to fill spots for the NWCA National Scholastic Duals at Wabash College on April 12-14. The Renegades are NOT and have nothing to do with the Indiana Gold and Indiana Blue teams that the IHSWCA (Tom Miller and Aaron Moss) have and are putting together. The Renegade teams are made up of wrestlers who want to wrestle in this national event and gain valuable experience by competing in matches with opponents of national caliber ability. The Renegades are mostly made up of state and semi state qualifier etc etc. The Renegades are put together by a group of coaches from the northern, southern and central parts of the state. We were allowed to enter the event becuase we had a complete and competitive team last year and the event needs quality teams to fill out the tournament field as the event continues to grow and add teams. We asked the tournament director if we could enter a team again this year and they have allowed us to do so. The Renegade spot in this event could go away in the future as the event grows but for right now we are allowed to enter and we are very excited that this will give another group of Indiana wrestlers an opportunity to compete in this VERY tough event. I have been to Disney and seen the All-Star division and this event is on par with that level of competition. It is as tough as it gets. As of right now, the Renegades are in need of wrestlers at 138, 170 and 195. There is a 5 lb allowance with only one weigh in. You will have to be at Wabash College on Thursday April 12 at 4:00 EST to meet your teammates, go through a practice, and weigh in. The Dual meet event will run 5 rounds on Friday April 13 and the remaining rounds on Sat April 14. All matches are in the fieldhouse at Wabash College. The cost for the event is only $82 plus your rooming cost (if needed). You must have a USA wrestling card. Cost includes a singlet, shorts, tee shirt, and entry into a national caliber event that gaurantees you 7 dual meets. You cannot go two and out at this event!! You will be battered and bruised but you will better after the weekend and as they say, what does not kill you makes you better! If you are interested in filling a spot for the Indiana Renegades for this event, please email me at eisports@sigecom.net. Please send me info on how you finished in the IHSAA State Tournament Series the past couple seasons and any other ISWA or national event info that may help along with your contact info including a cell number that I can contact right away. We will fill these positions as quickly as we can so move quick if you are interested. GOOD LUCK TO ALL INDIANA WRESTLERS AT THIS EVENT!! Jeff Schaefer Evansville Memorial HS
  7. Anybody have any seats to get rid of? Would like lower bowl but will look at anything at this point. We are a group from Evansville Memorial and the group of our supporters who wants to go watch Matt Powless in his senior year keeps growing. Please contact me at eisports@sigecom.net if you want to get rid of any extras. thanks Jeff Schaefer Evansville Memorial Wrestling
  8. as a fan that has been to major league baseball, nfl football, ncaa wrestling finals, ncaa football games, and other sporting events at big stadiums in big cities, I can tell you that the walk to the Ford Center from the parking lot at the Centre is pretty much the norm at events these days. Parking is available alot of times for a fee and it is alot closer (also like big city venues). I know it would be great to have a huge lot right next door that would be free, but thats not the case. I love the arena. I didn't know if I was for or against it when they decided to build it...but I', def in favor of it know that it is up and running. I think they did a great job on it. AND...if you havent seen the ICEMEN play....you need to go. I havent met a wrestling fan yet that hasn't loved the hockey games!
  9. Just curious what everyone thought of the Ford Center and the 1st Semi-State at the new arena? I will add this....we all know the food was expensive etc etc...and everyone understands that the host school, area coaches, and the people planning the event have ZERO control of that. We can either have it in a gym, like Merriville, and have other issues, or have it in an arena and have the high cost of concessions. Thats part of the deal. I for one loved the "state" layout of four mats right down the middle. The intros were good. I liked that they did a great job of keeping people off the floor. I think it was huge upgrade from Roberts Stadium. I hope we can keep it in Evansville and improve on things like availability of more than one shower for the kids etc etc.
  10. +1 coach!! This sport SUCKS at times like this. Its both the greatest thing ever and the worst thing ever at the same time. We jump from mat to mat in the state tournament. In THIS match an underclasmen qualifies for another week and its a great feeling, then 5 minutes later a senior in the next weight class up has his season/career end on a heartbreaking loss and his dreams are shattered. It all makes up what is the sport of wrestling. We tell our kids...you know there is no media hype, no press, you do this for the love of the sport, for the personal growth and the quiet confidence that your doing something 99% of other kids aren't interested in or willing to do. Its too hard for most kids. When you walk down the halls at school, give your teammates a silent nod and know that you are both part of a special fraternity of tough people. And when they start feeling sorry for themselves, we tell them, hey don't be a victim. You know the rules. Wrestling is unfair, its as tough as it gets. Cruel things happen to good kids....its a tough sport, but YOU PICKED IT. You signed on for the job. I deal with it by knowing that after 4 years of wrestling, those who "finish the journey" are going to be more prepared to be successful in life than many others who never put themselves through it. There are a few kids from Evansville area that my heart bleeds for today...they are feeling a terrible pain. They deserved better. But they are going to be very successful people in the overall scheme of life.
  11. Hey Y2- Evansville Memorial is 14-3. Looks like 8 of our 9 matches at last weekend Harrison 10 way got added twice. You have us as 21-4...(I wish) these matches are on our results twice.... Evansville Reitz (loss) (wins) Evansville Harrison Forest Park Union Cty (Ky) Southridge Tell City South Spencer Trinity (KY) Heritage Hills well....off the the hockey game.... Thanks for all you do for our sport!! Schaefer
  12. I'm curious to the different areas of the state and when they wrestle most of their Middle School schedule. Particularly Dual Meet Tournaments. Down here in the deep south most of our MS wrestling happens in February and early March in about a 4 week period. We are looking for a couple dual meet events to enter in November-January. I thought it would be a nice tool to have if everyone would list any middle school tournament that you host. Mark it "I" for individual and "D" for Dual meet. I will start with what I know. If you know you have openings, be sure to mark it...maybe this will help us communicate and help fill open spots. Evansville Memorial - March 3 - "D" Highland Hills - February 25 - "I" Mt. Vernon - February 25 - "I"

    Win Win

not being shown in evansville at all. closest theater showing Win Win is in louisville. Is it worth a 2 hour drive to a wrestling fan???
  14. Just added Elkhart Memorial to the list of Westfield, Columbus East, and Evansville Memorial. Can take up to four more teams.
  15. I think a huge key here would be to somehow ease into this so that schedules can be revised over time, etc etc. AD's are going to be much more willing to help if thats the case. From this coaches perspective I think it would be very smart, and would get alot of people behind this event if it was an ALL IN event. If you leave teams out, or try to do an invite only thing, we are right back to 90% of the teams in Indiana not caring about the event since their team has no shot of being involved in it. Let everyone in, and class it and you will have quite a bit of support. Any coach who chose to not be involved in this event would be shot by their parents and booster clubs. We need to think MONDAYS for now. I know it stinks for weight, but that's why we should think Mondays. Nobody wrestles on Mondays and furthermore, there is no varsity basketball on Mondays. It would be an empty night that we could schedule on right away and not have to change anything for a couple years. We wanted to wrestle Castle in a weeknight dual and we wrestled on Monday night two years in a row until we could clear the schedule and find another night. Coach Harmon and I didn't like it, and it wasn't a perfect situation, but we still had great dual meets and everyone made weight both years. Monday of week before Xmas Break - Sectionals First Monday after Xmas Break - Regionals Following Saturday (5 days later) - Finals This would not interfer with any christmas tournaments. This would not interfer with current schedules (except for the Finals weekend..which is known as the BELLMONT WEEKEND) This gives the maximum amount of time for a team to qualify for the finals and make plans for travel. (five days instead of 2 in some suggestions) This would allow the IHSWCA to give everyone notice that the 2013 and 2014 tournaments would be Monday night based events and that the change to Tuesdays would take place in 2015. (if thats what they choose to do) That gives school three years to free up two Tuesday nights. Overall though, I think Mondays work great. Its TWO Mondays tops and if a team knows they have a state tournament event on Monday, they will make adjustments over the weekend and be prepared to compete on a Monday. Coach Gelarden was correct in that everyone would need to state their intent to participate early enough to get the event planned. I think would need to be a year in advance if possible. We would rely heavily on the 16 regional reps to find out who intends to compete and who does not. I think it should be mandatory that the head coach be a member of the IHSWCA for their team to compete. If we suddenly had 500 coaches association memberships, and we had an IHSWCA State Tournament that was making substantial money, the IHSAA would look foolish and I for one would enjoy that.

  20. Due to the snow last week, we had our senior night snowed out and now the team we were scheduled to wrestle will not make it up. We have 13 seniors who deserve to have their night and we are looking for a dual meet to honor them. We can host wednesday or thursday. If anybody in southern indiana still has a point left and wants to break up the sectional week, we would love to wrestle. Please contact me asap. eisports@sigecom.net
  21. remember forever that this is the school that Nike's Phil Knight has given more than 300 Million dollars to (over the last ten or so years) and they dropped wrestling in a "cost cutting" measure two years ago. No wrestling fan in their right mind would EVER root for Oregon in any sport. Want to see something even more nauseating (spelling?), google search the new basketball arena and the new basketball floor. If they had 3 football uniforms instead of 7, they could afford the support the wrestling program! They have 7 helmets! Thats 6 more than they need...or 600 more helmets that they need. And those helmets are approximately $225 each. Thats $135,000 in "alternate" helmets. Talk about a "testament to your wealth"!
