  1. I agree he is a great wrestler, but laying the success of Oregon State at his feet is just not right. The have Zalesky for nine years, Associate Head Coach Steiner for eight years, Assit coach Rogers for seven years, Pascoe for five years and back for another two.
  2. What proven track record does he have as a coach? Great wrestler, but what has he done as a assistant. This is his second year at IU, what of his wrestlers wrestled up above their seat rankings
  3. It starts with the head coach and staff. Good coaches will figure out how to connect with the wrestlers and develop their style along with adding the coaches style on a wrestlers weakest points. Until these institutions show that they can do that it will be hard to keep kids in state. If the coaching philosophy and room was so fluid would have LeBlanc left at the start of the season
  4. it is evident that until IU addresses the coaching situation they will not retain in state talent or out of state talent. The AD must be happy with status quo, because that is what he is getting. It may be time for a culture change at IU. You have one coach who has been there forever and another who is not a proven assistant (even if he was a great wrestler). With the consistent bottom finishes in the big ten and lack of AA, it will be hard for in state wrestlers to not look at other schools
  5. You can call it many things, severe weight cut, lack of depth because they drive guys out, lack of smart recruiting, lack of a full staff. Goldman can barely move if you watch him walk and if you list to the inter mat radio Simmons is spending his time wrestling Walsh and Adam. Not enough skilled coaches in the room to work with pinning combo, riding out and so on. It is all focused on cutting weight, the light weights lost a huge part when Joe went to Princeton.
  6. Got it you are right on, protect the overall team record. When you talk about soft or lack of depth, would that really happen if the staff did not push these the wrestlers to cut to much weight
  7. Seems that scheduling process has worked wonders at IU for many years
  8. We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do. N.Gaimann
  9. How many years has this been said. What's the line up look like next year This is an Indiana site and there are hardly any comments on IU on this forum Open mat forums, seem to have some long time fans with knowledge of the program posting comments
  10. Not trying to bring up old news, but looking at the notes from the last four duals and then looking at who has left the program over last three years. You have to look inside, what the heck is going on, from administration thru coaching
  11. Not sure about the Alton dodging Murphy comment. Just showing where one of the wrestlers are after IU drove them out
  12. Matt can I post this EASTERN WRESTLING LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK Our Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week, for the week ended January 19, 2014, is Quinton Murphy, who is a sophomore at Clarion University. Murphy is a former four-time New York State champion out of Warsaw, who has been competing unattached this season at 149 pounds. He transferred into Clarion from Indiana University. On January 19, 2014, Murphy competed in the Shorty Hitchcock Open Tournament at Millersville University. Murphy won the event, going 5-0 on the day. In his first bout, Murphy tallied a pin in 1:00. In his second bout he scored a 17-2 tech fall in 5:32. In the quarter-finals Murphy racked up a 13-2 major decision. In the semi-finals Murphy decisioned (6-2) Ray Borja of the Naval Academy. In the championship round Mr. Murphy had his arm raised without having to compete, as his potential opponent, Andrew Alton of Penn State University, withdrew from the event after winning his semi-final bout. Congratulations to Quinton Murphy, our EWL Wrestler of the Week. Also, the EWL would like to tip its headgear to Rider head coach Gary Taylor. On January 17, 2014, Rider beat Bloomsburg in a dual meet 20-16 and that win was the 400th college coaching victory for Coach Taylor. “There are only a handful of coaches ever who are above that number in the entire history of college wrestling,” said Rider associate head coach John Hangey. “This is extremely significant. It puts him in a very exclusive club, and he deserves to be there.” Congratulation to Coach Taylor and thank you for all you have done for our great sport. ^^And here is the link to the Clarion Release- http://www.clariongoldeneagles.com/news ... 43949.aspx
  13. Both wrestled after first semester at Midlands, Nebraska and Iowa, not sure it is grades
  14. Why do we think wrestlers leave IU and can sign right with D1 programs if these guys are so bad? Team is fighting hard and battling so not a knock at kids. I still have four leaving at end of season
  15. All good points Matt, but you when you look at line-up, why he was not recruited if he was not, why he chose to go elsewhere if he was recruited with his brother already in program. It would be interesting to know the reason? He wrestled at Midlands at 157, IU needs wrestlers at 157,165 in the coming years. Surprised Simmons did not get him to IU. Matt, would love to here what the as you stated NJ pipeline thinks of his
  16. With all of the positive movement at IU, why did Walsh's brother not come to IU. Looking at his weight they are not overloaded there?
  17. With the midlands and Big ten around the corner what are your thoughts of how IU will perform 125 Joe Duca 133 Chris caton 141 Ethan Raley 149 Roach 157 Taylor Walsh 165 Ryan LeBlanc 174 Nate Jackson 184 Luke Sheridan 197 Garrett Goldman HWT Adam Chalfant
  18. Ok, Matt I followed your request and went away for a while. Where are all the updates, Not much action on the board regarding IU. What are your thoughts on this on why there are no comments on his board aboutmIU? Looking at incoming class why no 197, My offer still stands on how many leave this year, my guesses is at least one leaves for a bigger program
  19. With the lose of Leblanc to Brown, did IU announce and addition to tier staff?
  20. This is a great recruiting class no doubt, but one has to ask the obvious questions because it seems the school and others are just ignoring it. There have been, still are some great boys and wrestlers there. That is why we all should be questioning what is going on at IU. When you lose the amount of kids IU has over the years someone has to start standing up for them Over the last couple years some very talented wrestlers have left IU for other schools. In state studs are not flocking to IU, which is in the Big Ten, toughest wrestling conference. What is IU conference record? How many wrestlers qualified for the NCAA. IU had an Assitant Coach leave in the season. He did not leave to go back to his college or his home town. He left and went to Brown, not a wrestling power. Did he see the writing on the wall as to the programs status. Another assistant has left twice in season to seek to wrestle himself. Who is in the room coaching the boys. When this class gets there next year are they expecting a room of only one coach or like most other D1 programs, 3-5 Look at the roster, they only have at times one wrestler at certain classes. Then look at previous rosters and you will see the same. How do you not have more then one wrestler at certain weights how are they recruiting. When wrestlers leave it is always their fault, they don't buy in to system, can't manage weight, to strict, everyone points out why the kid was no good. He was good enough to be recruited to IU. Maybe he left because there is no structure and the coaches really aren't as involved as they should be. The above points really help support the lack of structure. IU is wrestling this weekend, I am sure the lower weights and middle weights loved having a coach in the room to roll around with. Matt, if the school and administration is turning a blind eye to this where else does one go to voice concerns. Wrestling is being dropped every where all of the time. What happens if more Big Ten teams follow suit to the IU structure.
  21. So with LeBlanc gone on to Brown and Simmons off pursuing his career again. Is Goldman the only coach in the room, is IU not wrestling this weekend
  22. Not sure if you know but DG just wasted your sons red shirt this weekend, why not let him go unattached. Now you know why several studs have left over the years, has nothing to do with grades or anything Else. Coach leaves in season and old style DG wastes redshirts. Kids are there for one reason and DG has no clue. Smaller schools out East and in MAC will capitalize on his mistakes and its should be time for IU to make a change.
