Coach Tonte, Franklin Community HS & Coach Schoettle, Perry Meridian HS C.J. Red, Assistant IU Coach The 2022-23 season marks C.J. Red's first on the Indiana Wrestling coaching staff. In year one, Red helped Indiana's program make big strides. The Hoosiers' 8-5 record in 2022-23 was the team's best since 2016-17, that included three Big Ten wins and three ranked victories, as well. Red provided valuable experience of wrestling at the highest stage and in recent time, after just finishing his collegiate career in March 2022. He worked closely with Indiana's light and middleweights and helped push Graham Rooks (149 lbs.) to have the best season for an Indiana wrestler since 2017. Rooks went 29-11 and reached the Round of 12 at his third career NCAA Championships. This was the furthest an Indiana Wrestler had gone in the tournament since 2017 when Nate Jackson got eighth place at 184 lbs. Rooks also finished in fifth place at the Big Ten Championships. Red, an Indiana native, returns to his home state after completing his highly successful collegiate wrestling career at Nebraska this past spring. At Nebraska, Red was a standout in the lineup at 141 lbs. throughout his entire career from 2016-2022. Red was a three-time NCAA All-American ––– earning sixth place at the 2021 NCAA Championships, as well as eighth place in 2019 and seventh place in 2018. In total, he was a five-time NCAA Championships qualifier from 2018-2022. Additionally, Red earned multiple podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships over the years. He finished in second place in 2019, third in 2020, fourth in 2021 and seventh place in 2018. For his Cornhusker career, Red had a 98-46 overall record and a 39-20 dual record. He won 22 bouts via fall with five tech falls and nine major decisions to his name. The move to the Indiana coaching staff will be Red’s first coaching role in his professional career. Prior to competing at Nebraska, Red had a legendary high school wrestling career. He attended New Palestine High School where he wrestled for coach Chad Red Sr. Red went 183-0 in his prep days, including being a four-time state champion. He was deemed the top 132-pounder in the country according to the Asics FloRankings in the class of 2016. He won the 2015 FloNationals crown, was the 2014 Super 32 champion and 2014 Fargo Junior Cadet Nationals champion, all at 126-lbs.

  13. All good. I just wanted voters to know what the situation is. As several people said being at full strength is a rare occasion in our sport.
  14. I would think Sisson is good at jumping rope. Just my guess. He is a pretty damn good coach I know that. And I would agree that expanding to 12 teams is logical. I mean, 5 of the top 8 teams in the rankings are not in the tournament. That makes it look not as desirable. On the other hand, I’m wondering where TripleB got his info. Cathedrals line up at Calumet would have resulted in the same score as their dual. And does tripleB have info I don’t about our own program, because against Cathedral we didn’t have 2 regional qualifiers in our line up who were 21-9 and 22-11 last year as well as a varsity wrestler who was 15-15 last year. Not sure if they make a difference or not but def not the full strength we had hoped for. I don’t know where we fit in. There are so many good teams but I do hope that people get their stats correct. I have been doing this a long time and very rarely have I had a team at full strength to where I anticipated it to be.
  15. For sure, As I said Joe, the weight class is deep. Lots of respect towards New Pal. I will say as good as Roncalli is, looking at common opponent scores maybe it’s a little more equal than people think. For example Roncalli beat Fishers 43-36. Portage beat Fishers 48-30. We beat portage 42-20. looking at Commons it could translate to us having a similar score with Roncalli that New Pal had. By no means am I saying we are better than Roncalli, New Pal or any of the teams we are discussing. I’m just saying from those scores it’s another reason for tipping in our favor to get voted in. Again, mush respect for all those programs. Pretty cool to be mentioned in with all these great 3A programs. I know most of these coaches personally at the top 3A schools and they do a hell of a job.
  16. I would think Franklin sealed the deal with common opponent victory over Cathedral. Greenfield and Floyd Central both lost to Cathedral. Franklin beat Cathedral. As far back as I can remember common opponents is a number one criteria. And to put icing on the top also beat number three Ranked returning state champs Mishawaka. On a side note Franklin lost to Perry and Columbus East in tough hard fought matches giving up only two falls total in both duals. Columbus East beat Greenfield and Carmel scoring as many points in both of those duals as they did against Franklin. All teams seem to be great competition. What a deep class 3A has this year. You could go about 14 deep and still have some very good comp. Just one coaches insight. But I hope common opponent is still the major factor as well as strength of schedule. We have suffered points the last few years due to the incredible task of trying to slide thru the Mooresville regional with young athletes. Good luck to all the rest of season. We hope we have the opportunity to showcase our mix of upperclassmen and alot of youth.
  17. 2x NCJAA 2018 graduate at Warren central and he will be running RTC Wednesday enter door 21 6 pm to 7:15 pm 2x NCJAA national qualifier Aaron Taylor
