  1. Okay, I am going to bite then. T-Ferg is a phenomenal wrestler who had the very unfortunate freshman year where he couldn't beat Kuhn for a spot. Kuhn was very solid his entire career and was a ?Junior? that year and had experience behind him to keep Ferg off varsity. T-Fergs sophomore year was pretty tragic. He was injured during Sectionals and literally had one good hand for the rest of the year. He is another example of why Indiana needs wrestle backs because he was a state placer in any other Semi-State ticket round. Even with those 2 years of misfortune I have to say he is a top 10 wrestler in the Reitz program as of now. I think barring injury he could win 1 if not 2 titles. The answer will come in the next 4 weeks.
  2. I am not a big fan of this thread or the "what if" and "because of that". There have been many solid wrestlers at all schools that got injured, sick, bad draw etc... Ferg is a fantastic wrestler and one of the best at his weight. Leave it at that. His freshman year he couldn't crack varsity and sophomore year got beat in the ticket round. His legacy isn't even half way done so its premature to put this kind of thread on any subject line. That being said, I think he will become a state titlest before its all said and done. To end this debate realize that Ferg nor his father would even partake in this discussion.
  3. I would hope all sectional and regional participating schools would follow this example. Could you imagine Mater Dei not getting a single kid to state over weather? You have Central with a #1 ranked kid, Reitz with 2 top 10 wrestlers, Mt. Vernon with a #1 ranked wrestler. They all should communicate with each other to ensure weather doesn't end a season or career.
  4. I apologize for bringing a non SIAC name up. I was trying to use a Red and Gold comparison (wrestlemans obvious favorite) and Egli had perhaps his biggest off day of his career on the day he faced his greatest opponent. It happens. Does that negate Konraths victory? No. But if anyone thinks Konrath is looking past Egli for the rest of the year would be an inane thought. Konrath is no "lock" because of one match. Brown and Davis are pretty darn good wrestlers. They both have their work cut out for them and will lose if they wrestle the same way as the first match.
  5. I know everyone is on the Konrath bandwagon (deservingly so because is is one of the states best) but even after the first match with Egli, which was ugly for Egli, I don't automatically assume Konrath is the Semi State Champion. Egli had an off day against Konrath. Both of those guys are likely to exchange wins every time the wrestle.
  6. It was an anticlimactic match. I expect this weekend to be somewhat better for both.
  7. At 120 you have an over achieving in big matches Brown. 132 was a 3-0 match and Jourdan never took a single shot for 6 minutes. Neither are hardly "set in stone" in the wrestling world. 106, 113, 126 & 152 are locks. 138 is going to be the match of the day. The SIAC is one of the toughest in the state this year. Loaded with ranked wrestlers.
  8. The whole Ferg/Konrath thing seems to be getting a ton of unnecessary remarks. Unfortunately I was not there but a good friend texted me that the Ferg vs Konrath match was great but the size difference was major. Apparently Konrath gave Ferg the best competition he has seen of the season but Ferg was never in serious trouble for the first 2 periods. In the 3rd with about 30 seconds left they got stood back up over a potentially dangerous position. Konrath then hit a great fireman's right off the whistle to score 4 making it a 9-5 final. Konrath is perhaps the greatest warrior pound for pound than any other kid in Indiana and almost pulled off a great comeback. Both kids showed more class than everyone on this blog from what I understand. For anyone to tarnish what those two did on the mat with words on here is disgusting. As far as Willis from Central I also heard Reitz caught them by surprise giving the forfeit at 113 and bumping Ferg to 120. Ferg pins Willis in first minute.
  9. Johnson is a great wrestler. He didn't become a state qualifier and ranked wrestler by pinning everyone in 30 seconds. He did it by winning matches against solid opponents. Tonights match showed why he is ranked. He took a solid wrestler and beat him without getting fancy and or in trouble. Reitz 120 did a good job of getting in on shots but didn't have the capabilities to finish. The 170 match was definitely the most exciting match. That spladle was flawless. From the look of Reitz's JV team they are not a threat to reload anytime soon. They only had a handful of wrestlers. The varsity is full of inexperienced freshman. Mater Dei looks great from tip to bottom even with several JV wrestlers filling in and winning. I wish I could have seen Lee wrestle tonight but his back up did a good job. Great night of wrestling. Should be a great SIAC tournament.
  10. This years conference is jammed packed full of Semi State and State ranked wrestlers and has more than its fair share of top 10 wrestlers for one conference. Surprisingly there is only 1 Memorial wrestler ranked in the top 4 at Semi State and that's Brown @195. Here are some of the top wrestlers. Add anyone that I missed. 106 Egli MD (#2 SS - #4 State) 113 Ferguson RH (#2 SS - #4 State) & Luigs MD (#3 SS -#12 State) 120 Johnson MD (#3 SS - #13 State) & Brown CA (#4 SS - #15 State) 126 Lee MD (#1 SS - #2 State - #20 Nationally) 132 Davis RH (#2 SS - #4 State) & Jourdan MD (#4 SS #10 State) *EVV SS has 4 top 10 wrestlers in this weight class 138 Seng MD (#3 SS - #9 State) & Schnell CA (#5 SS - #11 State) *another loaded SS weight class 145 Pierre MD (#2 SS - #6 State) & Riegel RH (HM SS - #16 State) 152 Kelly CE (#1 SS - #1 State) & Weinzapfel MD (#5 SS – HM State) 160 Kemper CE (#2 SS - #9 State) & Forzley MD (#5 SS - #11 State) *EVV SS has 4 top 10 wrestlers in this weight class 182 Bassemier MD (#5 SS - #11 State) 195 Brown EM (#4 SS - #14 State) 220 Kyles HA (#4 SS – HM State)
  11. Reitz 120 and 145 are very scrappy and will make it exciting. Neither of them are in awe of rankings or the name on the singlets. Do I think they will win? No. Will they make Johnson and Pierre work for the win? Yes. Reitz and Mater Dei kids always step up for one another and sometimes great matches come from unlikely opponents. That's all I am saying. Reitz will undoubtedly lose this dual. No doubt.
  12. Reitz will compete at 120, 145, 152, 160 and 170 as well. Not sure that they win those matches but they will make it exciting. I got Reitz 113 by pin and Reitz 132 by major.
  13. Very interesting post! Thank you for taking the time to give a quick synopsis of the history between these two schools. One thing that most people outside wrestling don't realize is that when Reitz and Mater Dei are not competing against each other they are each others biggest supporters. Mater Dei made a fantastic run for a team state title and Reitz fans and wrestlers were watching their Hill Classic while simultaneously watching trackwrestling rooting on the Wildcats. Thursday will be another exciting night of wrestling.
  14. Say What?

    113

Ferg was up 5 points and then pinned him. It was a great win. He has looked great all year and has wrestled better competition this year. Reitz has definitely lost some kids in the room over the last 3 years but there are still quality kids left.
  15. He looks much healthier this year. I don't think by the looks of him getting so tall he could even make 126 this year even if he wanted to. He struggled last year in the post season just making weight. The first time I saw him this season I couldn't get over how tall he is. 132 at Evansville semi state is going to be bruising. 6 or 7 ranked wrestlers fighting for 4 spots to Bankers. Davis is a legitimate contender to win semi state and set himself up for a good run at a title at state.
  16. I call shenanigans on the pull ups. The only person that could pull that off is the one person who pulled off no handed push ups, Chuck Norris. Clay Leek does not equal Chuck Norris. He might give Clint Eastwood a run but that's even doubtful.
  17. Wilson is a defending state champion. He isn't having trouble making 126 and has a chance of a lifetime by beating Lee or Micic for a title. I cannot imagine him bumping up a weight class. I still have to go with Lee as the favorite out of them all. Davis is a great wrestler but is out of his league against Wilson and Lee. He only wrestles Micic well because he has so much history against him. I wouldn't automatically give any of those guys a title at 132 should they decide to avoid one another. 132 isn't as stacked but there are a few in the top 10 that were a few points away from defeating one or two of those guys in the last few years. Indiana wrestling is solid right now. Hard to believe I am saying this but I actually pick Wilson over Micic too. I would rank them 1. Lee 2. Wilson 3. Micic 4.Davis
  18. Predictions for individual champions? Everyone knows Mater Dei runs away with the team title.
  19. One month (approximately) from Tournament time and there is little talk about this Sectional. Is there anyone with projections for individual and team champions?
  20. Reitz was at the Madison, Indiana tournament and had 3 undefeated wrestlers at 113, 132 and 152.
  21. You would take Red over Lee? I watched the Red/Smith final last year and have seen Lee wrestle some monsters at big tournaments and although Red is a great wrestler who deserves a ton of respect...he isn't on the same level as Lee. I know Lee wrestled 8 high school state champions in one tournament (as an 8th grader) and never gave up a single point. Not a point. Until you see Lee wrestle its hard to comprehend just how great a wrestler he is. Red is a stud in his own respect and weight. It would be a fun match if they wrestled but it wouldn't go Reds way.
  22. Mater Dei is down? Indiana is down? SIAC is down? Man...what is going to happen when all those "flat out bad" kids reach the podium at Bankers? There are multiple future state placers from several SIAC schools.
