  4. Go to the Ihsaa website and check out a lot of the wrestling information. Go to the 2017-2018 tab. There is info on dates, weight requirements etc. I'd read the weight management, winter bulletin, and make sure the coach does the online rules meeting. http://www.ihsaa.org/Sports/Boys/Wrestling/tabid/74/Default.aspx#21062242-2017-18
  5. Brad made it to the Spider wall were it eventually slipped. Unfortunately his run did not make the cut even though some people falling on the first obstacle did!!! I'm sure he will try again next year as he's developed the itch. As a fun side note every year we head out to Terry Spine's, Brad's dad and one of our youth coaches, house and run an obstacle course through his woods to kick off our season. I am excited to see what new and crazy obstacles they have for us this year as I know they built some new ones to help Brad train.
  6. In case you missed it Brad qualified for the Vegas finals last night. Not bad for his first season!!
  7. Just an update if you are interested. If you don't go blind from the impending solar eclipse on Monday Aug 21st you can watch Brad Spine on the finals episode of Kansas City that night. We are told that he should be getting some airtime in this episode.
  8. Stinks we didn't get to see his run. He said he fell at the very end of the bar hop right before the warp wall. From talking to Brad I believe he will be featured more in the Kansas City finals episode that airs Aug 14th.
  9. And interview with Brad about the upcoming show on Monday! http://www.wave3.com/story/35791869/floyd-county-man-competes-on-american-ninja-warrior#.WVd1f_fHqys.facebook
  10. Tune in or set your DVR to American Ninja Warrior next Monday, July 3rd, at 8pm to watch former Floyd Central Wrestler Brad Spine compete. We don't know how he did but if you've seen any of his videos he probably fared okay.
  11. Congrats Michael!! It has been a long time coming. Coach Weimer is going to do an amazing job! I hope the people of Noblesville High School like passion because he's bring a lot of it!!
  12. I totally agree!!! Is this something the Coaches Association recommends or do does bringing this up just make us look like the whiny wrestling coaches? Would bringing this up hold us back on other requests?
  13. Here is the real question. If you let a 106, 113, 120, 126 pounders to weigh 2 over does the weighin the following week count as a qualifying weighin because all 4 of those weight classes would have to lose more than 1.5% in order to get back down to their weight class the following week. I know when we ran into this this year I only allowed those guys 1lb just to be safe.
  14. I believe we have the JV refs figured out.
  15. We ended up losing an extremely tight and exciting dual to St. X last night 28-34. The video of the event is posted on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/floydcentralwrestling/ The varsity portion starts about 2 hours and 20 minutes in. You will be able to get a feel for the sound, lighting and everything.
  16. Live stream is up and running on the Facebook page pages above!
  17. Isaac Knable grew up in our youth program before attending St. X. Isaac and I were also teammates at IU. Our dual is usually very competitive with emotions running high!
  18. We are breaking out some pretty awesome custom singlets for this dual thanks to EI Sports!!!! Hope to see a lot of local Southern Indiana wrestling fans tomorrow night!
  19. We are taking a play our of some of the college programs playbook the past few year and The #19 Floyd Central Highlanders will be wrestling the #3(KY) St. Xavier Tigers on our auditorium stage on Dec 23rd. The Floyd Central vs St. X dual is always a fun and exciting dual and we have decided to amp it up a notch this year. Our middle school programs will start the program, then a few JV matches and varsity will be the main event. I know that is is the date of the IHSWCA team state but if anyone is close to the Southern Indiana area this will be an amazing high school wrestling event to attend. We have a national recognized theater program that has agreed to work with us on sound and lighting as well. Our Facebook page will have updates and reminders next week. We also plan on trying to run a Facebook Live feed from our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/floydcentralwrestling/ Hope to see you guys there!!!
  20. I think developing a crowd and a more intense atmosphere for week night or even weekend duals (Quads possibly) would be great for the sport. My eyes were really opened to this just this year. We (Floyd Central) hosted our HHC Duals on Friday and Saturday, we typically only host the Friday portion of the event and its always a fun atmosphere. On Friday night 4 teams wrestle 2 duals. 1st Round Floyd vs Jeffersonville and New Albany vs Jennings County with the 2nd round be Floyd vs Jennings and Jeff vs New Albany. On Friday night our gym was packed with friends, family, and alumni from the 3 local schools. So much so that people were having trouble finding places to sit. The atmosphere was fun, loud and intense. I talked to my AD that night I said man the crowd was awesome and that we might be in trouble for Saturday with seating since 4 more teams were coming with JVs. 9am Saturday rolls around with the addition of 4 more teams and there was plenty of seating. Yeah those friends and people trickled in throughout the day but the atmosphere was not nearly as fun as the night before. I am with the everyone else in that I don't want to drop a weekend dual like calumet where my wrestlers have a chance to see multiple state ranked teams and individuals. But I do think there is something to be said for making wrestling more of a fan friendly sport and there has to be a happy medium. A weekend quad or tri against tough teams might be solution. I believe if we can get people to matches more consistently it would for sure help the numbers. Also as a coach when I try to think when my wrestlers get banged up and injured the most it is for sure after a long weekend and if it isn't the first its the 2nd or 3rd long weekend in a row we wrestle.
