  1. To be quite honest, my hat is off to Perry. This is not an extremely strong and talented team. It is not loaded with studs. Instead they have hard working, hardnose program kids carrying their team. There is no program or team in the state that would not love to have what Perry has and that would include the top teams in the state. Can any other coach in the state take this Perry group of kids and be this competitive? I wish more could. This would make for some damn exciting wrestling, just like we saw last night. There are no losers here. Just great wrestling.
  2. Got my lines mixed up. That is 9 top ten wrestlers vs 5 top sixteen wrestlers and 5 unranked wrestlers vs 9 unranked wrestlers. That still looks like a record number. Don't those numbers look a little lopsided to you? If Perry loses at 112 and/or 152 they are dead ducks. No luck here just a fact. This is a bad match up for Perry with two of their three studs in swing matches. By the way, we wrestle 365 days a year in this house ,no sitting at home. We will spend our Spring Break in Iowa for Folkstyle Nationals. Have fun on the Beach. Or maybe I'll see you in Iowa.
  3. OK, I took a snow day and I have too much time on my hands. I did this by the science and math method. The only way Mishawaka loses this is if you guys do not show up to wrestle. Get prepared to open up a can of woop ass and do just that. I am just calling it as I see it. I have no favorites. Mishawaka has 9, thats right!, 9 guys ranked in the top ten, 3 guys ranked in the top 16 and only 2 guys unranked. That has got to be some kind of record. Perry on the other hand has 2 guys ranked in the top ten, 3 in the top 16 and 9 unranked wrestlers. Do rankings really mean something? That is a question for the coaches to answer. Some coaches work to get their guys ranked others do not give a hoot. Which one are you? In my opinion rankings are a good thing. They are a measuring stick for each kid to see how he stacks up against the competetion but there is no replacement determination, heart and pride when it comes time to hit the mat. This match will be just as much fun to analyze after the match is over. Good Luck to all! Wish I could be there.
  4. They almost got grounded by Bloomington South. I will predict Mishawaka will win this by same score PM beat South. Close match but Mishawaka will prevail. If I were Perry I would be more concerned about Bloomington at Team State Regional. Staying healthy, eligible and improving in the next four weeks will be major factors. I look forward to the match, but more important the rematches when it really counts. The Bloomington South rematch will determine if you even get to the Mishawaka rematch.
  5. Timeinandout Sorry! Cupcake is a poor choice of words. What I was really referring to was small school teams. If you read all my post I think you will see I understand scheduling is not that easy.I also understand the prowess of top ten teams. But I do not agree with beating the crap out of a smaller opponent and then pounding your chest about your undefeated and how awesome your team is. Is a little humility too much to ask. I once heard a very prominent coach refer to these as feel good tournaments. Depends on which end you are coming from. Don't take it personal. It is all opinion and you know what they say about that Respectfully Oscar
  6. The question I would have for you Y2 is, would it be a positive thing for Perry to come to your "house"(Wrestling) and give your kids an 84-0 pasting? As a supporter of class wrestling, I can't believe this is a good thing. I can understand conference foes and even sectional competition but this too would change if they quit pitting Class I teams against Class III teams. Your reference to seeding opens up one more question. Seeding refers to Individual. So what is this a team sport or individual? Seems there are too many contradictions in our sport. I have always contended that it is more of an individual sport. I think I will just stick with that and ignore the 84-0 pastings.
  7. Merrivile gets the trophy for weakness of schedule this week.Meaning no ranked teams to test their #8 ranking. This should be on main page menu for viewing each week or is it? ??? ??? This is meaningful information. Thank You
  8. Agreed. I think my point is why do they schedule Class 1 teams and not wrestle some of, if not all of, the reserve wrestlers. Five consecutive scores of 84-0 is ,as I said, Goofy. ;D Using the school yard as an example, what kind of a kid who out weighs another kid by 100 pounds beats the crap out of him 5 times? This would take the term bullyism to a whole different level. Ever hear the saying " Pick on someone your own size." Top ten teams do not need to run up their scores against class 1 teams. They do this to pad the teams record and the individuals record. The only thing that really should count for these top ten teams is how they do against the top 20. No need to beat up the little guy to prove you can hang and bang with the big guy. Both teams that I mentioned are just the most glaring examples. No disrespect is intended. They both wrestled top 20 competition this past weekend and did well. Bravo! No goofy scores. Lets leave it at this, when you wrestle class 1 schools or even class 1 teams we should show some respect and mix it up. Do not run up the score and show fans of wrestling we can be a bully. Do not take this personal. If bullyism is not right then how can this be good for wrestling. It is suppose to be a competition not a school yard slaughter.
  9. I agree . Do you think anyone can challenge Perry for Marion County Title? Dual competition is a better measure if we are competing for a Team Title in February. That is why I refer to the big grind starting at North Montgomery. Mish and Perry are competing for A team title. They should not be looking for cupcakes to boost their egos in December. See you at the MIC coach. It is the toughest conference in the state. No cupcakes in that Conference!!!!!
  10. This guy has got it right! Unfortunately some of these kids are being encouraged to go below this line, which is unsafe for most high school kids. What I am saying is get to 7 % to find your optimum wrestling weight and let the chips fall were they may. Move away from programs that cheat at this if your kid is small. It is a no win situation for you. Team chemistry ??? I think not. It is about what is right or wrong for your kid.
  11. Mishawaka starts their grind this weekend at Traicoff Invite. Perry Meridian will tune up at County Tournament Dec19th for big grind starting Dec. 29th at North Montgomery Duals. Enjoy the cupcakes while you can the "Stud Muffins " are coming. Next up for BD ........cupcake or stud muffin?????? ;D What do you think HighC?
  12. The vote is in and the winner is...................... It is a tie between Mishawaka and Perry Meridian. This was based on the number of Pins. They each had a gazillion. That is to say, it was goofy : I vote for class wrestling!!!!!! ;D
  13. Who wrestled the biggest cupcake schedule last weekend. I saw some laughable ones. One was really silly. Like Division I College Wrestling vs Junior College Competition. ???
  14. Drooke Thanks for the info. You win the prize for the coolest Logo or picture or what ever you call it. My computer skills will not allow me to do that. Homer was the best I could do. Respectfully Oscar
  15. A better word would be physical not brutal, like Dustin Schlater , Brett Medcalf or Indiana's own Andrew Howe. I appreciate that also. Applying pressure and and subjecting your opponent to some level of physical discomfort so that he will concede he has been out matched, is what wrestling is about. Brutality is for war and death. We begin teaching this sport at age 5 usually. I certainly hope we are teaching them respect for thier opponent(i.e. The Hand Shake before and after the match). Young kids are looking at what we adults are doing or saying on this board. Like I said before choking kids out for 6 points is what is ridiculous. And dangerous. That is my point. I often write in a metaphorical sense. Which means I often say things that I do not really expect people to do. It is said to make a hidden point. You have to read between the lines. Like my picture of "Homer". The character is a complete idiot. Is that what I am trying to convey? I am trying to say something here Flightinstructer . I mean no disrespect. Respectfully Oscar
  16. Stall Me Out I am not looking at the picture in this post. I am referring to arm and triangle(anaconda) by definition and purpose. Please google this "Purpose of arm and triangle or anaconda choke . It should come up under Wikipedia Reference. Also "Submission Holds" and possible results. This stuff was originally developed for self defense usually in combat for the purpose of disabling, rendering unconciousness or death. In MMA if you get "Caught" you will TAP OUT or suffer the desired result. As I said in my earlier post many people at all levels are clueless. I hope I do not offend any one here , but some morons think this is ok as long as no one dies "This Time". Don't get me wrong here my son uses a head lock from time to time. But never has he tried to cut off air or blood to the brain. NEVER--- because I would stop the match. Not everyone feels the same way so people should beware and protect there kids. I suggest everyone keep a list of head lockers at thier sons wt. class and watch out and be ready to tap out. Best bet just don't get "Caught" Respectfully Oscar
  17. The Arm and Triangle is, with out question, illegal. The intent is to cut off blood to the brain via the arteries on the left and right side of the neck . Carodid Arteries are the criticl blood supply to the brain. MMA fighers know this and will "TAP OUT". High School wrestlers are often not aware of what they are doing, and some coache as well as refs. Some coaches are playing Russian Roullette with this stuff looking for 6 points and hoping nothing bad happens. Big Mistake. Ask the "GrecoRef " he is one official I have seen consistently stop this.
  18. Rebel This is serious stuff. Surgery at this age could result in a lifetime of recurrent problems. Any surgery will result in "scar tissue" which is damage in itself which will limit 100% functionality. What you want is a lifetime free of pain. Personally I would seek out the best available physical therapist and pursue this first. Physical therapy takes much more time, but in the long run may be your best option. Surgery is no guarantee you will be able to salvage your sons wrestling career. I realize I am shooting in the dark because I do not know all of your particulars. I would advise you not to make this decision just to try to salvage his wrestling for the next year. Easier said than done, but you may want to concede his junior year of wrestling for a slower more permanent recovery. As much as I loved watching my son wrestle it would have killed me to have to make your decision. My son made it through H.S. injury free. Thank God! Lots of pain but nothing serious. My experience comes from my other son who does not wrestle and my mother who had shoulder replacement. From my mothers experience I would recommend Dr. Jackson for a second opinion if you have not already gotten one. It would not hurt to get another opinion. He is an othopedic surgeon. Sorry I do not know his first name. He is southside based out of Community South Hospital. My 80 year old mom had a near full recovery. It took a year of physical therapy after surgery. I personally think Jackson is one of the best. My son, who is not a wrestler, has seen a physical therapist(PT) since he was 2 years old. He is almost 20 years old now. He was born with a minor disability. We also had a disability specialist see him twice a year to recommend possible surgery as he grew from year to year. At 12 years old the specialist(a Doctor-- MD ) said my son needed radical surgery to cut his muscle and tendons. We took this to his PT and she hit the roof and said noway. She sent us to Riley Hospital to have him evaluated by a "Team" of specialist. After a battery of test and observations the team gathered around my son and the head surgeon looked at one of his colleagues on the team and said, "Hell he walks more normal than you John, maybe we should do surgery on you first." In other words upon second and third opinion surgery was ruled out. My son has never had surgery and is better off for it. We still see the same PT once a month. Needless to say we ***potty mouth*** canned the first MD. I hope I am not over stepping my self here. If so I apologize. Respecfully Oscar
  19. And Your Point ??? My son broke his arm falling off a slide once. He was 10 years old. It was in his own back yard and I was 20 feet away. Thats less than the distance across the wrestling mat. No one wants anyone to get hurt but we do not live in bubbles. You sound like your blaming the club. All sports come with injury risk. We try to minimize them as much as possible. I've seen guys carried off of the NCAA Championship Mats, NFL Super Bowls and NBA Finals with injuries. Did you think that you might not get hurt if you participate in competitive contact sports? I hope your son is ok and gets well soon. My son recovered and is in college wrestling now, so don't let this stop him if he really loves wrestling. Respectfully Oscar
  20. Doug You need to stick to the facts surrounding your position. You are comparing opinions and you no what they say about opinions. You need to consult some experts and stop soliciting opinions from coaches, old and current teammates, and of course don't listen to those to those parents they couldn't possibly know any thing about what is in your best interest. Grandpa is probably the greatest resource you have consulted so far. There is a lot to be said for his "Wisdom". Consult Doctors, nutritional experts, stenghth & conditioning professional and a host of other experts not associated with wrestling to gain a better perspective. For your FYI . I am the parent of a son who has wrestled for 14 years now and is wrestling in college right now. We do not buy into the weight cutting Crap and he has been very successful so far. He does it the Y2 way. This is the right way. He trains all year round and hones his skills. The big weight cutters have been stunned when he comes out and pounds them down to size in a 7 minute all gutts match. It was amazing and fun to watch. It often looked like David vs Goliath. We all know what happened in that match up. Good Luck and do not take any of this personal. Grandpa was my sons greatest hero and he consulted with him regularly. Start with him. Respectfully Oscar
  21. Doug It sounds like you may have been misinformed on how to properly maintain weight. Your commitment to be an athlete in the sport of wrestling should have included a year round commitment to proper diet and nutrition. If you want stay healthy all your life this should be a commitment of a lifetime. The fact that you came into each season 20+ lbs from your desired competitve weight indicates you were probably not eating right or training as much in the non-competitve off season. Why would you want to carry an extra 20 lbs around if it is not lean muscle. What you descibe is cutting back to the lean muscle lower body fat weight that allows you to operate at your optimum level of competition. Why not just set up a plan that allows you to stay at your optimum weight all year round. When you do this you allow yourself to develop your conditioning and technique while you are at full strength. I assure you . You will become a better and more competitive athlete this way. Maybe you should rethink this paper and take up the other side of the weight regulation arguement. Ok. I have to ask this question. At what weight class are you currently competing ? More Later ! I need to give this some more thought. Respectfully Oscar
  22. Lets Have a Poll. Well done men!! You can't please all the people all the time. I was there until 1:30 Am No big deal. The Compitition was Great !!! 8)
  23. Doug I'm not sure I would agree with you. But, present your best arguement in your paper and let us play devils advocate. My first arguement would be based on answering Y2's question. My answer is conditioning and technique. You seem to indicate that weight cutting was a major reason for your success. 20lbs is not a lot if you are in the upper weights but 145 and below I would say you are hurting yourself in the long run. Check medical and psychological research regarding improper weight loss techniques and the long term effects. Kidney damage is one medical problem that was mentioned in an earlier post. This may not show up for years into your aging.Diminished kidney function could be a problem and you might not even know it. More later. Good Luck. Respectfully Oscar
