  1. No sour grapes, just an opinion. That is what this board is about. My whole point is that all the "whining", "complaining", & arguing with the refs did not and would not have affected the outcome. We (Portage) are proud, but we are realist. We know that we are a rebuilding program. The team goal this year was to be competitive & have a winning season. Team State was not in the picture. We did close the gap, even as Crown Point improved. Last year, Portage only won 2 matches in our regular season match-up. CP got better, they added a bona-fide stud in Jason Tsirtsis. But overall, the Portage has closed the gap a bit. And that was the goal. Besides, this post has nothing to do with the Bulldogs. They are a very good team, and I wish them luck in the state finals. It also is not about the CP coaching staff, I don't blame them for fighting for their guys. It actually is about Refs allowing coaches to overstep their boundries and attempt to influence meets & matches. They (the Refs) should have made a stand, and even that would not have affected the outcome, I guess what I am saying is in this instance it did not matter. But "what if" it was close battle? Even if it was 2 other teams, everything on the line, the winner goes to state. The Refs have to take control. Put yourself in Jacob Lamb's shoes. How would you feel if that was your son or your team?
  2. Just my opinion, but the Ref's lost control of the Portage-Crown point match. We knew that CP would win (it's a given that are way more talented), but they allowed Vlink & Rodriquez to come out on the mat and influence calls in a dual that they were already winning & big. I lost track of how many times the CP coaches were on the mat or at the table complaining. And in the end CP would have still won even if they would have not cried to the officials. I couldn't believe a powerhouse team like that was so "winey" over every little thing. The official's should have taken control. The results would have been the same.
  3. Unsure; but I believe it will be post-poned. Portage cancelled school today!
  4. This would be an awesome post-season meet! Maybe have the proceeds go to charity or start a scholarship fund for deserving wrestlers!
  5. I believe this is the same week as Virginia Beach, NHSCA Nationals! What poor timing.
  6. Out oof the list you gave of schools you are interested in. Portage & Crown Point have the best wretling programs (hands down). Portage is probably more affordable in the housing market, both are good academically but I would give the edge to Crown Point in that catagory. Also Portage (Porter County) has cheaper taxes & lower auto insurance rates. Both are great schools & communities. Portage has an assistant coach that was a 3X all-american @ Oklahoma State. He also was an assistant coach at Indiana University. You should visit the communities & talk to some of the people on this board about them. I live in Portage, I chose to move here after the Marines for the above reasons. Of course Crown Point has changed alot since then. Either way, you can't go wrong. I know my son, Sean would love to have another partner in the room!
  7. Portage 47, Lake Central 17 AT PORTAGE 103 -- Kyle Ayersman (LC) d. Jesse Duque 9-1. 112 -- Bryan Smith (LC) d. Brandon Coppinger. 119 -- Damien Torres (P) d. 8. My son Sean McMurray also attends every chance he can in the off season. Hats off to Coach P and Hawk. Awesome coaches, awesome room & a great group of wrestlers!
  9. Hobart & Merrillville are in the heart of the "Region". Hanover Central is in Cedar Lake. Half of that town goes to Crown Point. All of which is in Lake county. Tradionally the "Region" consist of Lake & Porter counties. All blue collar, steel working communities within a short drive of the Lake Michigan shore & Downtown Chicago. Now saying LaPorte county is in the "Region" can be disputed. But I think everyone from this area would agree that Lake & Porter counties are the "Region"!
  10. I can see the merit. There are many wrestlers who contribute greatly to their teams, schools & communities that do not get recognition because they are not so-called "studs". You can never go wrong with promoting the sport.
  11. I heard Munster dropped out, because they were going to the Al Smith next year!
  12. So you are saying a state placer may not be an All-state wrestler. Sounds controversial! But that's why I like this board. But remember an opinion is exactly that, an opinion. Rankings are cool, stats are nice, but the results speak for themselves!
  13. I think the IHSAA already does this, on the podium @ Conseco!!!!

I have watched Josh Harper wrestle for many years now. Against others, my own son & in the practice room at Vega's & CIA. I did not see the match, but I know that I have never seen him make the same mistake twice. Whatever he did wrong he will correct. He is a very smart wrestler and knows how to win. My money is on him to be a 4Xer. Frankie is awesome and may have the best shot at upsetting Josh. Whatever happens, it's going to be fun to watch!
  15. 103-Ayersman 112-Hawkins 119-Escobedo 125-Tsirtsis 130-(maybe a surprise here, Thornton or Acuna?) 135-Roach 140-Flamme 145-Peronis 152-McMurray 160-Myers 171-Berry 189-Shrewsbury 215-Coleman 285-Travis
  16. Last year it was Crown Point, Portage, Southport & Rensaleer!
  17. The gym! It's actually pretty good place. They hold Sectionals & Regionals there. This year they have the trifecta.
  18. The DAC is Saturday, 01/17/08 @ LaPorte High School. Wrestling starts @ 9 am. eastern.
  19. Congratulations to Cashe on the win! You worked hard for it. But there's no shame in the loss for Josh. Both of these guys are the class of Indiana wrestling. Their futures are set with Purdue & Michigan State. Now they have nothing to loss. Remember the only real thing that matters is the podium under the lights @ Conseco! Good luck to both!

  21. My son Sean played multiple sports until his Freshman year Then he decided that wrestling was his true love. I can't argue with the results. I beleive focusing on wrestling has helped his career. But I think it's a personal choice.
  22. Actually Will was 7-0; Portage forfeited against him. That was one of our JV kids in that spot!
  23. Very tough match. We forfeited 140. The final was Portage 36 - Carmel 27.
  24. Congratulations to the Indians of Portage! Not bad finishing the day with a win over Carmel. Portage went 6-1 for the tournament and had 3 weight class champions. Losing only to Perry Meridian (they were truly the class of the field) and beating several ranked teams. Not to mention that they were short 2 starters (140 & 285). You guys are really building back the tradition. Great Job!!!!!!!!!
  25. After 6 Rnds: Perry - 6-0 Portage -5-1 Carmel - 4-2 New Pal - 4-2 Warren 3-3 B. South - 1-5 N. Mont - 0-6 Portage only loss is to Perry. Still have to wrestle Carmel. Portage undefeated: Coppinger 6-0 Acuna 6-0 McMurray 6-0
