  1. I'm sure that is how it started rise but AJ and I have a tendency to get off track.
  2. I thought that might generate a reaction. I know there are plenty of 103s that are legit wrestlers, but you would have to admit that there are many more 'hallway recruited' 1st time wrestlers that are sold on the fact that they will 'earn' their varsity letter at 103 than all the other classes combined. I am being a realist on the adding a weight class issue. If it were possible to have both, I would be OK with that, but don't see it happening. Nothing against 103 lbers. If the data showed that 160 had 25% forfeits, I would be for eliminating that weight class and adding a class where there are more kids wrestling.
  3. What is hard to understand? Weight classes are adjusted all the time to reflect trends. The data shows that 103 is by far the weight class that most schools can't fill, therefore an adjustment in the weight classes adding an additional weight class somewhere else would give opportunities to those have spent a couple of years in the practice room already and have earned a place on a varsity team rather then just being the beneficiary of genetics to have a varsity spot.
  4. What about the 90% of schools that have an upperclassman who has paid his dues in the room but can't win a varsity spot because the weight classes don't reflect where the majority of kids are at?
  5. I agree but what I don't understand is why a respected wrestling writer (Creason) is saying Mishawaka is #1 when the poll says otherwise.
  6. No. 1 Cavemen punish rivals TIM CREASON Tribune Correspondent PLYMOUTH ? After months of pounding each other in the practice room, No. 1-ranked Mishawaka?s wrestling team was happy to finally see a different colored uniform out on the mat this week. From coaches poll: 1. Evansville Mater Dei 389, 2. Perry Meridian 385, 3. Mishawaka 382 Is EMD #1 or Mishawaka?

  11. To me it is an Apples and Oranges comparison of sorts. I only used the comparision to give some structure to the point of school size as it relates to participation. To keep the point in perspective, wrestling is by it's very definition an individual sport first...and a team sport second. If the individual steps on the mat and does what he has worked to do, then the team outcome will follow if all are working as hard as they can as individuals. No one there to pick up the slack or lend a hand. It's just the wrestler and that six minute monster he has to tame. If I had to give and answer to your question, I would have to say Yes - for Football I am in favor of it...althought I think it needs a total overhaul in its implimentation. But even as it stands, we see 3-A schools kicking the daylights out of 5-A schools year in and year out and 2-A schools who can play with the big schools on any given weekend. It's more about the skill sets of the teams and what they bring to the table. As I said, obviously have a larger pool of talent available to a program greatly increases the odds, but every year we see the "exceptions". To sum this up...as weird as it sounds...do we have a "Class System" for High School Debate or Chess? Or how about Swimming/Diving orTrack and Field? I am guessing the answer is NO. Why not? Well that would be because of the following: A. These are individual based activities that focus more on the individual performance than that of the team. B. Not a huge source of revenue for the IHSAA or the Education System of Indiana. However the state does have a tournament series for the entire teams. All other sports that have the required participation level have class team champions. (baseball, volleyball, etc). They are non revenue generators also. I'm guessing the state wrestling series brings in more then baseball and volleyball combined. The IHSAA should be consistant and have a classed wrestling team state series at the very least.
  12. If you would politely point out that information to RankingsGuy, I am sure he would take it into consideration.
