Wrestling Home HEADLINES Purdue Wrestling Welcomes Alumni For Indiana State Finals College Done Different Feb. 17, 2010 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling coaching staff has reserved Suite 56 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the 72nd Annual Indiana High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships, this Friday and Saturday, and invites all Boilermaker alumni to join them for the weekend. This will be the first alumni reunion held by the Boilermakers at the state meet, but Purdue head coach and Boilermaker wrestling alum Scott Hinkel hopes to make this an annual event. "It's a great opportunity for all of us to gather around the sport we love, and see some of the future members of our team," he said. "An impressive turnout will allow us to keep doing this, and do it bigger and better in the future." Those in attendance this weekend will have an opportunity to see several future Boilermakers in action as five of Purdue's 2010 signees have qualified for the state finals. Brandon Nelson of Lawrence North High School qualified at 119 pounds and heads into the weekend at 40-1, while Francisco Porras of Hobart High School has his sights on the 140-pound state title at 38-1 this season. Alex Surma is 43-3 at 145 pounds for Munster High School, while Mishawaka senior Ryan Stahl takes his 43-3 mark into action at 152 pounds. Nearby Delphi High School product Braden Atwood will put his flawless 45-0 mark on the line as well this weekend, competing at 189 pounds. While the suite will be open to all Purdue alumni throughout the event on Friday and Saturday, the Boilermakers will host a reception with snacks and refreshments on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., in anticipation of the state championship matches. Those in who are able to stop by will be encouraged to sign in and represent the Purdue alumni at the event. Friday's action is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., while Saturday will start at 9:30 a.m., with the quarterfinals, followed immediately by the semifinals. The consolation championships will kick off the evening action at 5 p.m. with the finals scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $8 per session or $20 for an all-session pass and can be purchased on the day of the event at Conseco Fieldhouse.
