  1. ontherise (of merrillville semi state and specifically da region fame) and I, as well as several sworn to secrecy regional reps from around the state, talk on a regular basis, and i take their input into consideration as ontherise pointed out
  2. A big win can always move a kid who is not on the watch list onto it, and from the watch list into the rankings. I think I know which situation you are talking about, and he has had a pretty disappointing season this year after his semi state appearance last season.
  3. haha, not going to touch that one with KING REX lurking over here
  4. newest results take precendence, but the old results are never thrown out.
  5. It is only used as a guideline, and as you see, several kids with no state experience in the rankings.. However, for a kid to go from say a 7-22 record last year to being ranked in the state this year is kind of far fetched, so it all depends on the situation.
  6. no, in those cases i go to previous state experience and consider the strength of their semi state
  7. this actually came up when i was ranking kieffer at 112 who has some nice wins and a state medal but was defensively pinned by unranked fisher from martinsville. what i do is normally drop the kid down if there are kids in the same "tier" as him, which normally drops him down a couple of places, i have divisions of tiers that i also do not post. from there, if he continues to pick up quality wins he'll move back up, but i definitely pay closer attention to him and more losses will drop him down farther
  8. Graber's less than impressive win (5-2) over unranked Brett Worden who didn't place very high at the Al Smith, coupled with Hodges' close match at 215 with Cleveland at the Traicoff was enough to move Hodges past Graber at 189
  9. t0 answer your first question, i would say that it depends on where both are in the rankings. a top caliber kid at 152 for example should not be losing to an unranked 160 pounder. however, a kid who is towards the bottom of the rankings at a weight class may struggle with someone in a similar position at the weight above. to answer your second question, kids are definitely not penalized for wrestling a strong schedule. look at blake roytek for example. no "quality wins" for example, but his close matches with the top guys show me that he will beat a kid that may have a better record but not have wrestled anybody
  10. an injury or an inability to make weight pulls a wrestler back down to my "watch list" which consists of the next 8 to 10 guys to fill in the rankings at each weight which i do not post. as soon as the wrestler is back in action, he goes back in his appropriate spt
  11. great question clive.. in the beginning of the season i just started with every returning state qualifier (and at the weights where there weren't many i used ticket round guys) and put them at their new weight classes for this season. as the season progressed, i would see results of these kids, and use first head to head, then margin of victory, and then previous state experience to sort out from there. when a kid decides to drop a weight, that is a different scenario...obviously in the case of a brandon wright, he beat eppert so he's number one. but in the case of will sheets who was struggling at 130, he got ranked higher at 125 b/c he placed 4th at that same weight class last yr.
  12. i've had this idea for awhile, i want to start this topic as a place for all of you to ask me questions about why someone is ranked a certain place, or not at all. there is a method to my madness, and i think this would be a healthy discussion. fire away!
  13. see post titled 130 for my explanation of that weight class
  14. First off, I would like to say that 130 and 135 were the last weight classes that I ranked b/c I was going back and forth on them so much.. After much thought, I decided to put Spencer at #1 at 130 because to say the least I was very impressed with his ability to put 9 or 10 points on the board against Cashe' who is very tough to score on. At 2, I hate to say that anything is a "fluke" and I know the reaction I would receive for putting Harper ahead of Cook, so against my better judgment, I put Sampson Cook at number 2. Third I put the 3x returning state champion, and because of his previous career wins against Porras, I had to put him behind at 4th.
  15. THEY ARE UP!!!!!! enjoy and comment
  16. I don't see why Joe would not delete this thread, since everytime indianamat.com was mentioned in the OTHER board, the posts were promptly deleted and the poster was banned
  17. the next rankings will be posted on monday nite. if you feel that you have pertinent information, please share it either here or send me an email at RankingsGuy@hotmail.com , the next set of rankings are well on their way, but will not be finished until tmrw nite so you still have time to get your info in!
  18. If so, against whom, where at, and what time?
  19. Fred Joseph graduated in 2000, therefore his 2 state titles and 5th place finish were not as deserving as Mike Escobedo's 2 state titles and runner-up finish. Jason Tabor would be behind runner-up and champ and senior nationals champ David Maldonado since he graduated in the 90's. Also, Eric Keith's one title in the year 2000 would be behind Eric McGill's 2 state titles and runner-up finish.
  20. They have both already made scratch weight at 140 and 152
  21. I need a weight class on Tony Lovejoy. Which one will he be going for the state series 119 or 125? I need a weight class on Steven Ross of Concord. Will he be going 112 or 119? Need an injury report on Jordan Legan of Center Grove. How long will he be out? This will help me to know if I should still rank him or wait until he returns to action. Also need a weight class on the Bellmont guys Will Sheets and Tyler Baker. Heard that they were going to be dropping to 125 and 145 respectively, but nothing yet. Is this still in the plans? If you don't feel comfortable posting this information, you can private message me or send an email to RankingsGuy@hotmail.com Thanks, without information the rankings cannot be as accurate as possible. I appreciate the cooperation that I've received throughout the season. It has really helped me to make the rankings the best they can be up to this point.
  22. please check them out and feel free to comment both positively and negatively. thanks! RankingsGuy
  23. Based on Darius Cooley's wins so far, and Travis Thomas' victory over Cooley in said wrestle-off, this is where he belongs at this point in the season. Thanks. RankingsGuy
