Following the loss of the Phillipe Nover - out due to back spasms vs. Sam Stout contest, the start of tonight's card has been delayed slightly. Action should begin shortly.

 

RYAN JENSEN VS. RYAN STEINBEISS

 

Round 1 - A quick touch of gloves gets the evening's first bout underway. Referee Gary Ritter overseeing the action. Steinbeiss holds the center of the cage early and opens with two jabs that miss. Patient start. Jensen misses with a right, then eats a right from Steinbeiss. Tentative opening minute. Jensen lands a jab, and Steinbeiss answers. Steinbeiss lands a left hand, then a kick to the body. A flurry follows, but Jensen boucnes off the cage and scores a takedown. Steinbeiss pulls half-guard. Jensen tries to work out, but Steinbeiss holds tight with his legs. Jensen looks briefly for a kimura, but it's not there. Halfway through the opening round, and Steinbeiss gains full guard. Jensen works in a few left hands from top. Steinbeiss works his legs high, but Jensen stacks him up. Jensen lands a few more shots from the top, then allows Steinbeiss to scramble up. Jensen secures a guillotine and drops to guard. Ritter watches the action closely, and after a few brief seconds calls a halt to the bout. Steinbeiss pops up, adamant that he was giving a "thumbs up" signal, not giving up. Ritter argues he thought the arm was going limp in the hold, and the crowd boos the decision when replays are shown. Ryan Jensen def. Steve Steinbeiss via technical submission (guillotine choke) - Round 1, 3:56.

 

BROCK LARSON VS. MIKE PIERCE

 

Round 1 - A touch of gloves starts the action. Pierce shoots in early, but Larson sprawls with his back to the cage. Pierce persists, and he throws a few knees and footstomps inside. Pierce finally earns the takedown, but Larson immediately stands back up. Pierce keeps the lock and elevates Larson, slamming him down. Larson works back to his knees, then his feet, but Pierce will not release the hld and dumps Larson back to the floor. Larson rolls to his right, then works to his knees with his back against the cage. Pierce throws some inside knees as Larson kneels and dumps Larson again to the floor. Larson again rolls to his right and looks for a kimura, but Pierce's left arm is tucked tight. Two minutes remain, and the crowd is restless. Pierce's smothering style earning him points, but not crowd favor. Referee Tom Jones sees just enough action to keep the fight where it is. Larson lets go of the kimura, scrambles to his feet and throws a flurry of punches that mostly miss. Larson throws another flurry, but Pierce backs away. A left hand scores, and another flurry follows as time expires. Good finish by Larson, but Pierce earns the round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.

 

Round 2 - Larson throws a jab, but Pierce immediately closes the distance again. Larson sprawls out and stands with his back to the cage. The pair trades knees inside, then Pierce backs away with a punch on the exit. Pierce throws a jab, but eats a counter. Pierce scores with a inside leg kick. A quick clinch causes a scramble, and Pierce eventually wrestles Larson to the floor. Larson sits with his back against the cage, and he tries to stand halfway through the round. Pierce stays close and sucks up the legs to put Larson back on the canvas. Larson tries again to stand, but Pierce keeps his arms locked around the legs and pulls i back to the floor. Larson briefly latches on to a kimura, but Pierce pulls away. Larson stays on his back, and Pierce briefly kicks his downed opponent before engaging on the floor. Pierce throws a few right hands to the body as time winds down. It's another round for Pierce on the MMAjunkie.com cards, but the crowd boos at the process.

 

Round 3 - A touch of gloves opens the final frame. Larson unleashes his hands, and a few stun Pierce as he moves backward. This time it's Larson controlling the clinch, and Pierce is backed against the cage. Pierce works the over-under and circles off the cage. It's a familiar position. Larson throws a few knees inside, and Pierce answers with more footstomps. Two minutes in, and Larson may be running out of time. Larson looks to the left arm for a standing kimura, but Pierce feels the advance and elevates his opponent, dumping him to the floor. Larson holds half-guard underneath. Two minutes remain. Larson works to full guard, then to his knees. Pierce covers him like a wet blanket, and as Larson tries to stand he's dumped back to the floor. Larson tries again to work back to his feet, but ends up on his tail. Crowd calls for a stand-up. Larson tries to do it on his own but winds up slammed again to the floor. A fan's cry of "You can cuddle at home" earns a laugh from the crowd. Time runs out on Larson. Both fighters looks frustrated as they return to their corners, and the crowd boos a final time. MMAjunkie.com sees it as a clean sweep for Pierce, and all three judges agree. Mike Pierce def. Brock Larson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

 

JUSTIN BUCHHOLZ VS. JEREMY STEPHENS

 

Round 1 - A confusing touch of gloves. Buchholz throws a right kick that Stephens catches and counters with straight rights. Buchholz tries it again, though Stephens counters again. Buchholz lands his own big shot with his hands, and the two are off to a rousing start. Things settle a bit one minute in. Stephens lands a low kick. Buchholz scores with two consecutive 1-2's, then a front kick, then a slapping outside low kick. Stephens leaps in with a knee that buckles Buchholz. A series of rapid-fire punches put him all the way to the floor. Stephens tries a guillotine from the front headlock position but releases. Buchholz scrambles up, and we're just two minutes in. The pair trade kicks. Buchholz tries a series of right hands, but Stephens answers with his own. Stephens traps Buchholz against the cage, and a ferocious attack of punches and knees is unleashed. Buchholz weathers much of it, but the onslaught is relentless. Buchholz finally drops, and Stephens pounces. A few more shots follow on the ground, and referee Kevin Nix calls a halt to the action to check a large cut over Buchholz's right eye. The ringside physician calls a quick halt to the contest, and Buchholz is dejected. UFC president Dana White is livid at cageside, but a replay shows a deep, deep gash. Exciting fight that unfortunately ended early. Jeremy Stephens def. Justin Buchholz via TKO (doctor's stoppage - cut) - Round 1, 3:23.

 

C.B. DOLLAWAY VS. JAY SILVA

 

Round 1 - UFC newcomer Silva, not lacking confidence, walks to the cage with a Skeletor mask. Referee Leon Roberts starts the action, and Silva chases Dollaway with his hands down. Dollaway throws a few slapping kicks, and after a high kick misses, Silva charges in. The blows mostly miss, and Dollaway shoots off the cage with a successful takedown attempt. Silva works hard to maintain half-guard as Dollaway tries to advance. Silva rolls out, and is briefly in a guillotine attempt. Dollaway releases and looks to strike. Dollaway scores with a kick to the body, then he shoots in again. It's successful, but he works only briefly from Silva's guard before leaping back to his feet. Dollaway continues to throw kicks on the feet, then he shoots in with a double. Silva sprawls, but Dollaway simply overpowers him to the floor. Silva works a closed guard, though his head is trapped against the cage. One minute remains. The closed guard keeps Silva safe, but there is little for him to offer on offense. Dollaway postures, landing a few short blows before backing away. Silva stands and rushes in with a few crisp punches and a leapin kick, but he is quickly dumped to the floor as time expires. MMAjunkie.com sees it clearly for Dollaway, 10-9.

 

Round 2 - Silva is breathing heavily as the second frame opens. Silva leaps in with a right hand, though Dollaway counters with a big kick to the body that echoes throughout the arena and earns a smile from "The Doberman." Silva lands his own flurry, and Dollaway is in trouble. Silva pounces, but Dollaway weathering the storm. Dollaway clinches and works to top psoition as Silva falls to the floor. Silva looks for a kimura from the bottom. Dollaway's left arm is extended, but he's able to maintain control. Dollaway moves to mount, and Silva rolls. With two minutes remaining, Dollaway works from the back. Dollaway looks for the rear-naked choke. Silva tries to turn into it, and he escapes once before falling back into the hold. Dollaway has a body triangle securely fastened and his right arm around Silva's chin. Silva tries to remain calm and keep his chin tucked. Dollaway adjusts and squeezes, but Silva works free. Dollaway maintains the back position and continues to look for the choke as time winds down to less than one minute. Silva looks calm on the floor, turning to his corner for instruction. Dollaway tries again for the choke, and winds up in mount as Silva tries to escape. Dollaway opens up with punches as time expires. Silva feeling the love from the crowd and waves his hands for more as he returns to his corner. Entertaining round that MMAjunkie.com sees for Dollaway, 10-9.

 

Round 3 - Silva opens with a flurry that lands. Dollaway instinctively shoots in, eating a knee in the process. Silva tries to take Dollaway's back, but Dollaway wrestles free, scrambling into Silva's open guard. Silva returns to the kimura, and Dollaway's right arm is in trouble. Silva can't finish the move, and Dollaway drops in a few knees before passing to mount two minutes into the round. Silva scrambles free and winds up in side control, landing a right hand as he pushes into the position. Dollaway quickly gains half-gaurd,a dn Silva wraps his left arm around Dollaway's neck. There's no leverage, and Silva backs away, forcing Dollaway to stand. Dollaway tries a lazy kick, and Silva lands a leaping knee. Dollaway again shoots in and pushes Silva to his back. Silva rolls to stand, but Dollaway rolls with him and maintains a front headlock. Dollaway pushes forward into mount, and he'll finish the fight there. Very entertaining fight. Dollaway is exhausted, though he should have earned the win despit dropping the final frame. MMAjunkie.com sees it 29-28 for Dollaway. All three judges agree. C.B. Dollaway def. Jay Silva via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

 

An exhausted Dollaway is helped from the cage, while Silva receives a huge ovation from the crowd as he leaves under his own power. While Silva had trouble defending the takedown, the crowd appreciated the effort.

 

MIKE PYLE VS. CHRIS WILSON

 

Round 1 - Referee Dan Miragliotta starts the action. After a brief feel-out process, Wilson shoots in, pressing Pyle to the cage. Nothing there, and Wilson backs away. Wilson slips on a kick, but Pyle can't reach him. Both miss with flashy spinning kicks. Jabs are traded, and Pyle hoots in successfully. Wilson works an open guard from the floor two minute into the round. Pyle postures and works punches to the body, and Wilson tries to keep him close with a closed guard. Wilson briefly controls the left arm, looking for a triangle. Pyle stands, avoids upkicks and falls back into Wilson's guard. Wilson rolls to his right, but Pyle prevents any attack. One minute remains, and the two are at a stalemate. Pyle lands a few more punches as time winds down. Wilson returns to his feet, and the round ends in a clinch. MMAjunkie.com sees it for Pyle, 10-9.

 

Round 2 - Pyle opens the second with a low kick. Wilson answers and mixes in a few punches as well. Wilson clinches up and pushes Pyle to the cage, but he spins free, ducks under a punch and brings Wilson down with a double-leg. Wilson pulls full guard and after looking for a submission attempt tries to pull away. Pyle stays on his opponent and trips him back to the floor. Wilson maintains half-guard halfway through the round. Wilson is on his right side, but his back is against the cage, giving him few options. He is able to gain full guard, though his head is against the cage. Wilson rolls into a slick armbar that briefly looks like trouble. Pyle pulls free of the hold and winds up back in top position. Miragliotta has seen enough and stands the two for the final minute-plus. The two come together in the center of the cage, and Pyle looks for an anaconds choke. It's not there, and he releases. Wilson unleashes a flurry as time einds down, and Pyle simply absorbs the shots to the body. Pyle tries for a takedown, but he doesn't have the energy he did early in the fight. It's a closer round, but MMAjunkie.com sees it for Pyle, 10-9.

 

Round 3 - Wilson shoots in immediately, again pushing Pyle to the cage. Wilson releases, and the pair trade missed jabs. Wilson throws a low kick and Pyle answers with an overhand. Wilson narrowly misses with a high kick, then spins Pyle with a low kick. Pyle leaps in with a left hand. Slow pace two minutes in earns some jeers from the crowd. Pyle tries to attack with his hands, but Wilson shoots in. Pyle sinks his left hand around Wilson's neck as he falls, securing the guillotine. Pyle squeezes, the effort visible on his face, and Wilson is forced to tap. Mike Pyle def. Chris Wilson via submission (guillotine choke) - Round 3, 2:15.

 

STEVE CANTWELL VS. BRIAN STANN

 

Round 1 - After a touch of gloves, Cantwell opens with a probing leg kick. Stann delivers a few straight punches. Stann bouncing as he circles to his right. Cantwell delivers a kick to the body. One minute passes as the two search for openings. Stann finds one then moves away. Cantwell again with the low kick, then a jab. Stann answers with a flurry. Stann still circling right as Cantwell holds the center. Cantwell sneaks in a left, but Stann answers with a right. Even fight halfway through the opening round, but fireworks appear to be on the way. Stann thins about a takedown but backs away. Stann lands a nice right hand as Cantwell advances in. Stann timing Cantwell's advances well. Stann lands a three-punch flurry but eats a stiff counter when he tries again. Cantwell just misses with a right hand. Round up for grabs in final seconds. Cantwell lands a kick at the end, then just misses a switch kick. Close, close round, but MMAjunkie.com sees it for Cantwell, 10-9, based on aggression.

 

Round 2 - Cantwell again pushes forward. Stann lands a nice low kick. Stann throws another three-punch flurry. A low kick from Stann lands illegally, but Cantwell restarts quickly. Cantwell lands a jab, but Stann moves away before he can follow. Cantwell kicks to the body, Stann returns high. Cantwell stalking as Stann looks to counter. Cantwell chases with jabs, then lands a right to the gut. Stann lands a low kick, Cantwell answers high. Stann misses a combo. Cantwell shows his frustration as Stann continues to move away. Cantwell drops his hands to entice Stann to move forward. One minute remains. Still very, very little betwen the two. The crowd boos Stann's elusive tactics, and Cantwell yells for him to "Come on." The two briefly tie up, but back away. Cantwell just misses a stiff Superman punch. Cantwell tries a takedown attempt as time expires. Another close round, but MMAjunkie.com gives the nod to Cantwell based on his attacking style.

 

Round 3 - Stann again circling away. Cantwell stalking. Cantwell snaps out a high kick. Stann looking for the big counter blow, but Cantwell won't be caught. Neither fighter has hurt the other. Cantwell delivers a right hand. Stann throws a low kick. Cantwell,bobs, weaves and deliver an overhand right, but Stann circles away. Halfway through the final round, and the promised fireworks appear to be duds. Cantwell lands a jab, but Stann answers with a low kick. A brief clinch is abandoned. Stann again considers the takedown but backs away. Jabs are traded as the crowd boos. Cantwell grabs Stann, but he moves away. Thirty seconds remain. Stann stumbles on a low kick. Very little between the two, and in an ode to Stann Dupp, MMAjunkie.com calls it a 10-10 final frame, awarding the win to Cantwell, 30-28. The cageside judges see it completely different, and it's difficult to argue either way. Brian Stann def. Steve Cantwell via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 39-28).

TIM CREDEUR VS. NATE QUARRY

 

Round 1 - Referee Herb Dean starts the evening's first televised bout. Credeur misses with a leaping elbow. Credeur keeps pawing strikes as Quarry offers counter rights. Credeur throws out a kick to the body, but eats a right. Quarry ducks under a flurry and scores with the counter. Credeur tries again with the kick to the body. Credeur throws a right hand that misses. Credeur staying more active as Quarry looks to time the counter. Both flurry, though little scores. Quarry lands a right hand as he falls away. Credeur moves forward behind a series of punches with two minutes remaining. Credeur lands with a jab. Credeur just misses with a knee and backs away. Quarry is wobbled by a hot, and Credeur pounces. Credeur wraps his right arm tightly around the chin of Quarry, but he can't secure the hold. Quarry scrambles free and returns to his feet with a bloody nose and a roar from the crowd. Creduer flurries as time winds down. Quarry answers, but his opponent has earned the round, 10-9.

 

Round 2 - Ice spilled in Credeur's corner delays the start of the second. It's cleared, and we're underway. Quarry comes out hyper-aggressive, and the two trade toe to tow. Credeur is dropped, and Quarry pounces. Vicious attack from the top brings the crowd to life. Credeur survived and pulls guard. Creduer tries to spin out for an armbar, but Quarry avoids, stands, and delivers more punches as he falls back into his opponent's guard. Quarry lands a few solid right hands from top. Dean watches intently, but Creduer is OK. Two minutes in. Credeur tries to scramble up, but Quarry keeps the pressure on. Quarry tries to stand and pass. Credeur again rolls for an armbar, but it's not there. Both fighters look tired, but Quarry maintains pressure from the top. Creduer again rolls for an arm. Quarry's attack has slowed, but he shows no signs of relenting his top position. Less than a minute, and while Credeur surviving, he's shown little in the way of offense. The pair trade punches on the ground as time expires, and the entertaining fight will be even into the final frame.

 

Round 3 - Quarry bounces as the third opens. A quick touch of gloves starts the action. Credeur jabs. Credeur moves forward begins a rapid flurry, but Quarry stands in the pocket and drops him with a stiff right. Credeur quickly recovers as Quarry follows to the floor. Credeur scrambles and stands, and the two stand toe-to-toe. Credeur answering with gutsy volume, Quarry scoring with power. Credeur drops on more of a push than a punch. It's a "Rocky" scene in the octagon. Credeur exhausted on his back. Quarry passes to half-mount, abut Credeur shoots for a leg lock. Quarry rolls free, back to top position to deliver more damage. Credeur closes the guard, then tries to look for anything to secure. Quarry stays out of the holds, standing before returning to Credeur's guard. With a half-minute remaining, Dean wants a restart. Quarry delivers a right, and Credeur slips on a high kick. The two trade until the final horn, then embrace in the center. Entertaining fight that immediately becomes the favorite for "Fight of the Night." MMAjunkie.com awards it to a bruised Quarry, 29-28.

 

CARLOS CONDIT VS. JAKE ELLENBERGER

 

Round 1 - Ellenberger catches Condit's opening kick and throws him to the floor as he lands a right hand. Condit recovers and pulls guard, though Ellenberger keeps the pressure on as he pushes Condit to the cage. Condit active underneath, looking to work his long legs up Ellenberger's body. Noting there, and Condit scrambles and stands. Ellenberger nearly scores again with a few wild shots, but Condit backs away and resets. Condit throws another kick to the body, but Ellenberger again answers with a huge right hand. Condit is dropped, and Ellenberger follows. Condit somehow survives the flurry, returns to his feet and lands a solid knee, but Ellenberger again drops his opponent. Condit briefly enjoys top position, but as the pair return tot heir feet, Ellenberger tries for a guillotine. It's not tight enough, and he loses the hold as he rolls. Condit pulls guard, throwing elbows from the bottom. Condit stands, but Ellenberger scores with a slapping right high kick to the face. Condit's face bloodied, and he slips on a missed knee. Condit shoots in, but Ellenberger sprawls. Ellenberger throws another bomb as time expires. Great round, and MMAjunkie.com awards it to Ellenberger, 10-9. A case could be made for 10-8.

 

Round 2 - Both fighters miss early with attacks, and Condit takes the center of the cage. Ellenberger ducks under a high kick, and eventually shoots in. Condit hits the floor, and Ellenberger sets up in top position. Condit's head against the cage. Condit tries to roll, looking for a kimura. He works both sides, but nothing's there. Ellenberger keeps himself tightly against his opponent, sneaking in a few left hands and short elbows. Condit stands briefly, but he winds up back underneath Ellenberger when a guillotine misses. Condit works in a kimura on Ellenberger's left arm, using the hold to seep to top position when he can't lock it in. Condit in mount, but Ellenberger's escapes on a scramble. One minute remains. Ellenberger delivers a bit of ground and pound, but eventually backs away. The bell sounds, and MMAjunkie.com sees the back and forth round for Ellenberger in a close one, 10-9.

 

Round 3 - Both miss with early jabs. The two clinch in a slick transition off of a punching exchange, though Ellenberger winds up in top position as they swing to the floor. Condit sets up a closed guard. Ellenberger delivers a bit of damage from the top, then stands. Condit moves in and eats a high kick. The pair clinches, and Ellenberger tries for a guillotine. Condit escapes, leaving him in top position two minutes in. Condit lands a few punches, and Ellenberger is trapped against the fence. Condit lands a few nice blows, and Ellenberger rolls to avoid damage. Condit delivers punishment from the mount though Ellenberger is able to work free on a scramble. Ellenberger briefly maintains top position, then stands. Ellenberger shoots in and Condit sprawls effectively, landing elbows from side control before rolling to back position. He flattens Ellenberger, but there's not enough time to sink in the choke. The round is clearly Condit's, and the final decision will come down to the scoring of the second frame. MMAjunkie.com sees it for Ellenberger, 29-28. Carlos Condit def. Jake Ellenberger via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

 

Man I really enjoyed that fight.

 

ROGER HUERTA VS. GRAY MAYNARD

 

Round 1 - Referee Dan Miragliotta starts the action, and the pair sets up to strike. After a few misses from Huerta, Maynard moves in to clinch. He backs away and appears comfortable boxing. Huerta misses on a low kick, but Maynard declines to rush in. Both trade punches in a flurry. Two minutes in, and not much action yet. Maynard scores with a right hand that knocks Huerta off-balance. Maynard circling. Huerta throws another low kick, then high. Maynard lands a left hand and backs away. Maynard scores with a right hand. Maynard moving well, making good on his promise to make Hierta chase. Huerta scores in a quick flurry, and Maynard slides away. Maynard yet to try a takedown. Maynard shoots in, Huerta sprawls. Maynard continues the push and lands a knee inside. Huerta backs away and they stare at each other at the bell. Close round, but MMAjunkie.com awards it to Huerta, 10-9.

 

Round 2 - Huerta opens as the aggressor. Maynard seems willing to brawl, but the exchange is halted. Maynard lands a left and charges in. Huerta scoring with low kicks. Maynard scores in an exchange. Two minutes in, and the offense coming in spurts. Both fighters patient. Maynard scores with a right hand over Huerta's kick. Huerta stalks with a series of punches. Maynard continuing to move defensively, though he scores a flash knockdown on a jab. Huerta lands a combo, but Maynard backs away. Huerta chasing with punches, though Maynard avoiding well. Huerta catches a knee but can't capitalize. Boxing stalemate as Maynard still refuses to shoot. Little between the two, but Maynard seems to have done enough to take the second round based on the damage caused on a few exchanges, 10-9.

 

Round 3 - Maynard still moving away well. Huerta chases again, but Maynard scores with a jab. Finally a takedown from Maynard. Huerta sits up with his back to the cage. Maynard smothers him against the cage, and keeps a body lock as Huerta tries to scramble up. Halfway through the round, and Huerta stands. Maynard switches from the back to the legs and earns another takedown. Huerta wings punches for his back when space allows. Maynard pushes in, securing a crucifix while locking in a kimura. Huerta gamely outlasts the hold, throwing punches with his free arm. Maynard scrambles up and scores another takedown. Less than a minute remains, and Huerta tries to scramble free. Maynard returns to his feet, holding his opponent tight. The final bell sounds, and MMAjunkie.com sees the final frame for Maynard, 10-9, and the fight to "The Bully" as well, 29-28. Gray Maynard def. Roger Huerta via split decision (28-29, 30-27, 30-27).

 

I'm a huge Huerta fan I hope the UFC re-signs him or he joins Coker's org.

NATE DIAZ VS. MELVIN GUILLARD

 

Round 1 - Veteran referee Herb Dean gets the evening's main event underway. Guillard drops Diaz early with a right hand but refuses to follow. Diaz tries to clinch, but Guillard backs away. Guillard misses with an overhand right. Diaz avoids a strike, ducks under and cliches. Diaz earns a trip, though Guillard stands and scores with a sweet toss of his own. Guillard quickly backs away and returns to his feet. Diaz's right eye bleeding as he secures another trip. Guillard sits against the cage. Both patient, and Diaz tries to suck Guillard away from the cage. He can't. Gullard moves back to his feet and backs away. More blood on Diaz's face as he chases Guillard around. Guillard scores with an elbow inside, then a right hand. Diaz asks for more. Diaz misses with a wild left. Guillard ducks into a high kick. Less than a minute remains. Guillard obviously comfortable on his feet, bobbing and weaving. Guillard delivers a kick to the body. Guillard ducks under a Diaz strike, and engages in a toss as time expires. Solid round for Guillard, 10-9.

 

Round 2 - Diaz calls for action. Guillard delivers a thumping kick to the body. Diaz chasing, but he simply can't cathc Guillard. Diaz earns a clinch and pushes Guillard to the cage. There were some really good fights last night.  Thank you for the recap of the Stann / Cantwell fight.  I was wondering about that one.  It doesn't sound like it was as exciting as I would have hoped.  I guess that's what happens when two guys split the first two fights.
