dstruck Posted January 9, 2009 Share Posted January 9, 2009 Jeff wrestlers beat Kentucky No. 1 Trinity Red Devils also take the Warrior Classic By Justin Sokeland jsokeland@courier-journal.com January 9, 2009 Jeffersonville High School's wrestling team defeated Louisville's Trinity, ranked No. 1 in Kentucky, 32-25 in a dual match Tuesday night at Jeffersonville. Winners of contested matches for the Red Devils included Devon Miller (119 pounds), Renaldo Weekly (125), Caleb Visser (135), Darien Tatgenhorst (140), Damon Dryden (145), Alex Bailey (152) and Coty Hendricks (160). "I was very proud of the way our kids responded," Jeff coach Danny Struck said. "This was a great win for our program. Our kids are riding high, and it's nice to see them improving at the right time of the year." Jeff improved to 20-4. Jeffersonville also won the 12-team Warrior Classic at Scottsburg last week. The Red Devils defeated Danville, Greencastle, Chatard, Southwestern and Jennings County during the first day of competition. On the second day, they beat Fort Wayne Concordia, Edgewood, Washington and Scottsburg, then tangled with defending tournament champion Columbus North in the final, beating the Bull Dogs 38-24. Jeff's Tyler Tatgenhorst (189 pounds) and Weekly both went 10-0 and won individual titles in their weight classes. Floyd Central went undefeated in the Valley Super Duals last week in Louisville, improving to 18-5 this season. The Highlanders will compete in the Old Capital Classic at Corydon tomorrow. The Hoosier Hills Conference tournament is scheduled for Jan. 17 at Jeffersonville. The state tournament series will begin Jan. 31. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
