  1. Almost every school (8 of 9) in this secti0nal has already closed school for Wednesday. With some of the school districts receiving 5-8 inches of snow, it is unlikely that the tournament will conclude on Wednesday night. For those of you who suggest that the tournament should have been completed on Monday night- wrestling concluded at 10:18 P.M. by my watch. Had we wrestled the final round, some of the kids would have had to wrestle after midnight on a school night. These kids had been in school all day already. Several of the teams in the sectional must travel more than an hour just to get back to their schools, not to mention travelling home still. I do not believe it was ever an option to allow the kids to miss a majority of the school day to be able to begin in the early afternoon. I know a couple of schools did get out before the end of the day to make the 4 o'clock wiegh-in already. We should not forget that we are doing what is in the best interest of the kids. The adults should not do something for their own convenience when it could wind up costing a wrestler who has been up for close to 17 hours already on the day. As for the team regional, I would hope that the IHSAA will do the right thing by all of these teams and reschedule it for next Tuesday or Wednesday. It would be unfair to any wrestler involved with this to have to wrestle and make weight so many times, especially when some of the schools will not allow the teams to practice if they do not have school. This is a disadvantage to any wrestler still involved in either the team or individual tournament.
  2. There is already a thread about this. Look down about five topics.
  3. South Dearborn has qualified 10 wrestlers for Richmond. Unfortunately, the wins did not come at all the needed times to hang with East Central tonight. It appears they will easily finish ahead tomorrow when the final round is wrestled. Good luck to EC at Seymour on Wednesday. Coach Schwarz and the Trojans would be very deserving to make it to Center Grove this year.
  4. Tyler Clark of South Dearborn was a state qualifier last year at 119 lbs. Tyler Clark of New Haven was a semi-state qualifer last year at 119 lbs. I was hoping they would both make it to Conseco for the possibility of a matchup as a bit of novelty. Unfortunately, that did not occur.
  5. Y2, I double-checked my sent mail and discovered a misspelling in your address. I have resent it. Sorry.
  6. Y2, I e-mailed you the South Dearborn brackets last night in longhand format. Did you recieve them?
  7. Huff is not wrestling this season. Also, the great white buffalo reference is a bit of clever allusion provided by Coach Adams of the Milan "Indians."
  8. Madison W 49-27 Batesville W 43-21 Lawrenceburg W 60-12 Union County W 39-31 Milan W 59-12 Connersville W 31-30 Raider Rumble (Ryle, KY) 5th of 16 Jeff Classic (Jeffersonville) T-4th of 16 Spartan Classic (Connersville) 4th of 30 Conner (KY) Invitational 1st of 7 Franklin County W 60-12
  9. I know that Milan is in three separate conferences. They have a conference for football, another for wrestling, and a third for all the other sports. In fact, they may be in another, because I believe they also have a swim team. I think the wrestling team may only see the teams in their conference during the conference tournament, or at least many of them. Also, they do have to travel a bit for some of their football schedule. However, this is one example of a small school that has made it work to some degree. oldcoach50 (Roy Adams) could probably provide you with more information. Coach Adams is the head coach of their wrestling program, and he would likely be a good resource. Maybe you could send him a private message on here to get more information.
  10. Some great advice has already been given. The thing I would like to reiterate the most is to be a teacher first and foremost. Yes, you can more directly impact an athlete's life by the closer bond a coach has to his athletes, but you have a greater task to teach the many of the importance of your material. I am amazed that some teachers actually cannot tell their students that what is being taught to them in the classroom can apply to the real world. Take time to know the material and explain its uses to your students. Teaching is wonderful, and I love the new challenges it presents each year. (Now, if only I could get someone to grade all of those research papers.) Good luck with college and be certain to put in applications all over the area. Be willing to come in with a yeoman's effort and a willingness to listen to more experienced teachers for great advice. The wrestling room will almost certainly be waiting for your assistance if you get the teaching job.
