The Greyhounds finished with a 5-2 dual record with wins over #5 Wisconsin Parkside and #15 Maryville, and fourth in Super Regional 3. In 2011-12, Warthan led UIndy back to Nationals, with a trio of Greyhounds qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships. Freshman Josh Kieffer came home from the meet as an All-American, taking sixth in the 125-pound weight class. In addition to Kieffer's All-American finish, Ethan Harris became the first UIndy wrestler to earn NWCA All-Academic honors all four years of his career. The 2010-11 Greyhounds finished the year with a dual meet record of 4-5, with a pair of national qualifiers in Nick Walpole and Matt Irwin. Both earned All-American status, with Walpole taking the 149-pound national title and Irwin taking sixth at 141. Phil Strader, the only other coach in the history of Perry Meridian, coached under Chauncey at Southport before the schools split. Phil was a big contributor to Indiana wrestling at the national level. I know that he is very upset about the Olympics. more Chauncey coaches!!

  19. I will tell you that it seems that wrestling coaches and the IHSAA seem to be at their most distant relationship since I have been coaching. I do believe there is an ear at the IHSAA who is willing to listen but I believe it is being shut down from above. I still will never understand the logic of not scoring Friday night, not scoring the first round of the semi state, no medals for the team, and the loss of a team concept at the state dual championship. How much different was it to win state in the individual tournament and the team duals. Light years. One of our eight kids there could not find his pass and could not get down to the floor. We got 7 medals. No handshake of congrats from the IHSAA commiss. No team jumping up and down in the center of the mat. No parents and fans celebrating. We really stepped backwards. I like keeping score at the individual. It was fun but to crown a champion, well, not the same. And Bankerslife was like a prison camp. I won't get into some of those issues but a Bankerslife employee told me that part of my issue was a directive from the IHSAA. I will just have to raise money to buy all my kids a medal since we only got seven because it took a full room of kids to accomplish what these kids did this year.
  20. How about the tree that Chauncey McDaniels started. WOW. I should start a new post but if you have a tie with Chauncey and coaching please post. I do. He was my coach in High school so anyone under me has ties with him. Keep em coming!! Al Morgan-Warren The Late John Hurrle of Tech Dave Holman of Southport lets keep the ball rolling.......
  21. It's the same format as New Castle, but I feel bad for grandma and grandpa who came to see lil Johnny wrestle and they could have found a seat by mat one where they knew all week that he was on but now he is on mat four and they are all the way across bankers life Or how about coaches who could know ahead of time what kid was coming up where and they could adjust their coaching staff accordingly to make sure that a certain coach could be with that kid. Again. I don't get it.
  22. Yes they can Pre assign. It was always nice to try and sit in the area where your kid was going to be wrestling. No longer!! I don't understand some of the changes.
