  1. Here is a link to the Team State issue of Unite. It has all the team profiles and pictures, and the results of last years event. The cover also has all of the team logos, which I thought was cool. Anyhow if you want a digital program for Saturday this does the trick. http://issuu.com/buscowrestling/docs/teamstate_unite2014
  2. Lot of talk about the big guys, but haven't heard much about the smaller divisions, what your thoughts. 2A Yorktown seems like the odds on favorite, but alot of people seem real high on New Prairie and North Mont. Leo seems to be flying under the radar even though they are ranked second. What about Twin Lakes, Western, Danville, or Lebanon? 1A seems really wide open to me, i'm real familiar with Busco, Fremont, AC, and South Adams. I would put AC as the favorite out of that group. I don't know much about Bremen or West Central, but I will say that judging by scores they are gonna be right there with the teams from the Fort Wayne Semi-State. As a guy who did the rankings it was hard to differentiate 1-6 for me in the rankings (Lewis Cass included in rankings, but not team state). I know even less about South Putnam, and Clinton Central, but they could be right there as well.

  13. Team State Program Instructions First of all congratulations for being invited to the IHSWCA Team State Finals. Last season it was an outstanding event, and I assume that this season will be the same. We hope to be able to create a high quality online program again for this seasons event. It is our goal to produce a program that is similar to what the IHSAA used to produce so that this event can continue to be seen as the premier team finals event. We will need you to provide the following information. 1. Team Picture 2. Team Logo 3. Team Roster 4. Team Schedule with Results 5. Coaches Picture 6. Team Information- Please fill out and send team information sheet We need to have these items in by next Friday 12-20 (extended until Sunday). If you don’t have pictures available most teams should have someone involved who has a smartphone you can send them in that way as well. If you attended the event last year, we will need any information that is new. IE, new team photo, roster, schedule, or anything else that might have changed. Very Important: Please collect all of these items and send them in one email. Make the subject of the email: (Team Name, Team State) -for example “Churubusco: Team state.” This simple step will save my wife and I literally hours of time. It would be GREATLY appreciated if it could be sent in this way. Any questions contact me on here, call 260-273-0043 or email me at samriesen1@yahoo.com or riesen.sam@sgcs.k12.in.us
  14. So saying that wrestling in an upper weight class is equivalent to earning a participation ribbon, and that that person wouldn't have to wrestle anyone hard is not the same as insinuating that the upper weights are weaker?
  15. First off are you not doing the same thing by stating that wrestlers in the middle to lower weights are somehow superior to those in upper weights? Secondly I was not saying a 113 lbs. kid could beat 195 lbs. kids, I was saying that a good if a good 113 lbs. weighed 195 lbs. I don’t think that they would suddenly walk through the competition at 195 because they were “superior wrestlers” I also believe that a good 220 would be good at wrestling if they weighed 145 too, so in my opinion the weights are fine. So if you agree with my statements, what makes the new weights so horrible? If you disagree, what makes you feel that way?
  16. I have to agree with Y2 on this one. I don’t know why everyone is so down on the upper weights? I agree that a middle weight getting cut wasn't a good thing, but the lighter weights are mainly just for freshmen and sophs, if good freshmen fall in middle to upper weight classes they are often behind an upperclassman the way they would be in most other sports. This makes the kids that wrestled lighter weights and have success early on appear to be superior to the upper weight kids who were JV for a couple of years. In actuality those upper weights who had been JV may be just as talented as the light weight kids. If anything I would argue that we would be better off cutting a lighter weight and adding a middle weight, than cutting a bigger weight to add a middle. If the new weights are "watered down" can you provide an example of an undeserving state champ or qualifier from the last few years? I have seen form my experience that the upper weights can be just as technical as the lighter guys. Our state qualifier last year was a 220. He wrestled 125 his Freshman year, IMO he would have been in contention for state his senior year no matter what weight he was at. I would stand by that statement for all of my upper weights who have made it to semi-state or further. I would also say that had our better lighter guys been an upper weight there would be no guarantee they would have made it any further than they did in the lighter weight classes.

  20. 1. That’s a tough one. Without a tournament like the IHSAA sports it’s tough to say yes or no. We would have to think a great deal about the criteria that would force a team to move up. 2. The teams fell behind MD were up for a final spot. The last two spots in the tournament go to a committee vote. I know that Mishawaka, and Carroll were up for those spots. 3A also had Merriville, and I think Crown Point decline, so that plays a role too.
  21. No, but if a team chooses to bump up a class I think that several state titles helps them to come to that decision. It also is somewhat behind the success factor in the IHSAA team’s sports. Nobody forced MD to go up a class, they chose to. Teams can choose to in other IHSAA sports as well. We (Churubusco) could choose to be 3A as well; it just wouldn’t make any sense for us to do so. It makes sense for MD to do so due to the number of state titles that they have won, and the current state of their program being one of the elite teams in the state.
  22. 1. I do not believe that there is any sort of "success factor" in place like IHSAA events. 2. Mater Dei chose to bump up just like schools can in the IHSAA tournaments. The smallest 3A school was simply moved down. I would say that the division of classes is based on both size, and to even out the competition. MD was technically a 1A team; they would walk through the field. MD has 12 or however many team state titles. They are a 3A team in every aspect besides size.
