  11. Former Lafayette Jeff wrestler Jonathan Martinez paased away yesterday while working in Pennsylvania. Jonathan was a three starter for the Bronchos and a semi-state quarterfinalist his senior year. He was voted the Most Valubale Wrestler his senior year. Jonathan had great passion for wrestling and was a part of our Broncho Wrestling Club as a volunteer coach after graduation. He will be missed by the Broncho wrestling family. 13. It was a great weekend for Indiana high school wrestling at Wabash College. Our high school wrestlers competed very well with 2nd and 4th place finishes for Team Indiana Gold and Team Indiana Blue. We even had the opportunity to compete against each other. It was a great time watching our tremendous group of underclassmen battle against each other. Indiana Gold did come out on top but not without a hard fought match. I wanted to thank all the high school coaches across the state for your efforts in helping our student/athletes show that they can compete with anyone across the country. You are all doing your part and putting in the extra time or encouraging your kids to get better in the off season. It showed this weekend. Our two additional teams,Team Renegades Gold and Blue, also competed very well. A big thank you to Jeff Schaefer for getting the teams together and the staff of high school coaches who gave their time to coach them. Jeff was also responsible for making us all look good with the gear. Awesome! I would also like to give a thanks to the Wabash College wrestling coaching staff and wrestlers for there efforts over the two days of competition. They got the facilitiy ready, handled the tables during the tournament and cleaned it up as we finished the tournament. Coach Anderson and his staff were great host for the event. We would also like to thank Brute for the great looking workout shirts that they gave to each participant. They look awesome and I encourage you to check them out and order the workout shirt next year. EI Sports can get them for you. A big thank you to Coach Moss of Ben Davis for his efforts in getting our fill-in state wrestlers the opportunity to compete. He did what he could in a very short time to give kids the opportunity to get mat time for Indiana wrestlers and our visitors from other states who couldn't fill their teams. And a big thanks to his beautiful wife for giving her time as the trainer for the event. She was outstanding. Finally, John Cook - he is responsible for keeping this tournament going. His passion for the wrestling community in Indiana is still high. John Cook is responisble for getting Indiana to participate in this event when it was in Battle Creek, Michigan. His son, Jason Cook - a state champion, was in high school. Jason Cook was there this weekend coaching one of the teams. Awesome! I was fortune to be included and have been apart of this adventure eveery year since. Again - what a great bunch of coaches we have in Indiana. GREAT JOB!

  18. nnhs - why don't you talk to your boys at the Ihsaa and see what it's like. Or, as Bob said, make a proposal at the coaches fall clinic. You do attend the clinics and voice your thoughts - RIGHT. It sounds like you got all the answers. Miller, that's Tom Miller. At least I'm not afraid to say who I am.

  23. Jerry Smith, assistant wrestling coach at McCutcheon High School, passed away last night. Coach Smith wrestled at Southwestern High School, later consolidated into McCutcheon High School. Before going to McCutcheon he was an assistant coach at Lafayette Jeff High School. He was a great ambasador for the sport of wrestling and a mentor to young student athletes. He was a great friend and will be missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
