Mishawaka earns its 13 straight NIC championship
January 21, 2011By Greg Humnicky of Northern Indiana Conference
Mishawaka will put their 96 NIC match win streak on the line this Thursday, Jan 20 and will seek its 13th straight NIC wrestling championship. Penn won their last title in 1997-98 when they ran the table with an 8-0 mark that year. Mishawaka is unbeaten in the NIC since the beginning of the 1998-99 season.
SB Clay has a 6-1 NIC mark and will visit Mishawaka (7-0) Thursday night to decide the championship. Penn has a 6-1 record, losing to Mishawaka back in December by a score of 30-22. SB Riley looks to finish with a 5-3 NIC record when they host St. Joseph's on Thursday. SB Adams travels to Marian and Penn travels to SB Washington to complete the NIC schedule. Elkhart Central has the bye and has finished with a 4-4 league mark.
A Clay win at Mishawaka and a Penn win at Washington would create a three-way NIC championship.
