  1. I was thinking it would be a close match after watching Red last weekend and he looked good and not to be bashing him but I hope to see them wrestled again in Big10 and the NCAA . Good luck to both on the rest of the season.

  2. Lee could of been multiple time state champ but freshman year he wanted to measure himself to see exactly what he needed to do to improve. That is why we got the Lee vs Micic match and the junior yr also with Red even though he had been hurt and worked the cardio until cleared by doctors. So it it like comparing apples to oranges and would be a great match to witness.

  3. I really hope to see this match happens and to many it will be a redemption/revenge match for many MD fans. Yes I am a MD fan( and have been a Penn State fan for a very long time) but this match to count as rematch for state finals it would of needed to happen last year. This is now just two wrestlers from the same home state facing off on the next level and it’s one more step in Nicks journey to help him capture a National title. Yes I’m sure there is a little pay back on the way IF it happens. I don’t think it will happen though for whatever reason the coaches come up with or insert a reason. Best of luck to both but I am a Lee fan no matter what.

The MD Classic has had some reshuffling of teams in the past couple of years and this year is no different.  There are 5 new teams with only New Palestine dropping out making it a 19* tean field.  I'll leave the full preview to Hook and Half.  But if anyone has any info on any of the out of state teams, please add in this thread.

*Note: Lawrence Co. Tennessee returns, but only sends one wrestler, as they did last year.  Luke Dezember returns to the classic.  I believe he has roots/family in Union County Kentucky so he's a bit of a lone wolf for his school.  He finished 2nd at 126 last year.

    The new teams are:

    Downers's Grove South (Illinois)
    Nashville Father Ryan (Tennessee)
    Floyd Central
    Indian Creek
    Vincennes Lincoln

    Returning Teams:

    Mater Dei
    Union County (Kentucky)
    Louisville St. Xavier (Kentucky)
    Franklin Community
    Belleville West (Illinois)
    New Albany
    Gibson Southern
    North Posey
    Evansville Memorial
    Tell City
    Louisville Trinity (Kentucky)
    Sullivan
    Mt. Vernon (Posey)
Lawrence County (Tennessee) - see above

I believe Luke Dezember’s dad Mike and Uncle Bob Dezember wrestled for Mater Dei back in the 80’s. If it is who I think it is.

    Navy80-

You are making me recall painful memories...

It was January 2010.  Had the fire marshal showed up, he would have shut it down.  The gym’s capacity is 2200.  With portable bleachers pulled in and the permanent bleachers jam packed, the rumored crowd size was 2800.  The mat was cordoned off by ropes.

reitz had a deep and experienced lineup, very good from their feet and tough on top.

reitz’s crowd nearly matched the size of MD’s.

the panthers flat put it on the wildcats.

with the dual’s outcome no longer in question, two reitz mothers began dancing on the floor.  Miserable was the Wildcat nation.

For his part, castle graduate and Reitz coach Scott Ferguson, it was a watershed moment—as an athlete or coach, he had never beaten MD.

For Reitz, it was a special class.  The panthers sported very good lightweights.  The middle and upper weights were populated by grapplers/footballers.  In the 68 year history, they are one of only four classes to beat MD in football and wrestling in the same year.

For his part, castle graduate and Reitz coach Scott Ferguson, it was a watershed moment—as an athlete or coach, he had never beaten MD.

This part I believe is wrong. I believe he beat Rusty Head when Head was sophomore and Ferguson was a Senior.

Lol nah the old country buffet after our 5th place finish soothed my soul that year ?... but in saying that NC lost 4 times to the hands of EMD from 94-01...and it wasn't fun any of those times I promise lol..But emd beat everybody back then, so I don't dwell on it... the aura of invincibility they had back then was strong.. their fans also were a great weapon too.. you couldn't hear yourself think once they got going.. they def represented to the fullest!

Those days of the fans are a thing of the past at Mater Dei in my opinion. The number of wrestlers have been dropping in the wrestling room and also through their feeder league. Only those who love the sport are following it but the kids aren’t the same either it is a different look for them and it’s sad.

  7. Before someone tells me to follow the link post on how to become an official, I would love to but due to injuries sustained in the military that is an impossible task. Now the officials at Evansville were the worst I have seen in a while. The ref with the #3 was one the the most inconsistent and I believe he cost a few kids from advancing to the next round starting from round one. He would call out of bounds when one foot came close and let others wrestle till the were both on the Ice. I wish I could find my phone because I have three matches he refer that the same situation got different calls. Sorry for putting you out there but you need to be more consistent and hopefully I can gain enough mobility to become an official

I have noticed that the North Regional is in Portage and the South Regional is in Evansville. Those regionals are both on opposite sides on the state but what about the central part? The drive is about 3 hours and 30 minutes eachway for some people. Is their anyway we could get another regional in the central part or bring one of them a little closer

What do you think the schools from the south think about the drive to team state in Ft Wayne? It’s a haul for us but that’s the price we pay to participate in this great sport.

  9. Mater Demi's Mike Goebel and Randy Helfrich! 12 state championships! Mr. Goebel the motivator and Mr. Helfrich technician together they produced some awesome teams and wrestlers.

My mistake thought it said coaching dual mind is not right late night last night

  10. Bethel is a punisher. The Lee/Bethel match wasnt as close as the score indicates. Lee controlled the match from start to finish.

Looked like Lee was controlled this time and it's probably because he knows Bethel can capitalize on any of the slightest off balanced movement due to being over zealous.

  11. My guy Brayton Lee has proven to be bad for peoples health so surgeon general now is issuing warnings to stay away from him !!!!   #PainTrain

    #TheCounty #WeisjahnTrained

    B. Lee is good but B. Jourdan kept it close at semi state and I will add Lee looked relieved after that match ended and I think that was as close to a defeat he had in semi state and state combined. This should be saying Brayton Lee is chasing competition so he is going after Nick Lee or Joe Lee to see if he can maintain his smile or have it turned into a frown. I think the frown would be the outcome though and I don't think either match up will happen good luck to all 3 next season!
