  1. Jeff Reece from Reitz. Kid has uncanny balance and crazy strong plus he's only a sophomore so he has 3 years. My definition of a dark horse is someone that doesn't do all the travel\national wrestling but dominates matches against kids that do. Jeff has that kind of ability but had Trevor Moody and Blake Reuger in front of him last year. However I think that only helped him wrestling two studs like them every day in practice last year. Look for him around 138-145.
  2. Rob Ralph is at Mater Dei now. He was already a very good wrestler at Harrison, now with the coaching staff at MD and quality practice partners he might rise to the next level.
  3. Noah from MD is a stud! He should be around 120-126 depending on how much cutting he does. Kyle Toedrank and Jeff Reese from Reitz will be tough also, both will be sophomore's.
  4. Tyler Ferguson @ 106 he was behind Kuhn. Tanner Bruce @ 113 he was behind Davis. Kyle Todrank @ 132 he was behind Moody and Jeff Reese @ 145 was behind Appell. These are the weights from this year don't know what they'll weight next year. Reitz lost Vanhoook at 126, Moody at 132 and Appell at 145 so should shake out pretty good for them next season.
  5. Chris, you should change the location on trackwrestling also. That would help new kids signing up. Thanks see you Sunday with Reitz Elite.
  6. I agree with you Brandi! Was also proud of Tommy over the weekend even if he beat one of my Reitz wrestlers. As far as the tourney is concerned we wont be back. My 120# wrestler weighed 118.4 and looked half the size of other wrestlers in his bracket. 4 matches in 9 hours is nuts then add in a 3 1/2 hour drive to get home..........not again!
  7. What about Freshmen that can't couldn't crack varsity because of upper classmen in front of them. Reitz has 4 of them. Tyler Ferguson with Kuhn and Davis, Tanner Bruce with Davis and Johns, Kyle Todrank withVanhook and Moody and Jeff Reese with Appell and Reuger. How sick could these boys be after wrestling every day in practice with state placers and qualifiers. All four won city and JV championships this year for Reitz. Should be interesting at Iswa state in the Cadet division.
  8. I can see what your saying about King. He stinks, 33-3 with 25 pins, I mean he lost to the number 1 and the number 2 ranked wrestlers in the state. Only went to over time with the number 2 wrestler Mappes. I don't know why he keeps going! All that is dripping with sarcasm! King is a beast. End of story!
  9. When my son started wrestling it made me so mad that these kids that are clearly bigger than him were wrestling in the wrong weight class. After a while i started to notice how much better my son got wrestling larger kids, so i just started wrestling him up. If he weighed 100 pounds i'd wrestle him at 105. I looked at these small tournaments as preperation for the State and National tourneys. just like weight lifting, if you wanna get bigger lift heavier, if you dont stay light. Kids that wrestle down are only hurting themselves, and for what a $2 medal. Now it makes me laugh when I see it cause the smaller kid got better and the bigger kid just took a step backwards. If i could do one thing I would make a challenge system. Wrestler "A" is a 75 pound novice! Wrestler "B" is in the 75 pound weight class but weighs 82 pounds. Wrestler "A" wants to challenge the weight of wrestler "B". It cost wrestler "A" $20 dollars to challenge. If wrestler "B" comes in over weight he is "DQed" and the $20 is refunded to wrestler "A". However if wrestler "B" is say within 2-3 pounds than the tourney host keeps the $20 and the kids wrestle. This would stop a challenge on every match but also make the honor system more honest! It could only be done on the first match of the day since most kids eat about $50 worth of pizza and candy as the day progresses. And byes would'nt count as the first match, it would have to be an actual match. I know that if i just drove 4 hours to a meet i would want my son to wrestle all day, not take a chance of being 3-4 pounds over and lose a challenge only to turn around and drive 4 hours back home with out ever steping on the mat. Lucky for me (or unlucky ) these days are over untill I have grand kids. And that better be 10 years from now or i'll really be angry. My son is just a freshman and 15 years old. I see now that a few matches to a couple cheaters was the least of my worries. Try and take it with a grain of salt, bigger and better things are ahead. And remember................ "DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF AND THERE IS NO BIG STUFF", you can quote me on that!!!!!!!!
  10. You are able to check who is in what weight class and how many on track wrestling. We did have to adjust 25 brackets, however it would be tough to have 400 kids weigh and get them all bracketed in such a short amount of time. We did use weights from the Princeton tourney the day before ours. We are trying to piggyback off them to draw more entries. A kind of wrestle Princeton, stay the night then wrestle at Reitz. However it is something we will talk about at the next booster meeting. Thank you for your comments and we are glad you had a great tourney. Good luck the rest of the year and hope to see you next year.
  11. We would like to thank everyone for supporting our first tournament in several years. We had three main goals when we considered hosting this tourney. First goal was to start on time. We had a 9:30 posted start time and we began wrestling at 9:28, mission one accomplished! Our second goal was to keep all 8 wrestling surfaces going at all times, other than a few very short breaks I feel we did well in this goal also. Goal three was not run out of food, this one was close but we managed to stay ontop of this issue all day as well. We were hoping for 200 wrestlers and had 378, nearly doubling our expectations. While there were a few snags (mouth pieces and head gear mostly) we ran 378 wrestlers thru in 5 1/2 hours. We have made lists of items to stream line it in the future and after running this one we feel we will be better prepared next year. We would like to hear any comments (constructive critisim included) to improve this event next year. We did decide to limit next years tournament to the first 400 entrys as our gym has limited space and we feel it was near max capacity. Once again all the Reitz coaches, parents and booster club members would like to thank everyone for attending our event and look forward to hosting everyone next year.
  12. Sorry my last post was directed at IU89 and I pasted the wrong quote.
  13. Yeah that's why he sat out the last two weeks of practice and the meet at Carbondale, incase he had to wrestle in a meet against Wright (sarcasm)! Wow your full of yourself. That's probably the plan the whole time, sit two of your best wrestlers so they can't help the team. Ferguson is an evil genius! I promise you if Schnarr could have wrestled he would have!
  14. The previous post was about the 170 weight class. Aaron King was at 170 for Reitz and he pinned all 9 other wrestlers in that weight class. Only 1 made it to the 2nd period and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Forest Park young man. He could very easily been the most outstanding wrestler there had Vanhook not pinned Wedding the way he did at 126!
  15. Aaron King was 9-0 with 9 pins bringing his record to 17-1 with 17 pins.
  16. Reitz beat Trinity 60-18 and looked much better than Yesterday. They have some injurys in the heavy weights so Coach Ferguson has plugged in some Reserves to fill spots. I think they were a little shell shocked yesterday but are feeling more comfortable today. The Vanhook/Wedding match was an eye opener yesterday with Vanhook getting the pin in around :30 seconds. Moody has gone beast mode with 5 pins and only one made it out of the 1st period. The same can be said for Schnarr at 220 with 5 pins in 5 matches.
  17. I didn't think so but it doesn't hurt to ask! Thanks Y2
  18. Are high school wrestlers allowed to go to wrestling camps during Christmas break?
