  1. I would think that at this point in the season, a (per the description) small spot of ringworm would be looked past, especially if there was a doctors note stating what it was and that it was not contagious (and not even ringworm). Cover it up, wrap it well and let them wrestle. I could understand if it were an open wound that was oozing and infected. Can you imagine how many wrestlers yesterday had ringworm that went undetected anyway? How often have you seen wrestlers with areas wrapped that were skin issues and they wrestled? There are many other skin conditions that I could see holding a wrestler out for but this case seems like the ref might have went overboard? Could have been much worse than the poster is saying but if not, it seems extreme. I have seen countless skin issues on kids over the years - some that I thought were beyond what I would think would be let go, but yet the kids wrestled. I'm all for skin disease control and all of that and hate it when my kids get something, but it happens and is probably part of every wrestlers history.

So the officials should put the other 100+ wrestlers and themselves at risk of infection to let one kid wrestle?  Covering up a skin condition is not an option and is not allowed.

  2. Maybe not!! I am a Mom first and a wrestling fan second! I just know my son has been to Semi State two years and has come up short both years.his love of the sport keeps him there all day just to watch! To suggest he should not be there sort of got my feathers ruffled!!

Mom, if you're new to the board then you don't know that this post has been coming up every year for at least the last 5 years or so.  I'm pretty sure they mean no disrespect to anyone.

  3. Wow! You should be ashamed! I can not believe you are suggesting that the kids from the smaller schools who loose first round should leave to make room for you bigger schools with better wrestlers!! If a kid makes it to Semi State, it is no small feat and should be allowed to stay as long as they would like! Those kids work their a**** off to get there and I can not believe a grown adult would suggest that any school should keep the buses running just to make room for you! I have changed my mind on the whole wrestling community. I once thought it was a group of coaches that really wanted all kids to succeeded in the sport!

Maybe you just don't understand satire or sarcasm when you see it.

  4. This is a bad call.  You are ruled in bounds until both wrestlers have a supporting point out of bounds.  Kral NEVER is out of bounds during this exchange.  There's enough of Kral in bounds so that he's in criteria to be pinned had their been enough time on the clock.  Tough break for Robinson.  Also, the assistant ref should have been on the other side of the wrestlers and not behind the head referee so he could have a different angle.

  5. Southport was great, Market Square Arena was great and Conseco is a great place.....You could get rid of the Pacers and make Conseco a wrestling venue with huge tournaments every weekend along with Middle School State, Folkstyle State, Freestyle and Greco State and make as much money as the Pacers bring in.....Add in a couple of ping pong tournaments and there you have it....Other than that, the State Fair Grounds, Evansville and Fort Wayne would be great places to have it.....

    Are you serious?

  6. Has the IHSAA changed their bylaws?

The IHSAA used to only allow someone to compete unattached during the season if their own team was idle and their athletic director signed off on it.

Rule 15.1.1 c. ? ?An outstanding student-athlete may participate as an individual during the authorized contest season of a sport, without loss of interschool eligibility provided the following criteria are met:

    1. Complete and forward application form to Commissioner seven (7) days prior to the event.

    2. Requires approval of parent, coach, principal and the Commissioner.

    3. Requires certification by State, National or International organization verifying the student?s qualifications.

    4. Requires prior arrangements to complete academic lessons, assignments, and/or tests.

    5. Requires that the student not miss an Association-sponsored tournament series event or a school sponsored contest for which he/she is eligible. It is the philosophy of this Association that the student owes loyalty to their school and team.

    6. Requires student and parent agreement to not accept, directly or indirectly, any awards, gifts, trips, merchandise, etc., which would violate IHSAA Rule 5 (Amateurism) or Rule 6 (Awards, Prizes, Gifts).?

Rule 15.1.2 a ? ?Participation in organized non-school sports competition during the authorized contest season, including the IHSAA tournament series, in that sport shall cause such students to become ineligible for their school team in that sport for a period not to exceed 365 days as determined by the Commissioner, unless an outstanding student-athlete waiver for said competition is approved by the coach, principal, and the IHSAA office is on file in the principal?s office. A maximum of two waivers may be granted during a contest season.?

You may not miss a school competition to participate in a non-school sponsored competition during the IHSAA authorized contest season.

  7. Anyone that complains about the folkstyle state tournament now probably wasn't around when they started holding them.  It really seems that the ISWA is listening and has made many improvements thoroughout the years.  (Examples: Real Referrees, Full Size Mats, enhanced PA system, matside pairing, splitting up older and younger kids, video of championship matches, award stand, photographer on hand..etc.)

The tournament in the factory was memorable.  As I recall, they lost their venue and really had to scramble to find someplace to hold the event.  For all the negative things you can say about it at least the ISWA found a way to make it happen.

  8. I am a fan of neither team but was in attendance on Saturday.  My opinion:

    1. The stalling call against Fuqua to tie the match w/ 1 sec. left was a horrible call.

    2. The 2nd stalling call in OT was legit.  He was blocking w/ his head and backing out.

    3. The stalling call given to Shrewbury to tie the match w/ less than 5 sec left in the match was a gift and seemed to be a makeup call by the ref since the MD guy did tons of stalling in the 2nd period but was only warned one time.

    4. Many times all MD did on bottom was work to not get turned.  Many times I thought they made no move to get up off bottom..with few or no stalling calls against MD

    5. MD stole this match from CP.  CP was the more agressive team and MD always knew where the out of bounds line was at and I don't believe that they were penalized for stalling nearly as much as they should have been.
