August 13, 2009 (SPORTS WIRE) - The success of former wrestlers in MMA and the rapid popularity growth of MMA present the perfect opportunity for amateur wrestling to expand its current market reach. It also brings the two fan bases together. Many of the future MMA stars are currently wrestling in college and internationally. This is why The Open Mat (TOM) and Team Quest have decided to work together.

?We see a world where an athlete can start their fighting career and still work towards an Olympic or World Medal.? Says Open Mats Vice President Ray Brinzer. The Open Mat will work to promote the Team Quest brand which has deep wrestling connection. Team Quest Owner Heath Sims is excited ?Team Quest believes The Open Mat will increase awareness for its existing professional fighters and also help reach the young fighters who have dreams of developing careers in the sport of MMA.?

Currently, the National Governing body (USA Wrestling) does not see how MMA and world competition can go hand and hand. Team Quest and The Open Mat think that there is a way for an aspiring fighter to fight during the year while still competing internationally or in the Olympics. Joe Warren (Team Quest and Clinch Gear fighter) a decorated Greco Roman wrestler recently won in convincing fashion over a top world class fighter in just his first professional fight. Mr. Warren intends on also making the 2012 Olympic Greco Roman wrestling team.

Team Quest was founded in 2000, and have had fighters ranked among the world?s best, distinguishing themselves in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pride Fighting Championships, RINGS and more.

The Open Mat (www.theopenmat.com) was founded in 2009. The site was created to bring a different perspective to the sport of Amateur Wrestling and to bridge the gap between Mixed Martial Arts and Wrestling. The company plans on growing over the next few months with a variety of services and features.
