  1. Heard some kids really stepped it up! Sorry I missed it.
  2. Not that it matters at all, but this alignment still makes no sense to me. 31. Castle (10) Boonville, Castle, Evansville Bosse, Evansville Harrison, Evansville Memorial, Evansville Reitz, Heritage Hills, Mt. Vernon, South Spencer, Tell City. 32. Evansville Central (10) Evansville Central, Evansville Mater Dei, Evansville North, Gibson Southern, North Posey, Pike Central, Princeton, Tecumseh, Vincennes Lincoln, Wood Memorial.
  3. 1. Mater Dei 2. Memorial 3. Reitz 4. Castle 5. Central 6. North 7. Harrison 8. Bosse Memorial has a more complete team top to bottom, Better chances in wrestle backs especially in the upper weights. 4 and 5 can flip, depending on the over all team performance and not just the studs.
  4. So to sum this all up, Luke Welch would have been heading into the second period with a minimum of a 4 - 0 lead if the pin wasn't called (Coach Taylor was correct in approaching the table if his explanation is near accurate) and that was some how supposed to have been frustrating to a young man with the amount of match time Welch has logged?
  5. I have to agree. I thought Central might take it to Castle. As for the Reitz/Castle dual. Great win for Reitz, but from a coaching stand point I think you have to look a the fact you had a 20 - 6 lead through the bottom five weight classes and ended up winning by 7(?). Isn't Castle giving a couple of forfeits in the upper weights?
  6. I think the point is it becomes a "Win or go home" proposition and that sometimes adds a spark to a kid who no one saw coming.
  7. The point being this... Reitz has 5 tough kids in this weight range. BUT there are 5 returning state qualifiers in the same weight ranges, and over all they have to be given the nod until proven otherwise. "Dominant" is relative to the competition you face. I once had a young man start off his season with a record of 13 - 0, all 13 wins were forfeits. Dumb luck just put him in a weight class that was very poorly represented on our competitions rosters.
  8. My point was it could benefit your team if you are going against a team that is on par with your squad in most weight classes. If you have very solid kids in Classes 1 -4 with a good JV in a couple of the classes and your opponent is solid in 1 -4 and marginal in 5, then the bump may work. This is not the case with Mater Dei from the Reitz perspective. Not sure who MD has at 132, but you would most likely be sending Johns into a match that decreases his odds in winning, as well as possibly sacrificing 120 where you currently have a good shot of winning if left alone. As it stands now, The most likely wins for Reitz are from 106 - 126. Nothing is set in stone, but taking your best chances at winning and stretching to possibly win at 132 and 138 are not exactly strong bets. Not degrading the kids. Reitz will come out and perform I am sure. But MD's line up is tough through the middle and 285. I think it's a dual that you wrestle the guys you know are going to perform at the weights you have seen them in all year. Keeping in mind that Conference is right around the corner also, and seeding there is important there for their outcome.
  9. Life's Lessons are taught every second you wrestle. For over 30 decades I watched young men (and now young ladies) learn that life is what it is and it is up to each of us to be responsible for our actions, or inaction. I saw some reach the highest point on the map for themselves, and others stumble right out of the gate, but each and everyone of them were so much more incredibly well equipped for what life after wrestling would throw at them.
  10. So you are saying you would bump the kids that have a shot at winning their matches, at their normal weight classes, and bump them up into a situation where they are not only giving weight, but wrestling a program like Mater Dei? And then replacing them with kids, who might be tough but haven't broken the line up in your room, to face kids who are starters in Mater Dei's room? The smart play is to wrestle what you brung...but that was my way of thinking all the years I coached.
  11. MD wins 138 - 285 (I know they are forfieting a couple, but don't remember which - sorry) and 126. Let's call it 9 - 5 MD (Once again FF's come into play so I am not sure)
  12. Sectional or SIAC I have to agree with you. If this year is anything like the Conference meets I have seen, it will be a slug out at every weight class! I hope that all the kids are healthy and eligible to compete! Good luck to everyone!
  13. I am curious about 126 in this sectional. Welch is the odds on winner, but there is a young man from Boonville that is going to surprise some people!
  14. Kuhn is a solid wrestler no doubt. But over looking Brown is a HUGE mistake.
  15. 113 is Castle's to lose. Not saying it can't happen, but realistically speaking. I see the teams coming down to MD, Me, CE in the top 3 spots. MD wins it in wrestle backs where most tourneys are won. No dog in the fight, but not wearing rose colored glasses either. I hope everyone is healthy and ready to go when the time comes.
  16. I am sure you can piece together some of the info from the different posts here. They are a very solid team from what I have seen.
  17. Anything that gets more kids onto a mat and into a wrestling room is nothing short of wonderful for the sport.
  18. As basic as the sport is, a reasonable person would believe that it is just that simple. But for some reason certain parents just refuse to believe their child is NOT the one chosen. I coached a young man who was a two time state champion for us. Great kid and grew up to be a wonderful father. At the end of my career I had the pleasure of coaching his son. I felt so bad for this kid because it was the opposite of this sort of issue. The young man's mom and dad just wanted him to enjoy the sport and learn from it. Other parents in the stand were vicious about why the son was not on the varsity, since his father was so accomplished. The other parents were incredibly nasty about it and thought it was their job to remind everyone within ear shot that this youngster wasn't nearly as good as his dad had been and how it must have been weak genetics on the boys mother's side (nothing could be further from the truth). The father and the son handled this with the class and dignity of true champions. But I was so glad to see that group of parents go!
  19. The Evansville Central Sectional is a Monument to Getting a First Round Bye in the State Tourney. There will be a few tough matches, but who is going to advance is pretty much clear. Maybe some drama in a couple of classes.
  20. I don't think so. It was mentioned Mason had let the team due to football injuries.
  21. The name probably changes every year, but the parent and the kids remain the same (sort).
  22. Chances are Timmy Sr was a basketball bench warmer in school. They never seem to understand out sport at all.
  23. I fell your pain. When I coached many years ago it was the same, but different. In Wisconsin in the 70's we had a group of parents that remembered what it was like to have to work for things. Nothing was given to them, they earned it through hard work and effort. Even then it was a sure thing. Every coach has their detractors. Conspiracy theorists are nothing new. Assumed agendas, some that are boarder line slander, and out right crazy talk are all apart of coaching to one extent or another. It was one of the toughest things I had to contend with in the years I coached. The situation you described is not as unusual as you may want to think. Most coaches could write their own book on stupid things parents say to them. If Timmy Sr insisted on pushing it, I would employ an old tactic I was given by one of my coaches decades ago. I would tell the parent that I would wrestle to two boys off - IF Timmy Sr could be there to watch - AND the loser drops to fill the open spot in the line up. If Sr agrees then you set it up and make it happen. Timmy Jr will get pasted, and end up cutting that 3 pounds of baby fat he likely could stand to lose anyway. One word of caution! Mrs Timmy Sr will most likely come knocking on your door once she finds out about what is going on! You are on your own with her...
