  1. I would assume it is because Northfield and Southwood have more seniors. The scoring system is a projection of how the teams will be next season. Do you know how many of the Nf and Sw wrestlers in their sectional lineup were seniors? Again I don't know for sure, but would assume that is why they are not projected as highly.
  2. Can anyone help me out with the following information Location Starting Date Practice Time/ Day Price For the following Clubs Indiana Extreme Talamantes RTC's in Northeast Indiana- Bellmont, South Adams, Garrett any other "elite" clubs in Fort Wayne or the surrounding areas. With the performance of CIA, RWA, and Humpries kids at state, and the dominance in recent years by the M-Ville and New Castle semi-states it is pretty obvoius that these clubs which bring the top talent in from around the state/ area are making a difference. I will say that Muncie, and the city schools in Fort Wayne had stronger showings this year, and it appears that Fort Wayne Semi-State is on the rise. What clubs/camps are the Fort Wayne kids, and Mucie kids attending I think if your kids are going to keep up they need to be attending the top off season clubs. Thanks in advance for any info.
  3. Also if you know of a coach that should be on the coaching milestones list please email their information and win totals under the subject of Unite March-Coaching Milestones.
  4. The next issue of Unite should be a very cool one with so much going on around the state. Unite was created to show all of the positive efforts going on with wrestling from all across the state of Indiana. Thus far the issues have been created by asking coaches to submit stories and pictures to us, and then we add them into the issue. The magazine, much like the coaches association is something that is for all of the coaches and really those around the state to use and to be a part of. I would love to see Unite become an even more collaborative effort with stories, ideas, and pictures coming in from all around the state. It is impossible for us to be able to keep track of and report on all of the great efforts that are being made in wrestlin, so I am asking that the readers of Indianamat submit their photos, stories, and ideas to me so that we can use them in the March, as well as future issues of Unite. All you have to do is write me an email to samriesen1@yahoo.com. Put Unite March in the subject line, and attach the picture or document. I ask that the documents be previously spell checked and proofread. If you send a picture please also send in a caption telling who is in the photo. We could really use state finals photos this month, but really any good wrestling photos will do. Finally I want to say that we cannot guarantee that all articles and photos will end up in the issue. The number of stories and pictures we use will depend on the number that we receive. I will also tell you that anything that is negative or that has a noticeable agenda will not be used. Also if you have any ideas or things you would like to see added to the magazine please let me know. Thanks
  5. So the two toughest weights had to be 132 and 152 then correct?
  6. So by that logic wouldn't 152 be loaded then? I will agree that 132 was pretty stout.
  7. With all of the negaitivity posted this season about the new weight classes I really did not notice a drop in the talent, skill, and overall wrestling at the finals. The newer weights seemed to be pretty solid, and it didnt seem to me as though 138 and 145 were overly dominant weight classes. I mean they had good wrestlers just like the rest of the weights, and two of the better champs, but on a whole it seemed as though the new weights worked out pretty well. What are your thoguhts?
  8. Thought I would move this back up to the top incase anyone missed it with all of the action from this past weekend. One thing that stands out as being pretty cool in this issue is the college wrestler profiles. There are alot of them and its pretty cool to read about kids from the past. the Joe Keiffer interview is really interesting too. Also want to thank Coach Struck for all of the help on this issue. He sent me a ton of stuff.
  9. How do the wrestlers who loose in the quaterfinals drop down? Im trying to fill out my pic-ums and dont want to have a 5th 6th place match that cannot happen.
  10. The story that I have always heard was that Talamantes cut because his teammate, Alex Tone (not sure about his first name), couldnt/wouldn't make the cut to 189. Tone was pretty good in his own right, and Anton cut so that Tone could get in the line-up. That's the story I've always heard. Either way Talamantes was pretty darn good, I doubt he would have cut to avoid anybody.
  11. Looking for sugesstions on the best camps for pushing mental toughness. I know that this is what J Rob is really known for, but what are some others that focus on this area of wresling? Also are there some that you feel are even better than J Rob at this? What about wrestling clubs- CIA, Humphries, ECT.
  12. Just curious as to if you find the concept of a multiplier unfair, or if you find the numbers attached to the multiplier to be too much?
  13. If you could email me at smariesen1@yahoo.com or contact me via PM on here that would be great thanks.
  14. The sixth match being added to the day sounds great in theory, but in practice it would possibly add an extra two rounds to 6 ways. Currently there are 6 teams, three mats, and 5 duals that take place at a 6 way. If we add a sixth match to match to the day, that would mean 7 teams, and that each team would have a bye round added into the day. That makes for a pretty long day of wrestling.
  15. Very true, I was just pointing out that the multiplier is based off of the overall sectional not just the top end kids. I dont disagree that you could argue which sectional is tougher, but I didnt make the multiplier, it was based off of statical analysis done by Maligined who I feel has done a good job. In the end we want an accurate representation of the best teams at the team state. With this same system Maligned put in the information from last year if this season had the classed duals and it came out as being accurate.
  16. The multiplier looks at the overall depth of the sectional not just the top end guys, that is where you see the difference at. I think that if you went back and looked at the Carroll sectional you would see that there is a pretty large number of good kids that don't move on due to the fact that there are are a large number of talenented kids thus the multiplier that you see. With that being said I do agree that the Jay County sectional is a tough one to get out of too, but using state qualifiers alone as the stat to say one sectional is tougher than another is really no different than if Biberstien is the highest placing kid at state, and using that to say that Southern Wells is the best overall team in the semistate. While the jay county sectional produced three more state qualifiers than Carroll, the multiplier looks at the couple of hundred kids who are entered at the start of the sectional.
  17. We should change the topic of this thread to "THREE POINT TAKEDOWNS!!!" Then id imagine that we could get some discussion and participation on the survey.
  18. I really think that the additional points on top would make matches more exciting too. It is pretty interesting that there are no proposed changes for bottom scoring. It seems like they are trying to deemphasis it in that regaurd.
  19. He wasnt kidding about some radical changes, the two that stood out to me 1. Two points for the first takedown, three for each additional 2. Two seconds would become a 3 point nearfall, five seconds would become 4 points Dave a couple of quick questions- 1. It asked if the weight class changes where satisfactory, do you think that this may give skewed results in the fact that it really doesnt give any input as to what is or is not satisfactory with the weight classes? I think that many agree with the added upper weights, but think that another middle weight needs to be added in, how does asking if the weights are satisfactory or not give a true understanding of how the coaches feel. 2. There was no question that I can remember about the tape on the head gear, does these mean that this rule is not for discussion 3. I also felt that the review of most of the questions in general was pretty vaugue, some additional information on the changes that were implemented last year would have been helpful. Anyhow interesting some of the things that were on that survey, should get some good discussion going.
  20. Stole this from the GID, just curious as to what other sports the coaches from around the state coach. I am the head wrestling coach, and middle school pole vault coach here at "Busco.
  21. In our defense we were ranked fifth in the class by the coaches for almost the entire season. We also return 13 out of 14 kids from that group. Our sectional and regional are pretty deep, so that helps us too. We wrestled the last half of the year without a solid 220/hwt kid, and our 113 who was servicable, was replaced by a forfiet. In duals and tournaments we placed above several of the teams that are behind us in the standings as well. In everyone else's defense we have wrestled absolutly horribly over the past two weeks, and have not advanced several kids who I felt would still be wrestling on. We lost several close matches, and that is no ones fault but our own. I feel if we had wrestled the way that we are capible of that this would not be an issue that would be being discussed, but we wrestled how we did so it is fair. The goal of this system is to project the top eight teams based on who are coming back, as a team that wrestled pretty well for most of the season, and has 13 out of 14 of its wrestlers returning I feel that we are among the teams that should be a favored to get invited. At the same time we did not get it done at the end of the season when it matters most, and if we are not on the invite list at the end of it all, we can only blame ourselves. By the way if the tie breaker comes down to best beard Eric gets it, if it comes down to hair we would get it. Heck if coaches hair was the final factor we would be looking at a class 3A invite.
  22. Whats your reasoning? Just curious as I have seen a little of both sites, but not much as far as a pay service goes.
  23. Just looking at both sides, and debating which would be a more valuable site to join as a paid subscription. What do you guys think?
  24. It is based off of having an equal number of teams in each class. There is not a specific number, but instead the smallest third of teams in 1A, the next smallest in 2A, and the largest third in 3A. If your looking for how many teams are in each class I believe it is 105, but that number maybe low by 1 or 2.
  25. How do you guys think Snider or Carroll match up with the winner? I think this match should be pretty interesting as well. If match the teams match up right it could be a great finals as well.
