  1. I have noticed this also. Do you think it’s a self imposed ceiling because he tightens up his offense against elite talent out of fear of leaving them an opening, or he just doesn’t have the offensive tools to beat the elite?
  2. I agree on the depth and you can certainly tell the environment is electric! The caliber of wrestling was so solid. I hope I’m not being a homer, but I felt like many of IN finest would truly match up very well. I noticed very strong neutral games and the hip heist was utilized in several matches…effectively I might add. It was almost surreal seeing D. Cormier on the mat coaching one of his athletes to a title…in a super close match too!
  3. Great post! Makes me want to see the match even more!
  4. Just finished watching the California state finals matches. Some spectacular wrestling. I honestly believe Indiana’s state finalists would match up very well with California’s finalists this year. would love to see our 150 v. Ca 150.
  5. I’m wondering if there is a “Pete Rose” type situation going to happen here? Not for gambling per se, but perhaps for some history of offense or grievance with Indianamat.
  6. Will there be a limit for how many inductees per year? I believe that would add to the pomp and circumstance!
  7. Agreed, the entire dual had some great match ups. Got me wondering if OK ST was just overranked, their guys wrestled down a bit, Iowa wrestled extremely well, and/or Iowa wrestled down against Mich and PSU? Some combination of all probably. I agree that the criticism of Coach Brands is certainly not legitimate and Hawkeye nation is just fine and will continue to be fine moving forward. PSU is clicking on all cylinders with no signs of stopping soon and Mich really put together a superb team this year. Looking forward to Big10s and then the big show to find out! Who stops Fix this year?
  8. The quality win over OK St. should ease the criticism from Hawkeye fans…at least for a few days.
  9. Anyone catch that Ayala v. Spratley match. Great match with some chippiness to it! Worth a watch for sure.
  10. THIS!!! You and I were wondering the same thing!!!!
  11. It becomes very evident in those close matches with the bigs, who has a Greco background and who does not. Very interesting to watch a Greco guy go to work on his set ups and positioning, then BANG!
  12. Can the Iowa faithful be patient? Seems like a lot of the heat is coming from Hawkeye nation
  13. Agreed. We have had a few guys do well at NCAAs in the past few years, which is fantastic. It is always impressive to me to see the wrestlers PA turns out that go away to assorted colleges/universities and inevitably cross paths again to have a rematch of some high stakes PA high school match, but on the NCAA scene..happens quite often.
  14. Has a single wrestler ever had as significant an impact on the Indiana state tournament wrestling landscape as this young man did? His upset win Friday night made the seemingly impossible; possible. The shockwaves of that win changed the tournament landscape for the remainder of the weekend. Hats off to you big man! You opened the door for several things to happen! BB and CG should consider making this young man an honorary member of your roster this year…at the very least, cut off a small piece of each of your team trophies and mail them to Dekalb HS.
  15. Levi Haines looked super crisp against Robb. Not wrestling as defensively and aggressively taking shots and working hard to finish shots. Robb’s defense is excellent and Haines still got in deep several times and finished a couple. Rapidly approaching that magical time of year in college wrestling… can’t wait!
  16. I happen to agree with you! Brands is an elite coach. I don’t see a better option for Iowa faithful. I’m sure it’s frustrating being so close year after year, even winning Big10, only to fall short at NCAAs. Question becomes how does Brands get his program into a position to overtake a PSU or OSU program. ?
  17. I have noticed Coach Brands has been catching quite a bit of criticism in media and comments sections of videos; especially after Michigan dual. Some stating he isn’t getting max potential out of his wrestlers. Iowa practices too hard, etc, etc, various criticisms. You get the jist. Question I have is who would Iowa replace Brands with if they believe he has fallen too far behind programs like PSU, OSU, Mich?
  18. He was a MANIMAL! So smooth in that finals match! Very enjoyable wrestler to watch
  19. I’m glad someone posted this. I was wondering the same thing and agree with your assessment. Was it a bug? Do they suffer the consequences of dominating an entire region? Not just CP, but several of the ECSS wrestlers just didn’t look as crisp. I was wondering if the journey deep down state took something out of many of the athletes? I am not making any excuses, nor taking anything away from any of the athletes from other semi states. It was clear the ECSS, as a whole, underachieved. A testament to how strong the other semi states are this year. As a whole, makes wrestling in IN better. As a region rat, it stings. CG, BB, and Avon looked so sharp. Razor sharp
