The first two years of Griffith senior Chris Bartley's high school wrestling career were rough.

Panthers coach Travis Walls said Bartley didn't win much, but he kept coming back for more. After all, Bartley is accustomed to overcoming adversity and defying the odds.

Bartley was born with his eyes crossed, and he had corrective surgery when he was 10 months old. He can see out of only one eye, but he hasn't allowed his disability to prevent him from becoming one of the Region's top prep wrestlers.

Bartley can't wear glasses when he wrestles, and contacts don't work well for him because he has a strong astigmatism. Therefore, he can't see more than a few feet in front of him while he's on the mat.
